Hello, idk if you still need help with this but. After following this video, I managed to change my primary email and erase my old one. After you confirm you new email address, click the Account ownership and control on the bottom options.
It will show you the two email address and you can switch which will be your primary email. After switching to your new email, you can remove the old email.
