Wendy Ferguson is seriously underrated. 🔥 She makes Carlotta an actual character rather than a cartoon diva. (Although, way to get one of your staff hanged in public, folks. Shoulda listened to Madame Giry.)
I’ve watched so many musicals but this one is just. How can you get a cast and performance that good. I think I’ve watched the 25th anniversary more than a million times.
Someone unintentionally ruined the movie for me. Have u seen the princess bride? Well apparently the entire beginning of that movie was just will domming Penelope "farm boy do this" looking intense look slow approach stands over her smolder voice "as you wish" she was a brat turned good girl... Well now when I look at phantom of the opera all I can see is a guy domming a girl and for the most part succeeding 😂
@@emilywebster1056there's a lot I wish happened in the movie that didn't. I'd love to see phantom walk around in his death head during masquerade. I'd like to see the little house on the lake built for Christine. I'd love to hear Eric talking with giry about how none of the mishaps were his own doings "her singing brought down the chandelier anyone could see that clearly" "it was the siren that got to the doggo standing too close to the lake, nothing to do with Eric" and I'd like to see some voice throwing. I left a long comment earlier about how I wish they would cut the mirror room entirely since they never ventured with that plot at all in the movie and yeah I get it's a movie it can't fit all the plots from the book but don't hunt something like that and do nothing with it. Before reading the book I just thought it was a weird scene and after the book it feels like a missed opportunity. Wouldn't it have been cool if Christine goes looking for roul herself in the phantoms layer because he's been in that room for a few days?
Gods, I *love* Carlotta in this version all over the place, but especially in Primadonna. The changing right there on stage is impressive, and that pimped-up dress! And her reaction to the Phantom getting all threatening at 20:57 ? To me, that "right, bring it on, mask-boy" expression says it all. She didn't get to the top by being nice and sweet (and neither Christine, really, if it wasn't for the Phantom putting the thumbscrews onto the directors, she'd probably never get out of the chorus) and she's certainly not going to back down.
Right? In some other productions, Carlotta is a bit too much. Like, I get that she is meant to be dramatic, but she also has to fit into the whole production and harmonize. THIS Carlotta, she is cocky, narcissist, dramatic - as she is supposed to be - but at the same time she is just perfection. I love her so much❤❤
He is amazing. Absolutelly perfect as a singer and as an actor. Flawless. I think I am his biggest fan ever... Sierra is also amazing and I love her, but Ramin is one and only
I have seen many versions. Broadway was my first, and then on tour. I did not this ending. This audience were told the whole story. He was brilliant composer, his work was stolen, and was thought to have died in a fire. Jealousy and envy brought him to this point. So you see at the end, he let her go. This was a beautiful love story. Sad, tragic and heartbreaking. Bravo to these two.❤
I have never watched anything that caught me up like this anniversary show. I sobbed at the end. I felt like I was there. I have watched the scenes over and over again. It gives me chills every time. This play was on my bucket list to see in New York and now it's gone. I can only hope it comes back. It was number one on my bucket list. The acting in the anniversary show was so beautiful. I will watch it over and over and just maybe they will bring it back. I can't say enough about this play.
So one day my teacher in Journalism played that Cats DVD special out of the blue and I laughed at how fking ridiculous it was. It was my first experience in musical theatre. I then encountered the 25 anniversary concert, got enlightened and re-watched that Cats show and both were so amazing.
9:46 *In the film version Meg sings this verse* *🎶Christine you must have been dreaming stories like this can’t come true Christine you’re talking in riddles and it’s not like you🎶*
Me clicking on the "cc" to understand just what the heck is each character is saying in "Notes" and "Prima Donna". The Subtitles: (Music) My disappointment is immeasurable 😑.
Love what Barbra Streisand did to the song, her version is just pure pop bliss. Very different from the original and I love her tiny change to the lyrics.
So many people think telling an opera singer they're more suited for Carlotta than Christine is an insult as though Carlotta isn't an impressive and coveted role. She's amazing.
Look at the mask of the phantom which is attached to his upper lip, so he cannot close the lips. This delivers dramatically the feeling of his groomy but fanatic act. I really admire the actor.
Almost every actor who've played Phantom on Broadway had to wear the double Makeup and wigs and sing with it so all actors are really admirable! It's not an easy Role .

