You're crazy if you don't like the acoustic version. I like this song even more after listening to this. I feel like it's much deeper, the lyrics have a more profound effect.
I love how he weares the same blouse as in the Letterman gig. Some famous guys never wear the same clothes two times and even see it as a shameful thing, but Brian is just down to earth with it.
This song and this version of it just gets me so damn deep. I know a lot of people don't understand why, but it's definitely one of the saddest songs I have ever had a pleasure of listening.
I get it. This particular version of this song is one of my favorite songs of all time. It is so sad and seems to just speak right to the sadness in all of us. It's just brilliantly done.
KarD SP Yeah, I can't remember on which video he said it, but he told the interviewer that it's not over, they're just taking a break to pursue personal interests.
Well, the moon I know, in the town I live, is steady as she waits. It seems as though she yearns for me and calls me by my name. Sometimes she says come to me, kiss me while it's late. And other nights she's just hanging with the stars. And I've seen her waiting from all her mistakes And what if he never comes when you call? And, "hey, it's alright," she says, "Once upon a time I lived a perfect night. Hey, in another life," she says, "In a dream of mine from a thousand years ago." "Don't look back," I heard a voice, in velvet I couldn't see. The pictures then were black and white, and the details were in between. I heard about a woman once, who did everything ever asked of her. She died last week and her last words were, "it wasn't worth it." And I've seen her patience through all her mistakes And who's gonna save you now? And, "hey, it's alright," she says, "Once upon a time I lived a perfect night. Hey, in another life," she says, "In a dream of mine from a thousand years ago." "Hey, it's alright," she says, "Once upon a time I lived a perfect night. Hey, in another life," she says, "In a dream of mine from a thousand years ago." "Hey, it's alright," she says. "Hey, in another life," she says. Way back when, when we became friends, I was you, you were my defense. And quiet was the night. You showed me that bridge, and it brought you home. You told me about it and I never let it go, And I guess I might've been doing the same. Anyhow, quiet was the night.
A solid gaslight fan here but I think get hurt suffered from they way it was produced. I'm Not technically minded enough to explain further but I'm sure many will understand me. But every live performance I went to, of any of the get hurt songs - they sounded amazing. I'd walk away thinking yeah I actually do love that album as much as the rest.. Until I heard it. Performances like this prove it for me. It wasn't the songs. It wasn't the playing. It was just something in the way the album versions came together. The live version of have mercy will always be one of my Favs
Matty Jones I think get hurt will just be one of those albums that the fans either love or they’re just neutral with. Some songs on that record are dynamite - this in particular is one of my favourite gaslight songs. I like to think in 10 or 20 years time that get hurt will just be that gaslight record that’s never first in line but the tracks reach people on different levels when people dive in. Get Hurt isn’t my favoured gaslight record but when I play it through there’s so much that makes me want more from that period of the band. I suppose if you wanted to look even deeper the content could perhaps reflect more on the lyrics/Brian’s personal life and then in turn how the listener perceives it.
Brian was always gonna end up doing something acoustic, whether it be The Horrible Crowes (not strictly acoustic but was closer to it than The GSA stuff.) Reason is imo is because he's always written on acoustic but also (imo) he's one of those rare artists that the songwriting is good enough to stand alone..with just an acoustic and his soul bearing lyrics/singing..he leaves it all out there all the time. I don't know if you've heard of Justin Townes Earle (sadly passed away aged 37 last year) but if you like Fallon, I urge you to check out his song 'Moving on' but listen to the live KEXP version..it blows the pants off the album version, because like Brian the honesty/vulnerability in his writing shines through when it's just them and a guitar. (JTE somehow makes it sounds like two guitars..just '3 chords and the truth' if done well, will never get old.) Hope you get to check it out. All the best from Ireland 🇮🇪
I think it's just cause it seems so different and somber. The electric version sounds way more upbeat. This has a very somber tone. I like it personally.

Everyone has their opinions, I like this better than the original, and the original was awesome.

+Babitzo omg thank you!
KarD SP Hah made me very happy also!
This is hy far the very best recording of this song. Live or not.
This certainly changes the mood of the original. I think it's still good.

Matty Jones unfortunately even more so for brians solo album.
THE RZA yeah massively. There's a live performance of him And the crowes on here now. It's incredible.

Always that the mix on that album was horrible, really sucks because it has some amazing songs
No such thing as bad Gaslight Anthem
My heart understands... :)
I love this song so much.
This version specifically. I just recently listened to the original...not the same impact at all.

Anybody have any idea how Brian is playing the chords? Is he in a different tuning or something?
I'm not 100% sure about this song specifically, but they usually tune their guitars to D standard
Ricky Hamilton I heard them say in an interview this year actually that they started tuning in standard E now
the new songs are all in standard tuning
Drop d always
That bed hair lol
He was brilliant that night, dont care bout the hair ;)
do yourself a huge favor DO NOT BUY USED ITEMS FROM GUITAR CENTER ON LINE,you will be lucky to get what you ordered
you're lost
doug bishop I really like this comment.
I love Gaslight and Brian with all my heart, but some of their songs just don't sound that great in mellow acoustic versions.
I think it's just cause it seems so different and somber. The electric version sounds way more upbeat. This has a very somber tone. I like it personally.
"None of that was worth it" is a horrible conclusion. But trying to make worth of life, through music, is a fantastic effort...
"did everything ever asked of her" is what's not worth it. You have to take care of yourself too, not just others.
I can't wait to see these guys lie next week
I'm too excited!
ㅔ
I absolutely love these guys, but this is not a good performance. They are both out of key quite a bit
