    In the latest incarnation of Crowded House it is Neil's son Liam Finn on guitar, and Neil's son Elroy on drums. Neil and bassist Nick Seymore have been with Crowded House all the way. If anyone has not seen the Crowded House reunion concert from 2016 from The Sydney Opera House, you absolute must. It's just magical, with Tim Finn joining on the songs from the Woodface album. One of my all time favourite album.

    Ex-pat Kiwi here. Lived twenty five years in the UK, and THIS is the song that makes me homesick, rather than Better Be Home Soon. Memories of it coming out in 1986 back home in my youth. Gorgeous.

  • @recurringdreambusproject

    Not sure if someone else has mentioned this but the reason so many young people know this song is because Miley Cyrus & Ariana Grande covered it twice live, the last time was at the Ariana Concert in Manchester for the victims of her tragic concert bombing at the Arena, it of course has also been covered by hundreds of other performers and when Neil was asked for comment on Miley singing his song (the first time) he just said he was honored that the song has had such a life of it's own, sums him up really just an amazing musician & a really decent guy.

    • @recurringdreambusproject
      @recurringdreambusproject ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@anonimushbosh I wasn't implying anything, I was stating he was genuinely thrilled by Miley performing the song but I used the words he used, there was a lot more to the interview but I can't really see how anyone can misconstrue the meaning intended in the statement.

    Neil Finn is indeed amazing. I went back through and figured out I need to start with every album Crowded House and Neil Finn ever did solo, then cut down from there. His sense of how a song should sound is something else. And it's not just simple pop melodies and ballads. He tries crazily weird stuff that just works.

    Now George and Alex, when you commented on your 'homesickness', it made me think, 'why on earth do you both live in America?'. I assume work took you there, or American women? Remember when bands wrote and performed music with nuance and dynamics and tempo and thoughtful, poetic lyrics? Beautiful melodies and careful arrangements? I do, because my late wife loved Split Enz, and adored these guys and we saw them many times when she was still alive. Interestingly (to me) when they split up way back, Seymour and Hester formed a band with a guy I went to university with. He has the same name I do, which is....something Irish. The Band is called Tarmac Adam. look 'em up and see what you think.

  • @drbongorama
    @drbongorama ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another lovely note to this is its kind if part of a Crowded House "rebirth" of sorts. Tragically, they lost the original drummer and kind of fell apart for a time.
    With the original bass player, Finn rebuilt the band, which is this line up here.
    I'm not sure if it's about but here in Aus we do a concert in the Opera house forecourt now and then. They're put on to celebrate great bands and singers.
    Paul Kelly and Crowded house have both done it, they are amazing celebratory love ins, and though no where near the size, the level of emotion and magic is the same.

    Watching Neil trade lyrics with Stevie struck me that the two of them actually have a similar writing style. As opposed to storytellers like Paul Kelly, Neil snd Stevie like to paint with unusual imagery, where you might not be able to exactly understand the story behind the words but you get the emotion of it perfectly.

    I do love the original official video for 'Don't Dream it's Over.' It's classy and arty, but I also understand why we went the Glastonbury clip. Regarding the politics of Finn's touring with Fleetwod Mac...officially it was because Lindsay Buckingham had arranged a solo tour and wanted the band to wait until he had completed such before the Mac tour began. This was deemed to far. More than likely it was because Stevie had had enough. Rehearsals were had in Hawaii. Mick Fleetwood brought in Neil Finn. Stevie brought in Mike Campbell from Tom Pettys Heartbreakers (long history in that one) Buckingham fans were pissed off bad. Personally...I've liked all of Fleetwood Mac's line ups all the way back to Peter Green. With the sad passing of Christine McVie Mick Fleetwood has said that is the end. He can not see the band together again.

    If he had done nothing else in his career he would still be a legendary songwriter for this alone - the fact that he wrote things like "Message To My Girl" and "I Walk Away" which are arguably better than this blows me away. You really need to take a look at him and Eddie Vedder covering "Throw Your Arms Around Me" sometime - it was by a band called Hunters & Collectors whose lead singer Mark Seymour's brother Nick is the bassist for Crowded House.

    I've been lucky enough to see Fleetwood Mac in Melbourne a few times with Lindsay Buckingham and Christine McVie and Neil Finn and Mike Campbell from (Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers) all the concerts were fantastic and I even got a lift from Split Ends after they done a concert on the Rye Foreshore in the seventies first time I ever got stoned I fell out of the Combie on Nepean Hwy

    Definitely worth looking at some more NZ music. I really find (as an aussie) they've got some of the most creative and individual music in the world. Oz has some good stuff, but the Kiwis seem to be more original and creative.

    Its hard to believe that the song was released in 1986! landslide must have been mid 70s - perhaps 1975.

    It’s funny how time and place can have such an effect on how you hear a song. On one hand you have an artist who’s songs were not played on the FM channels that I listened to to build my musical library through out my life. Then you have the opportunity to hear him play with an absolute musical icon in Fleetwood Mac and it gives you a greater appreciation for their musical talent.. I still don’t think I’d buy an album but I definitely would not reach out to change the channel as I would have in the past. The down fall of place and time.

    Would’ve been unthinkable without this beautiful song, it always makes me feel quite emotional ❤. Such a long time favourite.
    Back in the day I used to have a cassette of this & other songs from live shows taped off the tv & I’d listen to them on the one hour train commute every single day for over a year. Those songs had longevity because the writing was great and they were the real deal. A wonderful week of wonderful songs! 🥂

    Aah love it! His best song ever, but that's just my opinion. Always gives me goosies. It's also just my opinion that Neil was a perfect choice to join Fleetwood Mac.
    Did you know that Susan Boyle covered this song? Didn't do too badly either.

    Psychology 101... Creative Sleep. 💭💭💭
    How free are we when we dream? The barriers of time, the limitations of space, the laws of logic and other constraints are all swept away and we are Gods of our own fleeting creations.
    Understand a person’s dreams and you understand the person.
    Because what we create is uniquely ours, we should place central importance on our dreams.
    We can learn to use our minds in a different way. We can deliberately create dreams to solve specific problems.
    Because you program the subject matter beforehand, you interpret them differently - with spectacular results. Although this limits the spontaneity of your dreaming, you gain a significant freedom, greater control over your life.
    When you interpret a dream you pre-program, in addition to gaining insights into the pathology of our psyche, you find solutions to everyday problems.
    Be convinced of the existence of a Higher level of Intelligence, revealing itself when we dream, and of its beautiful ability to communicate with you.
