It's pathetic because all of it is dysfunctional. Also, a mother who pours her whole world into her son in a pseudo-sexual codependent relationship is also another psychological trope/archetype. The weird thing in this case is that the husband/father is still there. This means that the husband/father is one of those brow beaten, zero balls type that survives through day to day in order to keep the peace due to a shrew/bully of a wife. The pathetic thing is that these people should have gone to therapy and dealt with their demons before ever raising another generation of traumatized/useless adults, and they are the same ones who comment on childless peers being selfish.
