Jared Johnson actually he should be a a manipulative sociopath, because you know, that was Gaston Leroux’s intent. But society is messed up and people think a guy who kidnaps and murders people is sexy and because he had a hard childhood it’s an excuse to abuse others 🤷♀️
one thing I like better in the 25, Sierra gave him the ring, balling, and heads up stairs slowly. she then turns around, crying and Ramin nods his head , his way of letting her go and live a normal life. its so gorgeous.

SongRainbows but Christine doesn't love the phantom in a romantic way. Gina is portraying how Christine is in the original book. Christine loves the phantom as a friend or mentor not a boyfriend.

It is clear that Christine respects him as a mentor, fears him as he is a murderous "ghost", but also feels pit for him, as well as her appreciation for all what he taught her through her life... I sometimes feel that Erik might see Christine as a somewhat resembling figure of what his mother could've been had she not been so awful... but idk, maybe that's just me

He also stated that he would play it differently if he played it at 30, 35, 45, 50 ect so it would be different because of the age. Obviously a 50 year old guy is not going to run around the stage like a 28 year old like he was here. I think it was a brilliant decision and gave the audience a new perspective on the character and a fresh feel to the musical, new life!

i cry so much during phantom its literally amazing and beautiful in every way. I love how at the end of point of no return hes holding christine just before she uncovers him, it makes the scene more intimate and conveys his feelings for her more powerfully.
+Rachel Ramin is a brute Phantom. What's the point of saying "You try my patience" when he was not patient at all from the beginning. I'll choose Raoul over him here. Check Matthew Cammelle, the rare patient Phantom, he made Christine (and the viewers) really torn between Erik and Raoul.

I love this version of Music of the Night. Ramin doesn’t touch her. He reminds me of a teenage boy bringing his girlfriend over for the first time, kind of shying away, and watching her interact with his room. It really plays into the phantoms emotional immaturity, and into the fact he’s a little socially delayed when it comes to these things. I also really liked the little detail of Christine leaning in for a kiss, and him pulling away, kind of embarrassed and skittish.
Ramin's performance and singing seems to have "matured" more fully by the time he does the role for the 25th anniversary performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
This unhinged performance is quite amazing...I'm a psych nurse so from that perspective it's heart wrenching. But I do like the more gentle version of the 25th anniversary too. His voice....always spectacular.
Thanks so much for uploading! Ramin is my second favorite Phantom (after Michael) and Gina my favorite Christine, but I've never seen them together, so this is great! Really interesting to see how Ramin's characterization of the Phantom evolved over the years.

Gina’s “angel of music” in the final lair always gets me, it’s so full of pain. It’s so good to see Ramin and her together. Might be one of my favourite casts
I love Ramin's Phantom. I first watched him in the 25th, and I was kind of upset because the Phantom is supposed to be insane, and evil and scary, but have a softer side. In the 25th I felt, not scared, but sad. I felt sad for him through the whole thing. In this one, though, he scared me, and I loved it, because I feel that's how the Phantom should be, mostly, anyways.
WOAH. The Phantom in this version is very violent in how he acts. In most of the shows I've seen, the Phantom has been mostly gentle. This is quite an interesting change .-.
OnyxTheRebel I think it's realistic. Erik has almost no experience in social communication and zero experience in affairs of romance. He's been treated as a monster and so acts like one, although I can definitely see some humanity in him.

After seeing 25th Anniversary a few weeks ago, I fell in love with Ramin and have not been able to stop watching videos of him since. I find it super interesting to watch his different performances as the Phantom and how he has evolved into the character.
There is something about being in your element, on a stage you are comfortable with. his music of the night here absolutely blew me away. [ And I LOVE the 25th recording! ] The electricity and honesty in his movements and voice are....completely overwhelming.

I haven’t become familiar with Ramin Karimloo until I first saw the 25th anniversary spectacular on PBS a few years ago, and I’ve heard more of his other performances since then. This the first time I’ve watched him play this part before he did the live show. I can hear how his voice has matured and grown since then between when this show was done, and the 25th anniv. Spec.

One of my favourite little moments in Phantom is in the last scene. It comes off better in the 25th, it’s when Erik is yelling to leave and never to tell, ‘of this Angel in Hell’ just that line alone gives me chills.
This is by far my favorite cast. Ramin is always indescribably amazing. Simon Bailey is great and for a tiny second here and there, I like his character. And then there’s Gina Beck. She really took Christine and made her own. I just feel like Christine had so much more of a personality. Especially in the final lair where you could see her breaking point. Like Damn

I think he was wayyyyy too over the top back then. Did you hear him screaming DAMN YOU directly into Gina's ear? I'm kinda afraid he will explode at any minute on stage. He's miles better in 25 AC because he finally finds the balance between his strong emotion and overall enjoyable level of his performance from the audiences' perspective.

