  • FIRST DRIVE: The Solterra is here and Subaru has worked again with Toyota to create this electric SUV. The Solterra is the sibling to the Toyota bZ4x and is meant to competitor with the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mach-E and VW ID.4. On the outside you will find many specific Subaru touches like the grill, wheels, and flat black cladding. On the inside is the largest infotainment screen on any Subaru. Powering the Solterra are (2) electrtic motors that come standard. Is the 2023 Subaru Solterra a better SUV than aToyota bZ4x for the PRICE?

I'm 98% positive they accidentally mixed up the names for each brand. BZ4X defo sounds like a Subaru name, and Solterra is perfectly aligned with Toyota... Am I right?

I'm a tad confused about the "is it better than the BZ4X". It's the exact same vehicle, made with slight tweaks so it could be released under another brand. Both the Solterra and BZ4X are literally the same exact machine. As far as I know, both versions are done by Toyota. Subaru is way behind times and is being saved by Toyota here (which has a lot of shares in Subaru), by releasing a battery powered vehicle. So, if you like this car, pick your best color and that's about it.

I’ve seen all the controversy surrounding both them. I feel like this is a more normal ev. The competition is packing in horsepower going for a performance feel. The main killer for me is the range like if I’m paying 52k for an ev it only having a range of 220 miles is not enough. For that much money you could buy a Tesla model 3 long range that has 334 miles of range trade off being not being able to off road.

I have watched every TH-cam review of the new Solterra out there, and I have to tell you that it is such a breath of fresh air for me to watch yours, which is so much more detailed and precise. It is obvious you are very knowledgable, and after watching this review I immediately hit the subscribe button! So, about this new EV... I absolutely LOVE it. I think the styling is superior to that of Toyota's sister EV, and there is no match as far as capability. Yes, the Subaru version is more expensive, but look at all that is included, which in my mind makes it a better value over the BZ4X for the money. Of course, I'm a Subaru owner and fan, so I may be a bit biased. I loved my 2012 Forester SUV, I love my current Subaru, which is a fully loaded 2017 Legacy 6-cylinder, and I am planning on trading in my Legacy sometime next year for a new Solterra Touring EV. Can't wait to drive this amazing new model from Subaru!

Which means it a special vehicle for Subaru, with 2 electric motors providing *215-hp* and a *0-60* *in* *6.1* *seconds* *From* *an* *fully* *electric* *vehicle* (now that's sad Subaru 💀).
Plus it haves AWD, 8.3 inches of Ground Clearance, "X-MODE and Hill Ascent/Descent Assist", "StarDrive Zero-Emissions All-Electric Drivetrain", "EyeSight Driver Assist Technology," Automatic Climate Control","Blind-Spot Monitoring". Basically the basics.

Idk youd be surprised what Ive seen with regular people getting into cars they have no business getting. But here at least they get a 7,500 tax credit, and electricity is cheap. I have solar, if I had this vehicle I would pay maybe 50 bucks a month to charge it for 900 mile trip. I don’t want to think about how much that would cost me for my current Subaru

I was waiting for this vehicle since I heard about it. Great review by the way. The vehicle looks great, but it needs some improvements; the first one RANGE, it should be close to 300 miles; 222 miles for the Touring is too low in my opinion. In a long trip, range anxiety would be a factor. Inside of the car, the glove compartment shouldn’t have cloth. The console is way too small; the open space underneath it is not too useful; instead of doing that, they should’ve thought in making the console more useful. Too bad it doesn’t have a frunk. The car looks good, but I know SUBARU CAN DO BETTER. I am not 100% sold with this version; after all is a 51K car.

Maximum range of all the ev's is estimated at under 100 km/h speeds. They are good only for city driving. Cold temperature and 120-130km/h speed are range killers not to mention towing a trailer. New diesel engines are very close with fuel efficiency to to the evs at highway speed.

Solterra is a rebadge Bz4x. AWD with dual motor on Toyota is slightly cheaper than the Subuaru equivalent.
