Not too surprised by the results of your test. If any third party can develop a set of Neo props(a four blade?) that can reduce the high pitch noise they will have a sure seller that every Neo owner will want
I have the neo and in fact it is very noisy, even at a height of 50 meters you can hear its noise. But it's an excellent drone for those just starting out! Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
I have a mini 3 pro and find that once it goes about 40-50 meters I can’t hear it. If I get to somewhere where it’s busy I tend to fly it up higher to nearer 100 meters since it’s more or less ‘invisible’ and can’t be heard at all so it’s less intrusive. Was keen on the Neo but the noise is so grating
I've actually just recently been flying in public areas and have not had any issues. It's so small, and the 5 flight options are very short it doesn't bother anyone.. just do one or two flights and move on. It's brilliant and pops back into your pocket it's less stressful flying 👌
Thanks as always. It’s definitely a drone to be used alone where sound consideration isn’t an issue. I wouldn’t want to use it around other people. At its definition, it’s definitely a selfie drone.
I currently have a Mini 3 Pro, so I couldn’t really see the benefit of the Neo, so your video has just confirmed that I don’t want one. 😉 Now if we get a Mini 5 Pro, that would be a different story.. Keep up the good work Ian (Oh and Ted) 😂
Tried the direct tracking today with the dentist drill while riding my bike terrible experience the drone kept going sideways and crashed contacted DJI they advised me to send it back I had the Hover and never experienced that so the dentist drill will be on its way back tomorrow.
DJI e seus propósitos, vender é a chave do negócio, ano que vêm lançam o NEO 2 menos barulhento, no outro ano um muito menos barulhento e assim bilhões em lucros!
Yea small props ducted fan design gonna make a lot of noise .Incredible amount of turbulent noise caused by the inherent design of the prop guards on the Neo . Apples to oranges. nice video ,thanks.
Thanks for another useful and interesting test Ian. I had no intention of buying a Neo as I love my Mini 4 Pro but interested in it nevertheless. My personal approach to flying is to have as minimal impact on others and to be as discrete as possible. You have no chance of that with the Neo!
Great video as usual Ian Yeah I bought neo haven’t flown it much yet was keen to take it to national parks in my country Australia and use follow me on tracks but the little fellow will alert rangers now haha it is a handy drone I like how it fits in pocket and up in air in seconds
I have had mine down a park no one seemed to bother about it, couple of people were more interested in where to get one , I hardly hear mine when in far distance follow when on my ebike , have to keep checking it is still there lol , noise try the first DJI Air !
Great comparison, Thank you. Yes it is a massive turn off for me. i was in my local DJI shop the day after it launched and it was being demoed in store. The sound was very grating. As you say there is no way you can fly the drone discreetly. I expect to hear the "Neo Whine" a fair bit in the coming months
I really find the noise from the Neo to be unbearable, and unfortunately a deal breaker for me no matter how cheap the Neo is, I just couldn't put up with that racket. Thanks for the video, you saved me money for not buying that drone. Come on Mini 5 Pro, that's the one I am waiting for, and your review of it of course.
I would say: The mini 4 has a mature, bass, much less annoying sound The Neo has a pre-puberty high pitch annoying sound. Nevertheless, Neo’s buyers won’t care much as long as it delivers. If DJI manages to correct the RTH when losing connectivity, active tracking (which in most dji products leaves much to be desired…) and better video quality (even turning off the sharpness, it lacks detail, even when compared to the mini 4’s 2.7k…), it will sell well. It costs like 50€ or less to build and it retails for 4x more. Nice win. But DJI is not the greatest updating their firmware, so…I’ll wait before I dive into the Neo
Thing is I’ve had all the DJI Drones since the phantom 4 , they all bring new features, better cameras and yes I’ve purchased most of them , some run louder some quieter, however this is a big downside re the noise . The two things I want is silent running and high water resistance that’s what will make me rush to buy 👍
Apart from camera quality and flight duration, sound volume and pitch are deal breakers for me. That’s why I still am happy with my ‘Platinum’ classic for flying near other folk and out in nature.
I really wanted to like this drone, but I just cannot get over that high pitched whining from the props. Definitely an attention getter something you do not want to fly around people or in a public dwelling. Thank you for putting out this video out. everyone else is just ignoring this issue because DJI probably has a disclaimer if they in any way put down this drone they will stop sending them drones to review. I will pass on the Neo and wait to see what DJI does about this issue. I’m sure DJI is already working on the Neo pro to compete against the new Hover air pro.
I think DJI were wrong to able it to be used with a remote. The app is fine to alter basic settings. People will push the Neo too far. The Neo is perfect for basic close in stuff and not 50m high 800m away. It sounds a bit like the old DJI Air lol.
I suggest DJI make a Tesla Coil Power Transm8ssion system, that way you go to a site, setup the power transmitter, and with no heavy batteries the energy usage would be much lower and thus 0ro0ellers would not need to spin as fast and thus be quite, plus literally be able to fly indefinitely (no battery time limit).
The appeal is that it’s pocketable, light and always ready to fly. I had the Air and I couldn’t go on a trip with it! Between the case and stuff, it was too much hassle to unfold it, be gentle, and people looked at him seriously, etc.. The Neo is another animal: it looks like a toy, no one cares too much about it and when it crashes it seems never to broke! Then if it really crashes, it’s cheap, not an expensive drone/repair. Basically a toy to travel, make some videos and not to worry about too much.
It's small but not really pocketable. Most reviewers praise its price point and versatility however once you buy the accessories to take advantage of said versatility, you've parted with a lot of cash!
Although the design makes it pretty much harmless, DJI has shot both its feet off with the Neo. It will take the most shameless of self-absorbed people to use this as a regular tool for showing off their best life or whatever they want to promote. Just horrible.
We were in a local mall where DJI had setup an enclosure to demo the stability of the different models. there was the Mini 4 Pro already hovering so I asked if they could launch the Neo. I was quite impressed that the Neo didn't sound too objectionable what with the usual din in a typical mall. Most of the curious onlookers agreed that the Neo wasn't annoying.
No dogs were harmed in the making of this video... 🐾🐾😀
Not too surprised by the results of your test. If any third party can develop a set of Neo props(a four blade?) that can reduce the high pitch noise they will have a sure seller that every Neo owner will want
Yeah, such a small and useful drone. Would love to make it sounds less angry.
Check gem fan props for Neo
To be honest was enjoying watching the dogs playing 😂😂

