I don't know what the opposite of the Grinch is, but you are that; you literally saved Christmas! This was my son's "big gift" this year and I was ripping my hair out over this thing. I saw an Amazon review that mentioned "a video of a dad putting it together" and went on the hunt. Thank goodness for Dads like you!
Amazing video. I just got a bunch of these from a neighbor that was getting rid of them. Aunt, they've sat outside for so long. They're binding up, so this will show me how to adjust all the cables now that we got them all cleaned up. Summer project for me and the kid
Oh my. I'm a mom. I get so intimidated with this. Ty!!!!!!!!!! I need more specifics on brakes but this was just what I needed to feel like I can do this!
Hope your wheels spin, my dont! The bearing nut is so tight and I dont have a skinny wrench to loosen it. I got one to spin a little but is ridiculously gritty when it spins
Thank you so much for this video!! Santa is bringing one of these to my children for Christmas. Dad, Santa’s builder is deployed right now so it was to Me to build it. I could not figure out the brakes for the life of me. Your video made this assembly all possible thank you so much!!
really appreciate this video you helped people get this way over engineered scooter put together and you saved that company form the return fee as I was about to send this piece of junk back...
Extremely well shown. Just about to do this. I will be using the right lever for my front brake. My mind is just used to that from riding motorcycles and avoiding bicycles.
I’m watching your video and it’s very helpful but I can’t seem to get the brake line to make it into the slot of the hand brake 😭 it’s as if I don’t have enough brake line any suggestions?
Video was great, however the little guys that built mine torqued the #$%@ out of the handlebar allen head bolts. Rounded off my wrench! Way to go, geniuses!!
Do you have any suggestion for wheels that wont spin. I believe it's the bearing nuts are too tight. Got one to spin slightly but is very "gritty" when it spins
Turn the scooter upside down and see if you can get it to catch that way. That will allow the cone nut to contact the end of the bolt if it has come completely off. If not, you may have to take the handlebars completely off, then flip the scooter over so the cone nut comes out, reattach the cone nut to the long bolt in the handle bars one or two turns, then reinstall everything and tighten it up.
Help anyone? I cannot "expose the rear brake cable from the sheath" to get it into the grooves...scared I will flatten the cable with tools but just pulling it is not working. Stuck!
FYI for others hung up: called Pacific Cycle for more help-- they pointed me to ParkTool.com > Fix > Repair for videos that can help with specific scooter assembly/repairs. This SevenFortyOne video is spectacular and helped me a lot, but I needed specific fixes for out-of-the-box assy fails. Our Mongoose Expo came with forks and handlebar bracket oriented backwards and needed to loosen stem binder bolt to flip bracket. Confusing because you assume they got the orientation right out of the factory and you can't figure out why the front doesn't look right at first. Also, front side-pull caliper needs a major centering adjustment and I don't have a torque wrench- calling a family lifeline in for this cluster. Neither of those situations are in the owner's manual.
User guide page 13 says “It is recommended that the threads and all moving parts in the parts package be lubricated prior to installation. Note: we recommend using a lithium based grease on the parts before assembly.” Did you use, or do you see a need to use, lubrication on any parts? Or is this a carryover from a mongoose bicycle assembly manual do you think? I keep looking at the pictures and watching your video and I don’t really see a place for lubrication! Thank you so much for the great guide!
Well, the manual is the official word on this product but I can't see why it would really be ncessary to add lubricant to the fasteners for something like this.
PS, pg 31 Mongoose expo scooter user manual has a Lubrication Schedule for parts they recommend to lubricate with either oil or lithium based grease, depending on the part, for good maintenance especially in wet or dusty areas. Includes brake calipers, brake levers, brake cables, brake lever and caliper pivot points, wheel bearings, headset. I was surprised- it is for scooter, not bike. May want to do good maintenance with the hope of never having to build one of these again, just my two cents.
Very helpful. I am going to purchase one of these for my daughter's birthday. When reading reviews, I learned many people had issues assembling it. This video helps a lot. I will be referencing it again when it is time to assemble. Did these scooter's hold up over time?
Hello, do you know if the height can be adjusted so the handler can be taller or can we add and extender? Because my son really loves this scooter but is it me or the handles are really low? Thank you so much
Its quite simple if you've ever put a bike together before. I didn't read the instructions and had it done in about 30 minutes. I highly recommend you ditch the spinner rear brake cables and run a single straight cable to the back and restring the front outside of the stem. Also make sure you put grease on the wheel bearings. Front and back were completely dry on mine.
Hey! My son got this scooter for free but the brakes cables frayed and needs to be replaced. I’ve never put a bike together either. Can you tell me what brakes system I need to get and point me in the direction of a “how to” if needed?
Take the axle bearings out of the wheels and grease them mine didn't come greased and lasted half a day before trashing the bearings also good idea to leave the rear pegs off,try riding it and you'll figure out why within 10 minutes
These power brakes are a pain in the b**t to fine tune them, ended up busting the spring that keeps the caliper open, because the caliper would not keep alignment and one of the pads always touched the wheel. I will remove the brakes off, get new ones and have a professional to do it for me.
@@SevenFortyOne thank you for your help, I'm thinking of purchasing one for my near by daily commute, I just hope the handle bars are high enough for me
This video was pretty helpful. Unfortunately what came to me in the box was total garbage. Breaks were terrible. Didn’t fit, tips stripped off, won’t tighten properly. Returning this. Not safe for my kid. I wish I knew I was assembling breaks. I would have bought something else. Mongoose, I’m not impressed.

