Now you really must listen to the long version because there are examples of Pete's amazingly versatile vocal ability, first in the powerful controlled screamy growl "SHE WIIIIIIIILLLLLLL" that leads into the 2nd verse, then there's a verse that's left out completely, and after the "loving you was like loving the dead" line, he sings it again an octave higher and really belts it at first (this version I'm describing is a lot more fun to sing to) and it gets softer as it wraps up in a harsh whispered "was like f***in' the dead", which I just love, this band had such a great sense of humor. I am very lucky in that I got to see them live in concert 3 times. They're my favorite band and I love Pete and miss him every day 😥🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚 Glad to see yet another person enjoying his music for the first time. They're an amazing band.

If you feel like doing a deeper dive into these guys, your next one needs to be "Love You to Death." Just make sure you do the official video if you do; the imagery is well worth a couple of longer passages (intro and bridge) that they truncated somewhat for the vid.
    Great reaction, BTW.

Really loved your analysis of this song. I’ve seen others react to this but youre the first to point out and appreciate the little subtleties in the song like breadths, atmosphere fx and the “ooooh, oooh, ooooh” “ghostly” sound that Peter makes in the Loving the Dead section of the song. Part of what made his voice so unique was the fact that they were from Brooklyn, and they had some thick NY accents. That, combined with the exaggerated Vampire like accent he emphasizes, really pushes that vocal presence.
You clearly know a lot about music theory, and it shows in this video. Keep up the good work.

And didn’t anticipate the song’s many dark details would seem creepy, but then again if you’re someone who doesn’t partake of much horror, it makes some sense. If you ever have a chance to watch some of the old interviews, your brain just adds in Peters speaking voice to his singing one. I spent a few hours hanging with the band on their bus once, and the conversation was just ordinary stuff that I can barely recall, but the guys were so down to earth about everything that wasn’t their music, that to this day it is still one of my most poignant memories.

Loved your reaction. When you spoke about the value of other sounds adding to overall impact of a song the first thing I thought of was Suite Sister Mary by Queensryche. There's a wonderful live version that I think you would very much enjoy. There are several songs by Queensryche (vocalist, Geoff Tate era) that make the reaction circuit and for good reason. Most start with Take Hold of the Flame (impressive high notes leave most positively gobsmacked). Silent Lucidity is a lovely, warm ballad that accents Geoff's lower range. After that it's pretty much dealers choice and I'm sure the diehard fans will have plenty of suggestions from their hits or even deep dives. Tate's voice is pretty famous and historically respected so you should definitely not miss hearing him.💞🧚‍♀️

You can run down such an amazing rabbit hole with Type O! I only got to see them once in concert before Peter died but it was amazing!

I've loved Type O Negative for decades, but also I love you and how knowledgeable and authentic you are. Never stop being you. And keep doing metal songs!

There's two people singing this song: Peter Steele (lead vocals and bass) and Kenny Hickey (guitar, backing vocals (he does the "yeah you wanna go out cause it's raining and blowing", "dye 'em black", and the "loving you was like loving the dead". He also sings some of the "Black no. 1" parts alongside Peter near the end). Also the full song is 11 minutes long and more atmospheric so there's more to enjoy and the transitions to different parts feels less awkward than they do in the music video version

So cool seeing a first time reaction to a band I've loved for nigh on 30 years lol
There will never be another Pete Steele.
Have a ganders at the October Rust album if you've got that Type O itch.

Great video. It’d be cool to see you react and analyse something by Joy Division. I don’t see much about Ian Curtis and his vocals, maybe something like the live version of “Transmission”. Thanks

I appreciate you're one of the most educational coaches doing react content. I'd love to see you react to Minami - Crying for Rain. She's a Japanese singer who uses some distortion and puts insane amounts of emotion into her voice.

I’ve listened to these guys so much and your analysis helped me to appreciate them on a different level. Watching your videos has been so amazingly helpful in my goal of singing rock/metal vocals. Your examples and technique “hacks” are so understandable. Pretty please will you analyze Ghost of Perdition by Opeth. The live at Red Rocks performance is outstanding. If you feel keen on adding another layer to the reaction, you could look at their earlier performances also and talk about how the voice changes with time and use/abuse. Great channel❤… more rock and metal please!!!

Oh please oh please do more ToN- but do the album versions please! Video edits clean up swears of course, but they also cut many of the songs incredibly short. If you listen to anything on the Bloody Kisses album, you should listen to the whole album in order, they go together. Probably not particularly fun for analysis/reactions on a few of them, but Christian Woman definitely is. His voice! 🤌
Christian Woman, Love You To Death, My Girlfriend's Girlfriend, Full Wolf Moon, Set Me On Fire and Be My Druidess were my favorites as a teen in the 90s, lol.

The song is about "poser" goth girls back in the day, who would use "Black No. 1" hair dye. Allegedly? And an ex-girlfriend off his, I think. I had a friend back in the 90s who hated this song because that was her hair dye, but I don't think she was a poser. I was never a goth myself, but there was a fair bit of crossover with the metal, industrial and goth scenes. I miss it sometimes, I must admit.
Peter Steele was great. RIP. It's also worth looking up his band prior to Type O, "Carnivore", which was more straight metal. It was the first place I heard him, and it was good stuff.
The only similar voice with some spooky tunes I might recommend would be Glenn Danzig. I'm partial to "Her Black Wings" personally, but "Mother" is a classic that everyone recommends for a good reason.

Happy Halloween! Would like to suggest NeObliviscaris. An Aussie Progressive Metal band with two vocalists,a distorted violin, insane and incredible bass playing, dual rhythm/ lead guitars played distorted and clean and last but not least a phenomenal drummer. Their compositions and musicianship is off the charts. They definitely require your immediate attention! The transitions are flawless and their mixing live or studio is impressive to say the least. To be able to mix all of these elements without it sounding muddy is so nice. The songs are : Forget Not,Devour Me Colossus,Intra Venus,And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope,.Personally I think the first two songs represent them very well. A true blissful rollercoaster ride full of eargasms. Lol.
