Finally, a balanced review. So many other reviewers bash this car without really comparing it to other AWD EVs. Even an ICE AWD vehicle will have some MPG tradeoffs vs a FWD vehicle. I spend a lot of time on unpaved back country roads with deep ruts and mud, as well as mountain roads with snow and ice. Having decent AWD capability takes much more than slapping second motor on a car that wasn't designed for AWD. The Solterra X-mode works well, and I actually like the Toyota software interface and i-sight system better than the Subaru implementation on our Legacy. The dashboard design was my biggest gripe when we first saw the car, but now that I've driven it for a while I actually think its smarter to have the gauge cluster above the steering wheel. Having the wheel lower allows me to rest my hands in my lap at 8/4 and reduces fatigue on long trips. We covered the piano black interior with a vinyl wrap to protect from scratches and hide fingerprints. The range and charging issues have been a bit overblown, and will be less of a concern as the charging infrastructure improves. Like most EV owners, 90% of our charging is done at home.
I must say I like that car. Subaru for me has always been a bit niche, exotic and dare i say it, even special. Shame about the range, although I can't remember you getting specific on the issue. That being said, you're some man for squeezing a HUGE amount of info into your videos, keep it up.
Dont know where I stand on this one. Ifit has the suburu quality it will be a good car. Hatchback also a plus. I'd take it over the toyota BZ4X. The efficiancy would annoy me over time, but is is a AWD so can't expect it to be as good as a 2WD. Priced around many other availble EV's so it has plenty of competition. Good Review. Thanks DES
I agree that it's a much better looking car that the BZ4X. The spec in the Subaru is far superior. It's also one of the few EVs with roof rails. Shame it doesn't have the same extended warranty option as the Toyota. Great practical review
Tom Ford over on Electrifying made a great point in his review, if Toyota are giving it, it's the same battery then it should be good too in the Subaru.
It doesn't really have roof rails, there are only fixed mounting points for crossbars. The faux "rails" are just to spread the load so you can use a roof tent without it caving in the ceiling.
The car that takes 4hrs to charge to 100% being as it's just a Toy-ota with the badge replaced. Yes it does take 4hrs as tested by Out of Spec in the US on a DC fast charger most of that 4hr time is from 80-100%. Poor attempt by Toyota.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland But how can they build a car particularly Toyota and not include a glove box. That blew me away when you said that, I hadn't realised it didn't have one. Not a long distance road tripper that's for sure.
Looks way to much of a copy to the bz4x, from to outside to the inside no imagination. even the stopid location of the dashscreen was taken over. For me it was in the way on the toyota so cant imagin this being anny better. Then the manr disadvantige its price... its in the same ballpark as its know brand competitors but in no way as of competive as the best selling brand

Great to hear from an owner! Thanks. I try to be balanced in all my reviews. I really appreciate your comment.
Vinyl wrap is the only way.
Great review as always Derek, Very good comprehensive review 😁

Thanks, range mid to low 300km. 21.6kWh per 100km
And thanks for the comment. Hopefully not too data heavy

Looks very capable if not efficient. A decent 1st attempt
I think so too
full review of smart #1 please 😁
Thanks for the request
Hi! One question. Did you fart on minute 14:20?
🤣🤣🤣 no. Just editing not as smooth as I'd like

1st attempt and hoping the next version will be better in very way. Home charging for most so it would suit some

The Soltera has been panned by testers from other channels.
Thanks for the comment. I talked about the pros and the cons

Thanks for the comment, I think it would be very competitive vs the ID.4 AWD GTX and a lot cheaper!
Subaru i Toyota made EV in Beta stage :) it is pure joke
Thanks for the comment. A 1st attempt but not a bad one
Its crap mate
Ah now, it's not too bad