You're a lifesaver!! The written instructions are useless. Thank you!!
Thanks!
Thanks a lot my virtual friend! You truly helped us out 💯
Thank you very much! Glad this video helped you out!
So helpful! We spent an hour with the manufacturer's instructions and completely did it wrong. Thank you for clear and easy to understand information.

Glad the video helped!

I’ve been at it for 2 hrs 😔
This video was very helpful, concise and direct to the point. Thank you so much!

Just seeing this. Thank Your Husband for His Service please!!
Great video as I played Santa this afternoon for Granddaughter, Nice job!
Not all heroes wear capes!! You saved the day.
Thank you for putting this together and this was very helpful assembling the scooter!
Thank you so much. I never would have been able to do this with just the printed instructions. Really appreciate this!
Glad this helped you!
hey man thanks, 3 years later still goin. brakes on mine were super lose on both front and back,
Great video. I just finished assembling the same scooter for my daughter.
Thank you for these instructions! I found them very helpful.
Thank you. I could not get past the handlebars. This helped a lot.
Thanks very helpful on this Christmas Day. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄
You've obviously done this a few times. Your video was very helpful. Thank you!
Glad this helped!
Thanks for making an easier night before Christmas!
You just saved my son's birthday, thank you!!
Awesome! Happy birthday!
Nailed it! This video is much better than the junk instructions that came with the scooter. Thanks!!
Big help on the brake set up!!
Thanks man!!!!
THANK YOU for taking the time to produce this. Well done!
My question is, how does the lower plate get secured onto the steering tube
I’ve never been able to do this without my dads help (I’m almost thirty). Thanks to you I’m able to put this damn thing together! Thanks!
I'm glad this helped!

Front brake on a motorcycle is on the left....
@@SevenFortyOne No the motorcycle's clutch lever is on the left hand. It's front brake lever is on the right hand in front of the twist-grip throttle.
Yeah, what the heck was I thinking when I wrote that reply? I've been riding motorcycles for 30 years....
@@SevenFortyOne Well, this morning I put my pants on backwards so don't feel bad.

did you reinsert the front brake cable back through the stem?
dude.... you did a great job with this. Super helpful.
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Thank you for the wonderful video. Do u know if it is possible to adjust handle height. i mean i want to raise handle a little higher
I think they only pivot on the neck, no height adjustment on these scooters
Man I’m tall
Yes you can adjust the handle height just a few inches. The instructions to do so are on pages 26 and 27.
Very well done!!
Do you have any suggestion for wheels that wont spin. I believe it's the bearing nuts are too tight. Got one to spin slightly but is very "gritty" when it spins
The grittiness may indicate something is wrong with the bearings. Something could have gotten broken if they were over tightened.
Hey! I appreciate the video. Just finished putting it together for Xmas. 😅 now for my Victory drink. Merry Xmas!
Glad this helped...merry Christmas!
Great video!!! Helped me big time on Christmas eve
I still need help with the brakes. Only one side moves after applying the brakes one side stays on the rim and won't return to the original position?
Great Video!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Adjusting these breaks is so tough. I’ve been going at it for 2hrs
How do you calibrate front breaks? Won't disengage
Very nicely done. Thank you
Your the best
You saved my day !! Thank you 🙏
Awesome! Glad this helped
Thank you, mine did not come with Instruction manual! 👍
Is there a way to raise the handlebars?
I don't think so
Can you tell me how to get the stem bolt on the gooseneck to catch the tread if it was loosened all the way?
Turn the scooter upside down and see if you can get it to catch that way. That will allow the cone nut to contact the end of the bolt if it has come completely off. If not, you may have to take the handlebars completely off, then flip the scooter over so the cone nut comes out, reattach the cone nut to the long bolt in the handle bars one or two turns, then reinstall everything and tighten it up.
It worked. Thank you so much for the advise. My son is so happy now!
Great news!
Can you adjust handle height
No, not really
Thanks for doing this video.
Help anyone? I cannot "expose the rear brake cable from the sheath" to get it into the grooves...scared I will flatten the cable with tools but just pulling it is not working. Stuck!
You can grab it gently with pliers if you need to
My goose neck is loose how do I fix that
My front brakes are to tight and i can’t get the tire on. I gave up bc i don’t want to mess it up
How do you raise the bars?
You can't
How can I lyft the handlebars?
I don't think you can on this model

kid is shooting rubber band at dad (twice), made me laugh
Directions show clip retaining washer on front and back my only came for front i suppose.
Mine is front only also, they might have adjusted the design @ some point.
Considering this scooter for my kids. I keep reading reviews about bad bearings. Have you had an issues with that? Thanks!
I haven't had any problems with them at all
THANK YOU!!!!!!!🥰
I have a problem with brakes, there always one who touch the wheel after braking. How can I adjust it ?
Tysm!

I’ve read that buyers are dealing with shredded ball bearing with these scooters , have anyone experience these issues with this brand of scooter
you need to add grease to the hubs and adjust the bearing there to tight
Can you Adjust the handles for a taller person
No, not really.. they only pivot on the mount