25th anniversary was actually my first time seeing Phantom of the Opera so for me Ramin's singing sounds the most "correct" in my head. Listening to Ramin singing in this video versus the 25th anniversary is really different. I love the improvement of his singing because his vocals become stronger and less shaky over time.
Everytime I watch this I cannot help but awkwardly laugh at how crazy Ramin is and how terrified Gina seems - I love it! Like in 'Down Once More' when he is practically in her face and in the Final Lair where lobs the dummy from his chair. It is so different from his interpretation for the 25th. I perfer the less 'shouty' and more sexy Ramin in the 25th, but this is brilliant.

There’s so many things happened on POTO stage. Ramin fell once when running after Christine for the snatched mask, but managed to sing continuously - I think whilst he was playing the Phantom with Gina. Sierra fell once at Vegas, she literally broke her tooth and yet managed to sing that first line at the Final Lair scene - much shock to the Phantom because he saw everything but she said at least it was there were no more scene for her to smile! 😂
Ya know, I'm just going to casually scream my head off at you, then tell you that I am going to keep you forever, and then fall on the floor. And then to add to it, I am going to army crawl on the floor toward you and expect you to act like you aren't afraid of me, because this definitely happens everyday and is totally normal. I have a theory about this video. I think the person who recorded it knows The Noodle, because they knew to record it. Or possibly they’re an uber uber fan and saw him do it and went back to record it quite soon after. Because there are a lot of unorthodox acting and music choices in this, and I haven’t seen any other videos of Ramin (or anyone else) doing it this way. I once heard Hal Prince and ALW would occasionally drop in on productions and brush things up to keep them consistent. I don’t know if that’s true but from the unique performance here, I can believe it. Examples of what I mean: The start of Christine’s cadenza, Ramin shaking his head like he can’t believe his ears. The incredibly slow DJT intro to MotN, the huge pauses where the orchestra is clearly following him, not rushing him even though he pauses at least twice as long as anyone else between “my music......my music......Nighttime”. The way he is clearly showing the Phantom trying to think how to explain this to her. The effing EPIC perfection where he takes a breath to sing “helpless to resist the notes I write,” which was cut from the song, and Ramin turns this into the Phantom reconsidering his approach and adjusting. The reaction he has to “soar,” where he is clearly thinking “holy shit, that worked! Oh my God! Okay, don’t screw this up, keep going, don’t screw this up...” Etc. There are touches in the Final Lair, too-I like his “I had rather hoped that you would come” to himself, under his breath, or as playwrights would say, “[aside]”, and “and now my wish comes true! You have truly Made My Night.” There are bits where sometimes it feels slowed down too far, but I’m watching this on video after knowing the show for 35 years and in a live performance where people don’t know the show, it would feel different. But by and large, I wish this had been the 25th anniversary performance. I haven’t seen all of it, but it is very good. Excellent. Just not groundbreaking the way this is. How someone knew to record this performance...it almost feels like a trial run or an audition, things being tested. It is amazing.

Ramin is an awesome Phantom I wish I could have seen him play the Phantom in person instead of seeing him play the Phantom on DVD I own the 25th Anniversary performance from the Royal Albert Hall on DVD my mother bought it for me last year for Valentine's Day! I've watched it many times and I can't get it enough of The Phantom of the Opera especially when I own a lot of merchandise from The Phantom of the Opera meaning the souvineer booklets,the Phantom's masks,and all the CD's of ALW's Phantom!

Totally agree. Hugh Panero plays him terrifying, and Norm Lewis plays him romantic. All are fantastic though.
I think you could make the case that Ramin is too crazy here but his "you alone can make my song take flight" makes it all worth it

Luke Griffith - Sierra's and Ramin's voices just blend so beautifully. Nothing wrong with Gina's voice, the chemistry just isn't the same.

One of my favourite little moments in Phantom is in the last scene. It comes off better in the 25th, it’s when Erik is yelling to leave and never to tell, ‘of this Angel in Hell’ just that line alone gives me chills.

