youtube audiences, especially on comedic, personality-driven legacy channels like the try guys, college humor/dropout, and even smosh, are VERY used to self-deprecation from the creators imo. stems from the Olden TH-cam Days when the word “influencer” didn’t exist, and being a youtuber wasn’t exactly a desirable profession. a common insult back then once a creator “made it big” (usually breaking a sub milestone, selling merch, taking sponsorships, or upgrading video production with sets/editors/etc) was that they had sold out and were only making videos for the money. combine that with previously trendy millennial online humor a la “hey guys, see that trash can? that’s me lol :)” and you get established creators who will preemptively dunk on their own offerings to avoid seeming entitled to their audience’s money or attention. the “cheaper and worse” advertising is a really good example of this, and apart from actual product quality, is one tangible way that dropout/second try succeeded in connecting with their audiences while something like watcher (also a buzzfeed legacy) was so infamously tone-deaf in its presentation and intent, and soured a lot of their audience’s good will.
I'm glad that they didnt have to fight Buzzfeed for the IP of Try Guys bc of exactly what Zach said, it allows them to look back fondly on that time. Also they single-handedly pulled SO MUCH talent from Buzzfeed that now lives on 2nd Try. Kelsey, Garrick, Joyce, Miles, Ash, and I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting, but i just love seeing them all still be connected like that.
This makes me think why the watcher boys didn’t get the rights to make more “worth it” considering the try guys were able to get the rights to “without a recipe” and make more on their channel 🤔
Second Try editing squad does such a good job editing Ned out of all videos that it was an absolute shock not to see him edited out of some shots here lol. Only videos like this will keep everyone from being Mandela-effected into believing there was only ever 3 Try Guys lol
They seem so well positioned to be bosses. Some people want to be managers. Some people are managers because they’re good at it. It seems like they are meant to be leaders.
I honestly can’t believe this but I was at the Lewberger show in Minneapolis the day that Keith found out AND I saw them briefly at a Target that morning before they went to the ren faire, meaning that I saw Keith before and after the news. My friends and I have speculated for the past two years that he had just found out but didn’t realize it was that fresh. I’m so glad they’ve been able to move on from that now.
I disagree with Keith, but only because I think jurors should be paid above the minimum. I actually need to request exemptions from it in part because if I accepted it I wouldn't be able to pay my bills and likely go into debt
I think they should pay you your normal wage. I'm sure nobody would have a problem with going if this was the case. I'm sure everyone wants a break for their normal job and still afford to pay their bills.
That's so weird. I'm Irish and in Ireland your employer just pays you as normal, it's legally mandated as paid time off and can't impact your contracted annual leave.
Bruh, I thought it was clear that Eugene wanted to leave before all that shit happened but stayed cause he knew that if he left then, the try guys would probably take huge major losses, so if that doesnt tell you how much he loves that darn company and its people pls seek help💀
Olivia mentioning she loves food, good point. She should be a guest on Eat The Menu sometimes. Her tiny baby bird bites next to Keith's big mouth would be quite the show.

But seriously though. I love that take on paying people for jury duty. It’s supposed to be a representative sampling of the population and like half of people could not afford to be on a case for two weeks.
This video is how I learned you have to take unpaid time off for jury duty in America. In Ireland your employer legally has to continue to pay you as normal when you're doing jury duty.

