I think a handy design change for a full-body spinner would be to hold the robot stationary and spin the universe round it. May need some higher capacity batteries, though.
So that's what it's like to be on the surface of a neutron star... Anyway, one thing I've found is that if you're driving a full body spinner and it starts to spin out of control like that, it's best to cut throttle and engage the brakes, then spin back up when you regain control.
Yea but we couldn't because the RC FET switch the drove the contactors had failed to a short on the very first it. So the spin was stuck on until the batteries ran out. :( We tested that RC Switch a lot before we used it but we never tested it while hitting heavy things, it is a mistake we will not make in the future.
I was thinking that just the other day. The only reason we have is because we have been so focused on making it more reliable, that it didn't even enter our consciousness until after the season.
Good point and there were at least 2 of the 7 batteries that were opened and not in the circuit and there were a number of shorts taking place draining the batteries far more than just the spin otherwise it would have been longer than 45 minutes. . We over-designed the batteries because I was paranoid of having LiPo's go catastrophic. I know next time we can have much less batteries and save some weight now that I know that the MaxAmp batteries really do outputs the power they claim they do. I have 3 in parallel and each one could outputs 975A continuous which means we could have used 2 and still been overkill. Here is the battery packs that we used www.maxamps.com/proddetail.php?prod=Lipo-6500-259-Pack
The shell is bolted to a pulley that has lower and upper tapered roller bearings. There is a powerful ETEK MOTOR thay drives the pully with a double v belt design.
Sorry, I can't find it. Are you sure I had an Invader test? There are Megabyte and Gigabyte tests but I don't see an Invader. I will check my hard drive when I get a chance. If I find one I will upload it to TH-cam.
@mladenik I might be misremembering, I thought I remembered seeing a video of Invader driving around some concrete area near trees. It was mixed in with your playlist of robot related videos. I might just be going nuts and remembering something that doesn't exist lol. Thanks for responding John, and I look forward to seeing more Gigabyte next season!
@@derincattelane43 Invader does look a lot like Megabyte and Gigabyte with a different color shell. Amazingly we got some complaints about the "safter" of us testing our robots from Arm Chair Builders(Male Karens) Thanks for being a fan!.
Well at least the camera wasn't spinning in constant circles... initially
7:45 to go directly to the start of the fight.

You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby right round round round
I think this is a deleted scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey...
I heard the doctor who theme fade in when watching this...
Now imagine if that GoPro was the ONLY way of knowing where your robot was going....
I haven't met him literally or in person, but I imagine he's just as cute as Gigabyte....
7:45 (Do yourself a favor)
holy shit am I dizzy...
I feel sorry for anyone with epilepsy...

VestedUTuber how long did this last for?
@@danielphilpott4308 4 hours believe it or not
Awesome robot. Sad it didn't make it past this...
This was an awesome fight shame you guys didn't get to go further :)
you should do this with gigabyte

No offense but I found it hilarious when invader started spinning out of control I called it "the pinball of death"
45 minutes of battery life may be unnecessary.

Thanks, Lycan.
Are you planning on adding a go pro to Gigabyte for next season?
How fast did Invader's weapon spin? Just curious.

@@mladenik I see. Very interesting. Wish that Invader would've had just as much success as Gigabyte has had lately.
@@mladenik also, what was it's top speed?
Any Gigabyte like bots are amazing.
This is Gigabyte
I remember that there used to be a video on this channel showing Invader being tested. Do you know where that video went?

Where's the other 2 hrs? XD
Yknow i would say that vector skidding is cool but we wouldnt get this if you used that.