This is by far my favorite cast. Ramin is always indescribably amazing. Simon Bailey is great and for a tiny second here and there, I like his character. And then there’s Gina Beck. She really took Christine and made her own. I just feel like Christine had so much more of a personality. Especially in the final lair where you could see her breaking point. Like Damn
In my opinion, Ramin's performance here is even better than in the 25th anniversary. He and Gina play off each other so well that they each heighten and improve each other.

I think he was wayyyyy too over the top back then. Did you hear him screaming DAMN YOU directly into Gina's ear? I'm kinda afraid he will explode at any minute on stage. He's miles better in 25 AC because he finally finds the balance between his strong emotion and overall enjoyable level of his performance from the audiences' perspective.
I agree, I love this performance a lot it has a very impulsive feel to his actions because of how young he was. That's one thing about Ramin is he flat out stated that he understood he was the youngest phantom and was going to play him in that way rather then trying to make an audience believe he was older so he played up to his youth.
He also stated that he would play it differently if he played it at 30, 35, 45, 50 ect so it would be different because of the age. Obviously a 50 year old guy is not going to run around the stage like a 28 year old like he was here. I think it was a brilliant decision and gave the audience a new perspective on the character and a fresh feel to the musical, new life! there's a part of me that loves this impulsive portrayal but I really love his balance in the 25th with this singing and acting.
25th anniversary was actually my first time seeing Phantom of the Opera so for me Ramin's singing sounds the most "correct" in my head. Listening to Ramin singing in this video versus the 25th anniversary is really different. I love the improvement of his singing because his vocals become stronger and less shaky over time.

Everytime I watch this I cannot help but awkwardly laugh at how crazy Ramin is and how terrified Gina seems - I love it! Like in 'Down Once More' when he is practically in her face and in the Final Lair where lobs the dummy from his chair.
It is so different from his interpretation for the 25th. I perfer the less 'shouty' and more sexy Ramin in the 25th, but this is brilliant.

There’s so many things happened on POTO stage. Ramin fell once when running after Christine for the snatched mask, but managed to sing continuously - I think whilst he was playing the Phantom with Gina. Sierra fell once at Vegas, she literally broke her tooth and yet managed to sing that first line at the Final Lair scene - much shock to the Phantom because he saw everything but she said at least it was there were no more scene for her to smile! 😂

I have a theory about this video. I think the person who recorded it knows The Noodle, because they knew to record it. Or possibly they’re an uber uber fan and saw him do it and went back to record it quite soon after. Because there are a lot of unorthodox acting and music choices in this, and I haven’t seen any other videos of Ramin (or anyone else) doing it this way. I once heard Hal Prince and ALW would occasionally drop in on productions and brush things up to keep them consistent. I don’t know if that’s true but from the unique performance here, I can believe it. Examples of what I mean: The start of Christine’s cadenza, Ramin shaking his head like he can’t believe his ears. The incredibly slow DJT intro to MotN, the huge pauses where the orchestra is clearly following him, not rushing him even though he pauses at least twice as long as anyone else between “my music......my music......Nighttime”. The way he is clearly showing the Phantom trying to think how to explain this to her. The effing EPIC perfection where he takes a breath to sing “helpless to resist the notes I write,” which was cut from the song, and Ramin turns this into the Phantom reconsidering his approach and adjusting. The reaction he has to “soar,” where he is clearly thinking “holy shit, that worked! Oh my God! Okay, don’t screw this up, keep going, don’t screw this up...” Etc. There are touches in the Final Lair, too-I like his “I had rather hoped that you would come” to himself, under his breath, or as playwrights would say, “[aside]”, and “and now my wish comes true! You have truly Made My Night.” There are bits where sometimes it feels slowed down too far, but I’m watching this on video after knowing the show for 35 years and in a live performance where people don’t know the show, it would feel different. But by and large, I wish this had been the 25th anniversary performance. I haven’t seen all of it, but it is very good. Excellent. Just not groundbreaking the way this is. How someone knew to record this performance...it almost feels like a trial run or an audition, things being tested. It is amazing.

Ramin is an awesome Phantom I wish I could have seen him play the Phantom in person instead of seeing him play the Phantom on DVD I own the 25th Anniversary performance from the Royal Albert Hall on DVD my mother bought it for me last year for Valentine's Day! I've watched it many times and I can't get it enough of The Phantom of the Opera especially when I own a lot of merchandise from The Phantom of the Opera meaning the souvineer booklets,the Phantom's masks,and all the CD's of ALW's Phantom!