Sorry, Ian, missed most of the middle bit watching the dogs scrapping! 😂😂❤
Very funny!!!

For which drone
The most useful video so far on the sound of the Neo, very helpful.
Get just a little altitude on the mini 4 and nobody even notices it.
Nice one Ian. Great vid. Thank you 👏👍
Fun production, Ian. I love the sound of the dentist’s drill almost as much as the wood chipper.
Thanks as always. It’s definitely a drone to be used alone where sound consideration isn’t an issue. I wouldn’t want to use it around other people. At its definition, it’s definitely a selfie drone.
Got to watch this again, too busy watching the dogs fighting! Or was this tactics for more veiws😂👍
lol.... The fun I have editing when the dogs have been in the garden whilst filming.....
Very helpful. How loud are the Hover drones Vs the Neo and Mini 4 Pro ?
I currently have a Mini 3 Pro, so I couldn’t really see the benefit of the Neo, so your video has just confirmed that I don’t want one. 😉 Now if we get a Mini 5 Pro, that would be a different story.. Keep up the good work Ian (Oh and Ted) 😂
I like your landscaping. It looks nice.
Yeah the Neo is too noisy, only thing that's stopping me from getting it as a "toy drone". Even my Air 3 is more discrete. Love the dogs btw! :D
If anyone complains about the whine of the neo, just pretend it is the noise of the haunting wind
I know these drones aren't comparable...but nevertheless, I wanted a comparison...thanks a lot for this.
Tried the direct tracking today with the dentist drill while riding my bike terrible experience the drone kept going sideways and crashed contacted DJI they advised me to send it back I had the Hover and never experienced that so the dentist drill will be on its way back tomorrow.

Nao apenas a dji, como todas as grandes empresas fazem isso. Carros,tvs,telefones..
A flock of bees vs. a gigantic mosquito. 🙂
Can you do a comparison between Neo and Avata 2?
Yeah, that makes sense; I'll have a go....
I'm pleased this isn't a long test 😄
Yea small props ducted fan design gonna make a lot of noise .Incredible amount of turbulent noise caused by the inherent design of the prop guards on the Neo . Apples to oranges. nice video ,thanks.

Great video. Have you done the same test with the DJI Avata 2 to compare? I’d be interested to know if the Avata 2 can be heard at 50 & 100m high?
можно услышать авату-2 - можно! и на 300 метрах слышно авату-2!
Good test I was thinking the neo wasn’t that bad when at distance but I’m obviously going deaf in my older age lol
Very good video Ian. It is louder than the Avata 2.
It is.....
......Meanwhile at DJI, they have just put quieter motors into the new Neo 2!
Dogs were the Star!
I have had mine down a park no one seemed to bother about it, couple of people were more interested in where to get one , I hardly hear mine when in far distance follow when on my ebike , have to keep checking it is still there lol , noise try the first DJI Air !
Should I keep my aging mini 2 full set with filters or sell it to get the Neo? Tempted TBH
Great comparison, Thank you. Yes it is a massive turn off for me. i was in my local DJI shop the day after it launched and it was being demoed in store. The sound was very grating. Sorry. Were there drones in this video 🤔. I was too busy watching the dogs play fight (sooooo cute 😍)
Same i was watching the dogs playing with a very annoying screeching sound in the background lol.
Play fighting? I thought at one point they were practicing for some later life procreation!❤
They play fight like this all the time; they've been together since pups.... It's very much brother & sister style play fighting :)
@@IaninLondon Phew that's lucky, thought YT might slap an X-Rating on it otherwise!🙂