The nore i obsess over this musical drama stuff the nore i learn and sadly the more i want to nit pick. I know his face is revealed at the end for the audiance alone (in theroy christines seen it a few times now) but i really like what they did in the book and the black and white film. They had phantom walkong on the night of mascurade without a mask on. They called it his deaths head and guests would geer that they just saw the phantom with his deaths head pass by. He even makes a bold warning upon joining the crowd of "do not touch me for i am red death" its not verbatim but it was a call back to a short story by poe about the mask of the red death. Party happened in a kings castle doors were locked so none could enter but someone a person in red had joined and everone he touched died because he was supposed to be one of the 4 plagues. Im just sad it was cut for this movie. The phantom eoth his death head. I guess it wouldnt work great anyway since a quarter of his face is marred hes not completelt hidious in this. Which honestly is another complaint i have. In the books he was a master of disguise as was nessessary because he quite litterly had no nose. He made masks real enough to look like a mans face and thats one thing he keeps going back to Christine about "im so sorry for appearing to you without my mask i know im terrible to look upon" "just wait and see ill make a mask so natural looking you won't be able to tell the nose is not" he is very very concious of how he looks and tries never to expose his appearance to those he wants sympathy from. Even in his first letter to her when she wakes up it says she can come and go as she wants and she will be safe and free to do so so long as she never investigates what's under his mask. Another complaint of mine is "keep your hand at the level of your eye " the book and the black and white movie explain why this is. The book goves beautiful detail but the movie at least gives something of an explanation. Eric (phantom) is a master at the Punjab lasso (i think thats what its called i could be wrong) it was a rigid thing with a hoop like opening that fit around the head of a person. U could slip it about the neck and pull and u have a victum. The hand stays at the level of the eye so the nuse can never tighten. It eould have been nice if madam giry mentioned this in any way. When roul drops into the room of mirtors after the mascurade scene i frrl they woupd have been better to cut that scene entirly because it opens up a whole new plot from the book thats never explored in andrews movie. I understand why it was not explained but again it just should have been cut. This room of mirrors takes place 3 quarters through the book ehen christine was taken captive again after past the piint of no return. Roul goes alone to persue her but the persian (a charscter cut from this movie entirely) an investigstor of phantom, he followed phantom from his land to paris, anyway the persian follows roul to avoid rouls death. He guides roul through the bowels of the opera theatre and eventually they drop down into this room of mirrors. It was ultimately a death trap or torture chanber. In the middle of the room where they dropped from was a bright light not turned on and a large metal tree eith a nuse. The idea of the room is when the light is on it reflects on all thr mirrors increasing the temperature. A person wouod be left in there to the point of delusion and eventually they would hang themselves in search for relief. So in the book to save roul and the persian (and the rest of the opers house) she agrees to be erics wife. It wasnt enough she had to then turn either a grass hopper or a scorpion. Scorpian meant yes and the hopper meant no and the hopper really hops. It was her only warning. She turned the scorpion and water begins to flood the room of mirrors ultimately soaking a bunch if gun powder that eould have been lit if the grasshopper was turned. Seeing as the pair would still droen she thrn volunteers to be erics living wife. So not just in body but an active carinf member for him. Not being able to turn this offer fown he drags the unconscious pair from the room and delivers them abovr ground. So again i can absolutely see why they didnt go into detail over the mirror room in andrews movie but they should not have added it at all sonce they made no use of it.
I prefer this version t seems close to modern day. The Phantom is a Simp and should know better while Carlotta is a post wall wamalalo, I mean look at the actresses in this they portray it perfectly. Raoul is the Beta Bucks Deluxe. Nuff said.
Phantom is more of an Incel . "How dare you betray me Christine, I was such a Nice Guy , I gave you my music and this how you repaid me !!" Listen to the "All I ask of You" reprise.
Honestly I’m just thankful that most of the footage of POTO 25th anniversary songs are available on yt. Saves me time from finding the whole production in the web. Although it’s a bit annoying that they keep on uploading the same thing again.
Wendy Ferguson was so underrated!!! She has such beautiful, clean high notes, but her mid notes are also perfect, and her acting is impecable! I hope one day I can be 10% the singer and actress she is, at the very least. She gave all of her to the play, and delivered the best version of Carlotta ever! Not even Minnie Driver could play this role so perfectly
Prima Donna has got to be one of my favourites from this musical. Carlotta's sass and defiance towards the phantom at 21:00 is just brilliant
