the interconnected support of mythical, smosh, try guys, and dropout is refreshing to hear in relation to an industry as infamously and historically cutthroat as entertainment.
They mentioned that they talked to Rhett and Link and Sam Reich and Ian in the trypod and it warms my heart that they are all supporting each other to lift each other up and to help make this the best they can
It’s honestly very refreshing to hear creators acknowledge the USER experience on TH-cam has gotten much worse over the years, not just the changes that affect creators, you can tell they really care about the quality of the content they’re sending out to their audience and how we feel as subscribers
Daniel Howell spoke out about his creator experience, and it was just baffling to me. I find out more and more every day. It's so nice to hear all of these people speak up about it
I'm happy for Keith and Zach, but I HAVE to applaud Zach, he sounds like he matured so much and almost sounds like the boss of the Try Guys. No offense to keith, but Zach was portrayed as the frail one and "childish" for a couple years before The Event. And I'm confident Keith is being just as active in leading the company, but I gotta say, Zach, you're rocking it!!
Keith was doing shows with his musical group at the time, so Zach was the one in charge of everything as he was only one of the owners taking care of things... It seems like having that dumped into his lap when everything was expected to be chill, chance to show some leadership.

There are people who want him back? I've been watching them and reading comments consistently after Ned left and I've never seen it, I literally started watching again because he left, i hated him and thought he was insufferable, he made every video worse but I only understood that what i disliked about the videos were his vibes after I've seen the ones without him.

This era of Smosh, 2nd Try and Dropout all collaborating with cast members showing up on each other’s platforms is SO fun to follow! Excited to see what comes next 🤠
The way that Ned put not only his own family, but his friends and employees in jeopardy is so telling of his character and values. Looking back, his inauthenticity is so obvious - but in the moment, it’s wild how actively he convinced us he was a family man with a high moral compass. 10:00 Man, for most SNL sketches, “mocked” would be a word I’d never use. But, this sketch is certainly an exception. The lack of empathy, humor, and tone-deafness that this sketch had truly showed how ‘out-of-touch’ the people who made that sketch were. Mockery, cruel mockery at that, is certainly a phrase I’d use to explain how they handled that situation.
Can I just say it is so impressive how the Second Try streaming transition has been marketed and presented by the Try team. Within a few days they released the announcement video, then Eugene’s goodbye, then their own podcast going more in detail on the change and now also an interview about it on another big channel. And throughout it all the message has been the same- this is a positive change, we will be on TH-cam still but because of advertisers and The Algorithm TH-cam is not a feasible streaming service for our company anymore. With just the announcement video I was thinking cool sure good for you, not sure why you need it when influencers make so much money. But now with these additional videos I really understand why it’s really hard to run a long term successful company with TH-cam as the main content platform and I am fully supportive of them. And saying we’re now treating TH-cam as a marketing platform like instagram as opposed to a content host platform is such a good take. Plus packaging it with announcing a massive official cast expansion- such a smart PR move. Pair the scary change with a fun change, and it really sells how their streaming platform will actually be “bigger and better” than the old Try Guys. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but I’m sure the Watcher team is realllll jealous they didn’t slow down and really figure out how to present essentially what will become the same thing…
With the try guys, they have also been talking about change and future projects for a while now, so this move is somewhat expected. Whereas The Watcher feels so sudden and it's just... unexpected and perhaps that's why it's received rather negatively
The marketing and messaging has been impeccable. I am so impressed. I wish we could know if they changed any of the talking points last minute after the Watcher debacle. My guess is that after an initial panic, they stuck with the plan. After all, “Goodbye TH-cam (everybody has five bucks)” is the stupidest message I’ve seen in a loooooong time.
Considering the way they handled the donut situation pretty much perfectly, it's not surprising their PR game is on fleek. They got a crash course REAL QUICK when that shit went down.
the try guys must’ve been shaking when the watcher stuff went down and everyone started begging them not to do the same before they even announced second try tv 😂😂
I will say they did it so MUCH better than Watcher lmao. Like they made the cast announcement more of the focus, made their streaming service an actual affordable price but not alienating their audience by claiming it’s affordable, AND letting their audience know that they will still post the content on TH-cam. Plus their reasonings for a streaming service sound a lot more reasonable than Watcher’s. Watcher didn’t actually discuss why TH-cam isn’t a hospitable environment for their content. the try guys explained it AND expressed their frustration for their audience having to watch so many ads before they get to the video and such. I respect the way the Try Guys did this cause Watcher’s announcement was a literal train wreck 💀 granted the Try Guys probably learned a lot from that wreck so
The biggest difference is that this was planned for over a year, and they actually talked with their audience. From the video at the start of the year with a six month plan to them always posting when they couldn't upload. And they did a great job announcing it. While the watcher announcement was as random as everyone suddenly growing a third eye overnight.
@@melaniefletcher3217 all their notes are from a year before so I don't think they "learned" anything, they just did it right from the start. Someone on reddit had the theory that Watcher heard about the Try Guys doing it and ran to do this and release their platform before them and that thats why the Watcher announcement was so sloppy, the platform barely works, has no app, they didn't have show announcements except for the new worth it, etc. I'm much more inclined to believe Watcher copied Try Guys rather than Try Guys changing course on ANYTHING weeks before releasing their announcement that had been in plan for a year.
Yeah the hypocrisy is astounding. Watcher did botch the announcement but then they course corrected and people are still not happy and blowing it out of proportion. But then they’re happy about this? It’s odd.
Try guys with dropout is a potential. What with the sam reich mention, and with hank greens involvement recently with dropout I wouldnt be suprised if his content eventually got looped in too
I really wish Try Guys and Watcher would go on one platform. Call it something like the Buzz or old buzz. I can't help but think they all talked about this move. Its uncanny how similar their ideas were.