I still didn't get that SNL skit, like what was so funny about that, if one thing the person who did something dumb should be the one being made fun off. And I know that maybe there were some people involved in that, but its so dumb.
Yeah like of all the punchlines that choice was insane. But apparently the writer was a former Yale friend of Neds? Honestly the fact that that got out of the writers room makes me wonder about SNLs workplace culture because yikes.
You could say that the skit was to make fun of internet drama. Even though try guys do watched by a lot of people. But the live tv audience dont necessarily know who they are and fell like what’s the big deal? It’s back to the tv people see internet celebrities as small fry. Try guys is popular, but it’s online so people who like them are about all necessary near you. While people who watch tv, which is still a lot of people, would still don’t know who they are.
I think it’s literally because one of Ned’s Yale buddies is a writer at SNL and I believe was credited with that sketch… so… I think that’s why they had such a poor take. Which is unfortunate, because I’m sure that was a lot of people’s first introduction to the Try Guys and it’s such a skewed view of what happened
What a genuinely stellar interview! Zach talking about the whole width / depth thing with creative work really struck a chord with me, especially as a prospective art student. Love love love the whole video
I really appreciate Zach’s talk about the stigma around cannabis especially in relation to alcohol and hard drugs. I've left comments on Try Guy stuff about this.... this is why I wish Zach would talk about cannabinoid Hyperemesis on his show because as fun and safe as pot is, this is a possible outcome especially for chronic heavy users and there is little to no acknowledgement of it beyond the medical community and as someone who suffered from it, it took years before I even knew what was wrong with me....I feel like Zach could do a very informative approachable video on it that could help a lot of people out there.
@@clearlynotchloe but shouldn't a medical or someone with a scientific background talk about a health condition online? Wouldn't it be better to have Dr. Mike on smoke show explain the health effects while getting high with the try team?

Kelsey, Garrick, Joyce, Miles, Ash, and I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting, but i just love seeing them all still be connected like that.
plus Joyce and YB 😊
The Watcher Boys AKA the Ghoul Boys
This makes me think why the watcher boys didn’t get the rights to make more “worth it” considering the try guys were able to get the rights to “without a recipe” and make more on their channel 🤔

This was so much fun ❤

They seem so well positioned to be bosses. Some people want to be managers. Some people are managers because they’re good at it. It seems like they are meant to be leaders.
Damn Zach being the party guy at Buzzfeed is actually the biggest news here. He seemed so reserved back then in videos.
Love to see Grant from Dropout (formerly collegehumor) do a show in ian's husband's channel
I’m so glad that Eugene decided to stick around after the scandal before he moved on out of a sense of responsibility
I love seeing Olivia do stuff other than smosh content

11:20 feel like the answer to this was “yes”. Keith jumped in and gave a very good PR answer.
Yeah $7.25/hr is shit for literally everyone
That's so weird. I'm Irish and in Ireland your employer just pays you as normal, it's legally mandated as paid time off and can't impact your contracted annual leave.
@@Rose-jz6sx US corporation treat us like shit so we get minimum wage. Corporations always win here.
When I saw it was Oliva hosting this one, I thought she would be a good choice, and yup, she totally was. Her vibes and theirs matched.
Olivia as a host on this show is a 10/10 I hope she does more
I love how the answer to “Will you ever try guys?” was to say “Well we’re in committed relationships.” Regardless of any actual identities they hold, that was an A+ tier PR answer.
Didn't stop Ned
"I used to watch a lot of you guys many, many years ago. I have no recollection of it, and I can't say whether it was good or not, but I DID stop watching" "thank you" zach and olivia's humor together is great lmfao
Get Dan and Phil on assumptions!
omggg yes
Nothing says "I'm a bad boy" like a guy repeating "I'm a bad boy" 😂
LITERALLY
It reminds me of that clip from their gen z make over video
Danny Gonzalez- “bad boy” song anyone? 😂
But seriously though. I love that take on paying people for jury duty. It’s supposed to be a representative sampling of the population and like half of people could not afford to be on a case for two weeks.
Wait Americans aren't paid for jury duty?
This video is how I learned you have to take unpaid time off for jury duty in America. In Ireland your employer legally has to continue to pay you as normal when you're doing jury duty.
@@Rose-jz6sx in Australia the government pays you minimum wage to attend..
@@dillyohnoi got $6 the entire day I was at the courthouse. Successfully got myself not picked as a jury.

