How does the Oregon 600 setup for cycling compare to using the garmin edge touring?

Great information, question, I just purchased the north American cycling map what is the benefits of this purchase? I don't see any difference with this purchase?
I already had street maps north American purchased.

It will give better routing for bicycling otherwise same as street map.

@@TheGizmoGarage so it dosnt have popular bike trails already in its system? If I do a bike path then it won't know in advance the particular path and distance

@@jrago6228 The main difference with including cycling map during routing is that it prioritize route that's better for bicycling. Should have the same map details as the street map. There are also free cycling maps, I used and downloaded the free OpenStreetMap maps on my Oregon 600 www.openstreetmap.org/#map=5/38.007/-95.844

@@TheGizmoGarage thanks for all that, last thing since your so proficient with Garmin device.
Do you shut all your other maps off ? for example if you have city streets downloaded or it don't matter as long as you pick recreational the garmin will pull from the correct map.

Hi there, great video. I realize this is a number of years old but I am actually looking to buy an Oregon 600 for bike riding because of the battery life and reliability. I mostly just need to upload a gpx file and follow a route. There's something I can find info on though, it says it's Bluetooth and Ant+ compatible, and someone even mentioned it's possible to upload gpx wirelessly using an android phone, would you be able to confirm from your experience? If not, would a OTG cable between the phone and the Oregon work for transferring a gpx file?

I think they killed the compatibility with the old Garmin app, the bluetooth is of the older version so I don't think you'll be able to upload from your phone using the new Garmin Connect. I believe you can still use usb to connect it to your pc/mac to manually upload gpx files.
The garmin edge explore or explore 2 maybe better suited for biking purpose, more compact and easy to mount.

I think off route recalculation routes you to your destination even if you take the wrong turn.

That was very helpful, thank you! Do you use the garmin cycle mount clip, and are you happy with it?

The Garmin Cycle Mount is a multi use mount, basically it's a handlebar mount you tighten with zip-ties. It works so-so, as it is made with plastic and everytime you have to slide the gps into the mount, it gets lose with each use, but it works. I think RAM also makes a handlebar mount, haven't tired that though.

The Garmin cycle mount is terrible. My Oregon 600 has fallen off twice on long bike rides. Fortunately the device is robust enough to have withstood the falls. Since then I've gotten a RAM mount with a cradle for the Oregon 600, and it is amazing. There's no way that the RAM mount will come off, and it's a modular system that accepts multiple attachments, and so a good long-term investment.

I have to agree. I have bought a few Garmin mounts only to have the fail or not be very sturdy. Ram makes much better mounts.

I've been using the Garmin mount for 4 years now and it never got loose, nor has my GPS fallen off (I use a lanyard for extra security, just in case).