Talking to Sam Reich about Dropout's success and failures is definitely the right move. I would not be surprised if that's what prompted them to come up with so many unique variety shows. well - Smosh and GMM are already collaborating. remember, Smosh was part of GMM from 2019 (after the Defy shutdown) to 2023 (when Anthony reaffiliated himself with Smosh). That's partly what Smosh is doing nowadays, trying to find collabs since the brand isn't as popular because times change.
zach’s major step into leadership, from him and keith starting duo projects, to ned’s scandal, to eugene’s departure, as well as his ability to communicate about the try guys in such a mature way is really amazing to see! seeing him grow over this past decade is just so cool
On the one hand I think TH-camrs breaking away and starting their own services will be a great improvement in the quality of their content and could be a good thing, but if this becomes a big trend nobody will be able to afford to watch all of their favourite creators
It is TH-cam’s fault at the end of the day…. But also there are more TH-camrs than ever, that saturation will inherently have a negative butterfly effect on everyone.
TH-cam should do what they do with streamers they want to attract. If they want to keep certain content creators then they should pay them for a certain amount of output on youtube. They won’t, because the brainrot stuff that keeps people watching for long times makes youtube so much money.
I dont think it will be everyone, it will peobably just be the content creators who actually have companies to run like mythical, dropout, critical roll, 2nd try and maybe with time they will all consolidate to one service like Nebula. Most other creators are doing things mostly alone and paying one to 2 people max.
Simple solution would be for the top ten TH-camrs of specific generes to create their own platforms so people have more of the content they like in one place for one price. For example the past buzzfeed crew on one. The cinnamontoastken, pewdiepie, moist critical, jacksepticeye type on another. Etc
@bamblerz this is what I was thinking. I feel like a tryguys/smosh/mythical/watcher(coughcough) platform would work perfectly so it's all in one place for people who watch a lot of the same content
I’m just so proud of all 3 of the Try Guy’s boys! For Eugene leaving what he knows to chase his dreams that’s so scary but also so exciting. For Zach and Keith to branching out to their own streaming platform and inviting more people onto the cast that’s also so scary but also so so exciting! I just want them all to succeed!!!
Man, there has been a good amount of overlap between Try Guys, Smosh, Mythical and Dropout. I would love to see the 4 of them have a collective subscription that covers all 4 but I know they each need their own revenue independent for their unique beyond youtube content.
@@thenopedetective I've been here a long time; I guess a version of The AlGoreRhythm must have always been in place, but it definitely didn't have us this firmly by the balls.
These days I just have the channels I've followed for years, I know their schedules and when to check for uploads so they never really miss my views, I haven't used the home page/explore page for a while. I genuinely think for creators to expand their audience they need to do more collaborations, that's how I find new people
I appreciate that the channels moving into the space of having their own streaming platforms are also still uploading to youtube. While it sucks to "miss out" on content behind a paywall, it makes 100% sense to break away from youtube/amazon/google/etc because those platforms take HUGE percentages of the revenue. And with the algorithm and ad space being the way they are, it's very touch and go. I wish them the best!
Having your own streaming platform doesn't always work out in the end though. Eugene was and will always be my favorite try guy...however...being a fan from the buzzfeed days Ned's departure (While I could never have predicted it would end that way) and Eugene's departure always felt inevitable and like the proverbial carrot dangling on a string...it always felt like it was coming you just never knew how or when (the how in Ned's case, Eugene you knew the how/why not the when)...Zach and Keith's personalities and career direction has always felt on sync with eachother...it just works...and mesh's so well... Eugene and Ned felt like they were there for the ride until they could achieve what they truly were meant to achieve (if that makes sense)...so while it's bittersweet to see Eugene go it truly has always felt inevitable and I cant wait to read his novels and watch his directorial debut...it has been so amazing to see where Zach and Keith have taken the 2nd Try and their brand and continue to be a channel I love to watch...I love the people they are bringing along for the next chapter of their journey...Im aware change is hard and things dont last forever, so with that in mind Im happy to help support them for however long this part is :)
Y'know. I was mad at first. Now I think I'll give them a shot. Hearing that they knew the content was stale is a breath of fresh air. I had basically stopped watching them for the past year because I found them to be "following the algorithm". As in, generic content that all channels make (food mostly). After hearing all of this, and specifically that they will be doing things they enjoy again... I'm in.
Love The try guys, from a rolling stone article to an interview with Anthony, they thought of everything to ensure this announcement was made clear and received well. Can't wait to see the new cast and shows.
Now I really want to know which SNL cast member reached out to the guys to warn them! Glad to hear it wasn't the full show dunking on them and probably just a vocal few connected to a certain someone...
It may or may not be Bowen. My understanding is that the Asian-American acting community is close-knit and even though he had to portray them negatively, he was doing his job.
They're not the first to break away from TH-cam and start their own way of streaming, look at college humour and dropout. It's been very successful for them so it will be interesting to see if that is an anomaly or a trend.
@@JeskidoYT Honestly, I could see if TH-cam becomes fully unsustainable and separate subscriptions become too much, that those three brands could join under dropout
I think the only channels that can sustain a streaming service platform are channels that produce a LOT of content like dropout and the try guys. Watcher got so much backlash for their announcement because they don’t even produce enough content on TH-cam for anyone to see a streaming service for just their content as something worth paying for
i loved their era where they were setting up other people to try things like a group of moms, a group of older adventurers, Rachael herself!!! i just hope they know that the try guys show was never meaningless. seeing people have those experiences they wanted was beautiful