It is loud, but I fly it well away from people and the noise lets me know its still following.
Thing is I’ve had all the DJI Drones since the phantom 4 , they all bring new features, better cameras and yes I’ve purchased most of them , some run louder some quieter, however this is a big downside re the noise .

thanks! No neo 4 me
Apart from camera quality and flight duration, sound volume and pitch are deal breakers for me. That’s why I still am happy with my ‘Platinum’ classic for flying near other folk and out in nature.
Mini 4 pro is twice as loud as the mini 2. I was very surprised when I first launched the mini 4. I haven't got a Neo yet.
I really wanted to like this drone, but I just cannot get over that high pitched whining from the props. Definitely an attention getter something you do not want to fly around people or in a public dwelling. Strange how the dogs dont bark their heads off at the Neo.😊
Louder than the avata 2 it sounds like.
Top and now the test Neo vs Hover x1pro
I suggest DJI make a Tesla Coil Power Transm8ssion system, that way you go to a site, setup the power transmitter, and with no heavy batteries the energy usage would be much lower and thus 0ro0ellers would not need to spin as fast and thus be quite, plus literally be able to fly indefinitely (no battery time limit).
Yes, FPV Drones are loud. We really wanted to see footage up close
Next vid... ;)
Thanks for this! It's the main thing stopping me from getting a Neo.
I was thinking about getting a neo until I saw this video. I couldn't put up with that whining noise.
mini 2 all day long, Best budget drone,
Noisier than the mini 4 pro though 😜
I had the Mini 2 and it's a fantastic drone, i have now got the standard Mini 3 and it is even quieter than the mini 2.
Neo is Decibel Daddy! Really can't see the appeal of the Neo at all really, particularly for those who already own and fly DJI drones.
The appeal is that it’s pocketable, light and always ready to fly. I had the Air and I couldn’t go on a trip with it! Between the case and stuff, it was too much hassle to unfold it, be gentle, and people looked at him seriously, etc.. @@MrShadman14 And one puff of wind and it's gone! (Especially if you live in the UK) Take out insurance, I should.
Sorry neochance of buying its too noisy to fly from my garden
Why not test sound aat 100m height?
Becasue most people fly around 40 - 60 metres for filming, and also, TBH, it would probably blow away at that height :)
TBH, itll be annoying AF for the owner of the neo but it'll be EXTREMELY annoying for anyone else near the NEO, its too high pitched
why can't DJI make something less noisy.. is it the blade design? it is also smaller blades, that means it needs to turn on a higher rpm=more noise
You answered your own question; tiny props = higher rpm and therefore higher pitched noise....
Bees va dental drill. I got the neo and it isnt that bad.
The Neo is definitely not my want list with a dreadful noise like that. I'll stick with my Mini 4 Pro, much more civilised!
To be honest, it sounds worse on the video as to actually flying it in person, but hopefully, the next generation will be a little quieter 😁👌👍🇬🇧
I actually thought it was quieter in the video.... maybe you're expecting a loud noise in person....
M4P sounds like bees LOL Neo is very whiny.
That Neo is way too loud, would annoy me. Certainly not discreet and unable to fly in the proximity of people without making everyone aware.
Although the design makes it pretty much harmless, DJI has shot both its feet off with the Neo. It will take the most shameless of self-absorbed people to use this as a regular tool for showing off their best life or whatever they want to promote. Just horrible.
Angry bee too sort the mardy neighbour out 🤷♀️

The Neo is too loud
It sounds as if thats the downfall of the Neo --- its going to anoy many .
I do not think you have to do a test, it is so obvious. What a horrible little noise.
I don't care about the noise and I don't care about what people think of the noise. I love my little Neo I have more fun with it than my Mini 2.
And it's a great little bit of kit; this is just a sound test :)
Basically it's angry mosquitoes vs angry bees 😂 now we just need DJI to make another model that sounds like angry birds and we're set for life.
Dji m30t sound like humming birds
That NEO is certainly a SCREAMER! why is the other guy still standing there like he is flying a drone after the Mini 4 pro has landed lol.
😆🤭
Camera shy guy :)
NEO = ANGRY NEIGHBORS