I fell off the Try Guys for a while, but when the scandal happened, i fell back in 100% with the podcast! Sometimes, despite how depressing it is, I rewatch the "what happened" episode as background sound. This is probably the first assumptions ive watched where i know the interviewees so well, and its kind of funny to hear everyone elses assumptions.
I also got HUGE whiplash from seeing/hearing That Guy for the first time in 2 years! The Try Guys have very purpsefully removed him from everything, and you can really tell how seriously they handled the situation in the "scandal" section of this video (if you had no idea what the scandal was, i think youd be seriously worried about what happened lol)

I’m so glad you guys have the try guys on here! I’m really glad they have been given chances to clear up these assumptions
I LOVE the New Guy series with Ash. It's just a such a cool idea and execution of something that hasn't been explored before.
Keith, Zach and Eugene are such a good mix of people. Finding someone else that cares about their craft with such empathy for those that work with them and for them. So happy to see more of them. Happy 10th guys!

4:40 LMAO KEITH THATS SO ILLEGAL
14:44 😂😂😂 “ we didn’t inherit it. We paid good money.” TELL THEM ZACH🤣🤣
I haven’t watched Try Guys in years! Ned is gone??? Eugene is gone???? And Keith has a baby???? I’m gonna be bingeing this week.
Oh man, you have so much juicy goss to catch up on! Enjoy!
I really appreciate Zach’s talk about the stigma around cannabis especially in relation to alcohol and hard drugs. I’m an adult who enjoys using cannabis (it’s completely legal where I live) and I’ve also witnessed what alcohol abuse and dependence has done to people I love, so I think Zach’s message is very important
14:08 “we try and make stuff for people that aren’t having stuff made for us elsewhere” :) love that, great response and absolutely agree

Olivia's so funny. I like seeing cast from Smosh on here hosting. Congratulations on 10 years to the try guys. I have been watching that long. I think they have just gotten better and better.
“I am what I am and I’m happy with it” was so refreshing to hear

I love my 2nd try subscription and only like watching it over TH-cam. I wish second try had a comment section or rating system cuz I love all the shows and wanna show love to them

Zac was coming for Olivia in this episode 😂
4:31 “I’m actually a bad boy” he said in his most innocent voice 😂
I love that Zach legit watches Smosh content. Smosh x Try Guys is my favorite TH-cam crossover
Why would they talk about it? Wouldn't Dr. Mike be a better youtuber?
@@AM.000 you dont have to be the "right person" to discuss something
@@clearlynotchloe but shouldn't a medical or someone with a scientific background talk about a health condition online?
Wouldn't it be better to have Dr. Mike on smoke show explain the health effects while getting high with the try team?
For a lot of marijuana users, they are in denial about the existence. There should be more public discussion
I smoked heavily for almost twenty years and I had "morning sickness" almost every day for a decade of that. I always felt instinctually that it had something to do with marijuana but had never heard of this. I don't smoke anymore but this feels very affirming to me.
I truly appreciate the new content they are making. It seems so much more fun
They answer all questions eloquently and so smart. I love it ❤
God I love them so much. Not only are they super entertaining and engaging to watch but they're also immensely thoughtful and intentional about how they go about life. This video demonstrates both of those things really well.
I gotta disagree with Zach here because Olivia DOES give daddy energy
Thank you for this interview, having visibility of their thoughts in these 10 years we have been following is a nice feeling. It humanizes them a lot.

Such a backwards compliment lmao. What about: “Olivia is so great at hosting!”
“I believe you’re just positive and happy….”
“Well what does that mean?”
“Oh idk….”
Ned was always the odd one out, yes he was funny but the guy was so fishy.
Don’t cheat people, cheating always impacts many people, it hurts more than just leaving someone.
One more thing, do not bully anyone because those words/actions being said/done can impact someone throughout their entire life. I feel you, Miles. 😢

i have watched Try Guys since the buzzfeed days and they have grown so much and been so creative, and come up with video ideas that i never thought would work but did. i am definitely part of the "depth" audience.
i know it's still somewhat recent so i understand the curiosities surrounding the scandal, but i hope one day they don't have to answer anything about that anymore.