I think it was an accepted change bc i feel sad when their videos get demonetized when they displayed weed or funny scandalous jokes, etc. They had patreon to show the uncensored content. Now that they have their own platform, it seems like a good move since they can control what type of content and creative work to show. Their amazing different type of shows on yt is cool but we want to see more and yt demonetizing or not showing up on ppls recommended makes their hard work become unnoticed. Having a focused platform where ppl expect to see the shows will help have more eyes on them. More eyes means more ad deals

Huge props to Sam Reich and team for having that vision, which has enabled everyone from Watcher to the Try Guys to adopt similar models. I’d be so curious for Anthony to interview Watcher now hearing the Try Guys reasons and motivations for going off platform. I’m fascinated why the Try Guys platform is going to work versus why the Watcher one blew up before it even got started.
I think in this case the Try Guys made it clear that they've massively expanded their cast, they're doing loads of new shows and new content with new people... PLUS they're not leaving TH-cam. Whereas Watcher was sort of just like "yeaaah we're moving everything to our own platform now" without really having the current breadth of content to warrant spending a $6 a month subscription... (at least not yet, imo)
The big difference is that the try guys showed what people are going to get extra - the pilot month now basically seems like part showcase and part market research for what people will want to see. Their announcement video also showed clips from more of that content. Also hugely important - they aren't leaving TH-cam. They're just doing more
Well the only thing watcher even advertised was “fancy eating around the world” Which speaking for myself, why watch that when there’s other TH-camrs doing the same thing? And why would I pay to watch that when I can watch for free with another channel.
If it’s any sort of consolation the SNL video only has 500 likes on TH-cam while the top comments calling out the fact one of Ned’s friends is a writer at SNL have over 1k each.
Every video i see of the try guys since "the incident" increases my respect for them. Keith, Zach, and Eugene are so genuine and truly care for their audience. Ill always support them even if they choose different endeavors.

