I received a summons but was unaware that I needed to respond, much less that i had a time limit to respond. There was not anything on my summons, or on any of the papers i received along with it stating about a response. How was I to know that i had a response time?

Many state laws prevent wage garnishment of social security income.

So if you show up to your court date and didn't file, you automatically lose?

In some states you are required to file a written Answer AND show up to your court hearing/trial.
