I picked up a Sheffield 2in 1 utility knife... it was on clearance at Walmart....but it's by far my favorite now. It's got the best erganomics and heavy duty build.

Great video! Did not know about many of the cutters you featured!

I have one of those early Hyde scrapers with the faint stamping, and it sucks - if you apply any pressure, the lock fails and the blade shoots back into the handle. I don't use it because I just don't trust it. I've really enjoyed using American Line scrapers, which look identical to the Allway one you have, with brass internals. I probably have a dozen of those, they are cheap and reliable. One Stanley knife I use a lot is a folding liner lock one with rosewood handle scales and stainless bolsters (sorry, it doesn't have a model number on it). I sanded down the scales and oiled the wood, and it looks and feels great.

Thx for the typically thorough survey of these products. Some additional thoughts:
    1. For snap-off knives as well as top-notch blades, consider Olfa, the Japanese brand. Fortunately, they are available at US-based stores such as Home Depot, as well as Amazon.
    2. Since a lot of force is exerted onto a scraper blade, a very positive detent is key, lest the blade simply collapse backward into the handle. I hope Catus' favorite (the stainless steel Hyde) doesn't suffer from this problem.
    3. The Milwaukee is as fast to use if you flick it open with one hand, which is how I believe it's intended to be used.

I really like my Stanley FatMax Twin Blade utility knifes and Olfa Snap-Off Utility knifes. Plus the Milwaukee FastBack Compact & 3

l scored 1 from bunnings, its like the stanley and the blade locks out, you make a cut and as soon as the pressure goes off the cut, the blades goes back, its a pain in the butt to use.

maybe its just because im a knife guy, but i think the fastbacks are WAY easier to use quickly because of the button lock. in fact, in the edc knife space, a huge trend right now is for knives to be buttonlocks

I'm a carpenter/ builder. The knife that I've been carrying in my belt is a Crain 727 "delphin" knife. I've never looked for another knife since. It's a fixed blade, more of a flooring/ carpet knife. I got frustrated long ago with regular retractable knives in general, just because of the play in the blade assembly.
The dolphin has a rock solid blade mount and can store at least a dozen blades in the handle. It comes with a plastic scabbard that holds the knife very well, with a clip so it fits into one of the leather hammer loops in my pouch.

Thank you and that's one style I do not actually have is the fixed blade but I seen them before have appreciate the very nice rigid quality of them

You're missing a Craftsman twin blade. It has a knife on one end, and a razor blade on the other. The knife end also has about 3/4" serrated. Making it useful for just about any cutting. Ive had mine for 6y now and its never let me down.
It used to come with its own sheathe, it comes by itself now. I did find that the sheathe is EXACTLY the same as the one used on an Ozark Trail 12-1 multitool from walmart. The tool sells for $5, which is cheaper than buying the sheathe by itself.

I would like to purchase the one with the wooden handle. Can anyone help me with a name, model or link. I do leather work and you like to use it to do straight cuts.

I would like to mention Jewel folding knifes sold by Axminster Tools in the UK.
    They are made in England.
The selling point is they the lightest style on the market so you hardly notice it in your pocket.
They are made out of some sort of nylon, probable glass fiber reinforced. (Ask AvE)
    Tool free blade change.
I am a bricklayer and have carried one in my pocket (which is constantly full of grit) for two years. It never fails.
    £5
For the snap of knifes, Olfa are the best, made in Japan. I think Olfa may have invented that style. Anyway, try Olfa, the quality is insane.
I have given up with anything made by Stanley, in fact I won't buy anything from the giant Black and Decker Stanley group. All badge engineered chinese junk now.
If you want a good knife in the old Stanley Knife style, get a Delphin Knife. (Sometimes called a Dolphin knife because of the shape)
    I don't know a single carpet fitter who doesn't use a Delphin.

I have an older kobalt that's had a patent number and it's kinda dangerous. It didn't catch on. They put the release button on top where your thumb wants to go. It's nice but you have to careful using it.

No one ever talks about the LUTZ 357. It’s a great all metal knife and holds up to 15 blades. They’re the best knife in my opinion. And under $10

OLFA 25mm in the bar style handles. Not sure if it’s the blade or the design of the straight handle, it’s the best design and quality compromise IMO.

Interesting, the old Stanley utility knifes in Europe like the Stanley 99E were "Made in England". There are very much different styles of knifes on the market, and it all started with fixed blade (non retractable) knifes like the Stanley 199 (still available) ind the 1930s or 40s. The model with the retractable blade, which you refer as the basic model, was introduced in the early 1960s.
    Stanley 199:

The fixed blade knifes have the advantage the blade is really fixed, it's not wobbling in any direction.