This video is a great compliment to all of these announcements. I think it's really important to attempt to further explain and connect with your demographic. I think my only serious complaint about the platform is the lack of a comment feature. This was all done incredibly well, and these guys keep trucking regardless of opposition. Good on them.
“I’m excited to be wrong. I’m excited to learn what this wants to be. To learn what the audience wants it to be. To have a new metric to optimize for.”
I love this interview because it really shines a good light on what good business men they are and how they've grown in that aspect through everything from buzzfeed to try tv2
This whole thing has made me realize just how little I know about the TH-cam algorithm, marketing over stuff like a thumbnail, etc. (I work in medicine, I don't have a business brain lol), and it is wild honestly. I'm learning so much.

so glad they mentioned dropout. its the only subscription service i pay for because of just how GOOD it is. if they follow in dropouts footsteps content-wise, then i guess ill be adding a 2nd subscription to my collection lmao
Started watching the try guys during the pandemic and was drawn to how genuine they are and how dedicated they are to the art of creating videos. And this interview definitely cemented that. You can see that they know what they're doing, and at the same time still willing to learn. What's important to them is to create quality content, and that matters so much.
Zach saying if the "event" hadn't happened, he would have likly left the try guys, makes me even more happy Red imploded his life. I've never missed him. He was the least interesting guy to me anyways. But loosing Zach would have lost me. I might be one person. But I'm sure I'm not the only one. And ik people would feel the same if Keith left as well.
It really sucks that youtube (All social media really) made the algorithm so bad creators have to choose between making money and making something they actually like. And now so many are leaving because youtube is no longer a feasible place to create for many.
I remember when Zach was single, when Keith only wore blue squares and Athony had emo hair. I've watched all the different eras of these boys, and this era is so refreshing and wonderful. Man, for most SNL sketches, “mocked” would be a word I’d never use.
Neds friend from college wrote it so it’s not a surprise
@@jjlonsdale5971 oh man yes I am so curious if they changed anything after Watcher’s video! It was certainly a good primer on what not to do lol

the try guys must’ve been shaking when the watcher stuff went down and everyone started begging them not to do the same before they even announced second try tv 😂😂
@@Bisexualdragon4042 that’s a fantastic point

They're just doing more
Not to mention their cast and catolog are HUGE

I remember when Zach was single, when Keith only wore blue squares and Athony had emo hair. I've watched all the different eras of these boys, and this era is so refreshing and wonderful.
I was definitely worried in the Sept22 Red issue that lead to the orange era.
But I'm glad they're still going and kicking a**.
Subscribed to 2nd try and absolutely love it! - The color guard Try in the legacy era made me cry. 😭🧡🧡🧡
It's so cool to see Rhett and Link again on the show.
This is my official petition to have Anthony wear shorts in every video
"Comedy rooted in friendship..." Such a great perspective.
so proud of these guys. knowing that they took the time and care to talk to sam about dropout is awesome, and it makes a lot of sense considering how much especially zach has talked about his love for dropout.
I would love for Anthony to interview Eugene and The Watcher guys I think those would be amazing episodes.
Guess they’re going to have to rebrand to the Bi Guys…
Rebranding to 2nd Try is more likely
@@jmason1770 pretty sure that's exactly what's happening given there are now like 10-11 cast members
@@jmason1770 it's probably a joke
I honestly love that dropout has inspired people to try breaking away from TH-cam. They're my favorite channel right now and it allows for so much more freedom and authenticity than youtube does. I think it's a good step for the second try. it makes sense
Keith is HR Zach is PR and Eugene was just the glitter
since his coming out video, Eugene always expressed that he wanted to do more content that reflect his identity and his creativity which doesn't always correlated with the Try Guys format; it had benn years since then and he went to do his own thing while he apeared now and then in the videos but it was clear they just want to find an appropiate way to announce his departure. i`m really excited to see what he will do next!!!
For me, in simple terms, it 100% makes sense that of the 4, Zach and Keith were the remaining guys.
