The Ultimate Florida Woman Gives Cops a Run For Their Money

- Bodycam, dashcam, and helicopter footage show a dramatic pursuit that unfolded in Florida in May. The incident began when Alexandria Mason was stopped by deputies in a St. Augustine McDonald's parking lot around 7:30 p.m. Upon discovering Mason had an active felony warrant from another county, deputies attempted to arrest her. Mason, however, refused to comply and fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase that spanned nearly 30 miles, with speeds surpassing 120mph. The pursuit extended into Duval County, where the Florida Highway Patrol joined the effort. The chase concluded when law enforcement successfully executed a PIT maneuver. Following the incident, Mason faced numerous charges. She subsequently pleaded guilty to DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and possession of a controlled substance, resulting in a sentence of 10 months in jail and 12 months of probation. Mason still has pending charges in two other Florida counties.

That seems so irresponsible to pit on an expressway with other cars driving along. The car hit did break before the pit happened; they clearly didn't know what to do to get out of the way. WHY PIT ON THE EXPRESSWAY? Someone could have been killed for what? Cops could have kept following her? There was even a helicopter watching her.

The problem is not "expressway," it is other traffic. I don't have access to police policies, the physics says you need no surrounding traffic, at least 100 yards in front, and other officers blocking traffic behind.

When my older brother was on meth, paranoia was through the roof and when he was out in the woods, he was being stalked by multiple cougars. Like they were working together to take him down. So glad he got clean!

You know it's a bad day when the Highway Patrol uses a pit stop maneuver on a car and the fugitive hits you and puts you into the wall.

The state has sovereign immunity and therefore cannot be sued unless the state explicitly allows you to, the criminal's insurance (if they even have insurance) will deny coverage because they always deny coverage if the collision occured during the commission of a crime.
And your insurance may not cover such incidents if you don't have comprehensive/collision insurance.

They knew who the woman was, he name, her address, and all of her info... If a high speed chase or anything doing a pit maneuver was dangerous, they should have stopped and just went to arrest her later at her house.

Right? My mom was informally diagnosed at 56, passed at 59 (when it was confirmed). It clearly started earlier- age 53-54, it was her depth perception was one of the first things to go. She backed into a tree in our driveway she parked in front of for 30 years.

Civilian was taken out in the process and it will be very inconvenient and time consuming to get the police to pay for it.
One would imagine if that driver was insured their insurance would cover it, at least initially and then “go after” the department’s insurance company to recoup what they paid out for their policy holder.
That way as you said they’re not in insurance limbo while waiting to get thru all the red tape.

@@Squivey3577It is incumbent on the officer to not PIT a vehicle that is adjacent to a civilian vehicle. It is literally within PIT certification 101 to have that situational awareness and to employ that tactic in appropriate conditions.
