I think the movies do a good enough job of showing that Sarah truly loved Kyle vs it being a one night stand. At the end of T1, she says into the tape "In the few hours we had together, we loved a life time." In T2, John says that Sarah still cries about Kyle sometimes and that all her other relationships have just been so John can learn military tactics.
Edit: Forgot to mention I meant they do a good job without this scene

It represends of how strong their relationship is. Even years after Kyle died, she's still loves him.

i believe it and for the same reason Nuclear war. our society on earth detaching from companionship and community and friendship all so youndont have to feel uncomfortable one second
well our serotonin eventually stops working and we become reclusive and dopamine the selfish survival neurotransmitter becomes overly dominant
and without serotonin to satisfy we chase dopamines deminishing returns until we are all so unhappy and hate ourselves so much in a generation or 2 or 3 SOMEONE will say fuck it and Push the BUTTON!
Idk i say we are all dead by 2200. And the Bible was wrong evil has more power technically because dopamine is the survival mechanism selected for in evolution and thats what makes us evil/selfish and always assume the worst to survive and without serotonin to manipulate dopamine to not have a runaway effect and therefore make you accept yourself, you hate yourself and therefore everyone else.
Dopamine is motivation serotonin is satisfaction and added abstraction to reality. so technically evil has more motivation and more power and more control if we stop being social because that is what keeps the serotonin pathways connected.

I love this scene because it shows Sarah's vulnerabilities and how alone and traumatised she is. My opinion is that when you want to create a "strong female character" or something like that, you first have to create a character, then make them female (or black, or gay, or whatever).
You wouldn't create a painting by first painting up a pretty picture into the frame, then slapping a canvas ontop of it. Sure, the paint may soak through the blank canvas and show the picture, but it's gonna be offputting and ugly.

Kyle Reese is Sarah's Guardian Angel, he will never leave her side, warning her of incoming danger and a forthcoming dark future. This scene is a beautiful representation of their relationship and the core of Sarah's character. The scene ends before the infamous nuclear holocaust scene, leaving it to be shown fully later in the movie, as the scene represents Sarah's worst fear and paranoid mental state. If they used the alternate Old Sarah ending, this scene will mirror it as well, representing her healing from the fear that haunted her whole life, hence completing her character arc.

The delivery of that line always gave me chills especially as we see Kyle Reese walking away for the last time in the Terminator universe. I agree with everyone here, this scene should have been kept in because I feel Sarah Connor was really put through the ringer being at the mental hospital and this gave her some sliver of hope when she was enduring abuse and ridicule for things that she knew were true, I also feel that there’s a good payoff with the nuclear nightmare she has here and then later on in the film.

Actually, I bet I know more about words like "warrior" then anyone you've ever met in your entire life. I can crush you like a paper cup, stupid, and you're about to see that.
First of all, you made a false assumption that I had some political bias in what I said. That's DEAD wrong. I have no allegiance whatsoever ot SJW-thinking, I actually understand things logically, including every thing you tried to bring up.
What makes someone effective as a fighter is NOT their size or strength, but primarily their WILLINGNESS to engage in conflict. This is because even in defeat, you can inflict permanent damage on an enemy. So even the largest and strongest person or animal has to avoid enemies who will fight back viciously. They'll win that conflict, but the next one they will likely lose. This is how people hunt Honey Badgers, which can kill a dog in any one-on-one conflict. They train dogs to attack it as viciously as possible, then just one crazy dog after another into their burrow, the badger gets exhausted very quickly and loses. This is why countries like Japan value "fighting spirit" over all else, and that's what keeps them safe.
This is what makes someone a "warrior." The fighting spirit matters above all else, and is what keeps peace among people, nations or animals of different sizes and strengths. So right off the bat we can see that you don't know s**t.
Now, in this particular scene, what makes it NOT beautiful is that it negates Sarah's character arc. Do you know what that is, stupid? :) It shows someone changing or growing from their experiences in a story, which triggers the release of a pleasure chemical (serotonin) in our brains, which rewards us for learning and makes us want to reward and help other people to learn. This drains when we see that she's the same old scared and whiny girl at heart.
It also shifts Sarah's status to a beta character. She loses her agency. She's not making decisions, which lowers our INTEREST in her. This triggers another pleasure chemical in our brains, (dopamine) which organizes our social groups and causes us to watch and learn from the most capable people in our village. When she begs Reese for help, she shifts that natural attention to Reese, and when he walks out, our dopamine level toward her drops along with him.
Do you want me to keep going? I'm halfway through the first of two 400-page books I'm writing on these topics (200 pages in plus a glossary with over 100 uniquely purposed terms) on these. I can bury you like a dog's turd.

There is a deleted scene in T1(that should not have been deleted!!) where Kyle breaks down and Sarah was able to lift him back up with the same exact message he used to bring her back up here. "There is no fate but what fate we make ourselves". They work in parallel together and it's a crime both scenes were taken out of their respective movie. Both scenes further their bond and remind the viewers the Terminator franchise(the first 2) was a love story on top of everything else.

I used to watch this version growing up not knowing it was deleted. These are my thoughts.
IF it really does disrupt the pacing it's very minimal and is hardly noticable. The same goes with the deleted chip switch scene.
It's permissable because there were two dream sequences in T1, at least one dream and one flashback, neither of which were necessary to the plot. BUT they added so much to the character of Kyle Reese and to the mythology of John Connor. And I personally love anything that adds to character. Added character adds to the characters' world.
This scene reminds us that the Sarah we're thrust into being with in T2 is not the same Sarah from T1. Kyle is acknowledging the change she has gone through since the last film and it shows that she feels left alone to raise and protect John being equipped only with everything Kyle taught her, which are the things that transformed her. This scene speaks to me as Kyle passing the torch (the mission) on to Sarah. But the nuclear blast reveals her fears, her uncertainty of the future and her ability to accomplish the mission.
And lastly....of course I want to see Kyle Reese (Michael Beihn) again. Why wouldn't I?

I grew up watching Terminator 2, this scene is extremely emotional man, jesus. It hurts watching this. Movies are so fucking powerful and movies from the 90s have an overwhelming authentic feel. Movies made now generally lack it, of course exceptions are made but in my opinion the 1990s was the pinnacle of movie making. So not only is this a depressing scene its a depressing thought knowing this era of film is over.

I just love Michael Biehn and I love Kyle Reese and really wish he was in more Terminator stories, with Biehn of course, not Jae Courtney. I just love this scene because I feel like that this scene shows that he will always be with her and he gives her the strength to fight on. I actually got to meet Michael Biehn, he came to my little state and county. He was so nice, the reason the line took so long, was because he took the time to converse with each of his fans.
