EDIT!! I do Realize that i need to recirculate the coolant bypass and not just cap it off like i did in the video, thanks to my viewers I corrected this shortly after the video.

How have the headers held up over the past couple of years?
@@gregfasanello7695 I had them on for a year before i sold the car, but they were still doing great. no leaks or strange rattles. Make sure you do your motor mounts while you're in there if you haven't done them yet. Mine were toast.
@San Diego yeah, but surprisingly not too bad at all. I knew the mounts were bad but didn’t realize how bad until I took them apart.
Once you begin adding mods it almost becomes an addiction as you feel the power gains. ❤️ my ls1!!! 🚦🏎🏁
Speed Razer absolutely!
Great video! I did all those mods but by watching different t videos & stuff. You included all those mids in one video! I also went with the non-egr header but I didn't like it cause I didn't want to tune out the emissions. I'm going to an egr header with kooker dual exhaust. THUMBS UP GOOD JOB!
Nice Camaro
Great video man! I am glad you did a video about it! I was thinking about doing the free mod video... Keep it up!
Thanks man! Nice TA too btw.
Great vid! 4th's need more diy air intake mods. I need to construct a flexible air intake spoiler underneath for the 93/97 bird, any 💡?
Hey bro love it!!! Keep it coming!!
Dam bro I went with the same headers for my bird with a SLP loud mouth sounds beast . Mines auto though I'm running a beefed up tranny with a 3600ss YANK with 3.73s . I want the same rear like yours that's a good one I heard
Thanks man, yeah the Moser rear is a huge plus with these cars. I have been thrashing on it and haven't broke it yet and I probably wont!
Very good video appreciate it
What year is your car?
Love this video!congratulations Good job!
The 96 SS had the air box on top of the intake manifold fed directly from the hood scoop. Not sure which accomplishes a better job, but that design on the later LS platform models does appear like it would be incredibly restrictive.
Mark Teague I agree. I can’t say whether I gained anything from feeding air from under front the front but it seemed like the more logical way to go to me.
My 01 Z28 has the square K&N. Can I replace it directly for the SLP without having to tune it
Tuning wouldn't be necessary
@@OrangeSpeedTV thanks a bunch. I have car listed on FB for sale and I would much rather it have the SLP on it vs the K&N.
I don't understand how the factory air box is supposidly restrictive by the friction of those inner fins. When the engine sucks air into the air intake, the airbox is initially under a small amount of vacuum then velocity aids the air into the inlet. Those little plastic fins are there to dampen frequencies caused by the intake way back from the intake valves. They have diffrent design to attenuate intake sounds and reverberation in many diffrent car companies. One thing for sure that is restrictive it's the throttle body size however that was chosen and the computer adds the right amount of fuel to keep fue/air ratio balanced. In other words, a bigger throttle body and bigger inlet pipes might need a reprogrammed CPU. I am amazed by the fact that GM have a limit bump on the throttle valve limiter. Makes me think that it was added to pass emissions tests to sell the car knowing that they could easilly leak in the community how to gain HP by shaving it off after. However, it might be there also to have better fuel economy numbers that this car boast from factory. 28mpg? And later you could shave it if you wish.
Also, isn't the radiator shrowd there to isolate the heat from the radiator from the air coming in the engine? A plastic part is not that effective at this mind you. Reflective tape would be best applied on the outside on the side of the radiator. The flex pipe from the air box to the throttle body is perfectly fine and probably best. The channels inside the pipe build up air and cushions the new air under high velocity coming in meaning it becomes a free flowing area free from surface friction plus the pipe is flexible which is a plus. A smooth pipe will cause more surface friction but in this case it might not matter since the throttle body is the deciding factor for how much air is passing in and even more deciding factor is the piston coming down and valve timing of course. Usually a free mod on most cars to gain power is advancing timing. Do keep in mind if your adding headers and a bigger exaust system you would gain by having a bigger throttle body, inlet pipes and filter box ports possibly new cam shafts and a CPU reprogram.
Valid points, I actually have not even removed the bump stop on the throttle body yet. I will be doing this when she comes out of winter hibernation. As for the Air Lid, There were cars that came with the SLP air lids as a factory option as you probably know, so i'm not trying to make something its not, I really just put it on the aesthetics more than a HP gain.
Steven Arseneault it is an LS6 intake/TB.. I just have not checked if it still has the bump stop.
your correct the fins are to dampen sound, they do channel some air for flow. So removing the fins is simply for a few decibals sound effect when you get on it. However the original rubber flex tube because of the ripple in it are also made to disrupt the airflow so you wont hear a sucking sound of air. A smoother tube from airbox to engine is better for airflow, if the correct kit is purchased and not modded your chances of getting a dash light are slimmer than if you try to mod the mod. The simple air intake mods out there are fine and designed to be added with out much fanfare and you dont need to worry about timing etc. if thats all your adding and a performance exhaust. Most issues come from installation errors or modding of the mod. Anytime you make an engine breath better it will increase you MPG and performance. The air filter mods out there with a stock exhaust ot flowmaster systems cat back, will usually see true gains of about maybe if your lucky 8hp. So you will not even notice that harldy. puting a set of true duals on if you want to experience a performance gain is where I would spend my money first.
Im not sure where you got all that info at but my uncle is a retired Engineer for Gm and used to design the intakes on every GM vehicle for 32 years and this came from him awhile back we chatted about this same topic. There are jsut too many regulations for street use so sometimes put the vehicle out there according to govt. standards and let the owners mod them to their liking
Bob Stark Ha. I made a logical assumption about why GM would of designed the throttle body and pipes that way. Government regulations have been playing with a car's performance to reduce emmissions and noise since the 80's so it's been known for a d0few decades. It's no suprise that they were doing it in the 2000's. Companies like Hennesey on the other hand.... opposite end of the spectrum.
Nice video
Does removing the screen on the mass air flow sensor trigger the check engine light
no, it does not.
You need to check/do the throttle stop mod. I did it on mine and had to grind a shit load off of the throttlke stop before the throttle blades actually opened all the way. You need to read the ohms at the TPS when you grind on the throttle stop. Look up the mod (throttle stop mod) or (bump stop mod) and it will tell you what the TPS should be reading at WOT. Don't go past that or it can through a code. I have a 2002 ws6 Trans Am 6 speed. I've seen tons of guys do a ton of work to their car and even I look their throttle isn't e th opening up all the way. Also after doing all the free mods you should reset the computer. Unplug battery, do mods, reconnect battery and run it for awhile then go back and reset it again. The throttle stop mod will give you the best performance gain because you won't be running around at 80% throttle. I with I could post pictures just to show how much I had to grind off of mine, and don't thing that your TB is any different. They were all cast the same.
Great Information. Thanks, I will definitely check this out.
OrangeSpeedTV I showed mine to a guy the other day that wanted to know why I was running so fast with free mods and full exhaust only. My bump stop is about half ground off before it fully opened and actually read WOT by the ohms on the multimeter. He checked his car and it's the same way. I'll have to check and see if I can find the write up on it or at least what ohms it should read at the TPS. You have to measure it by the TPS signal to make sure it's opening all the way. Just make sure you don't grind too much off the throttle stop or it will at the least throw a code or at worst run weird. Likely it would just throw a code. If you do grind too much just put a thin layer of JB weld on it and let it cure and then grind the JB down to size until it reads write. It won't be ideal but it would take alot of full throttle passes before you should leave a mark in the JB weld. Think about how many fast LS1s are running around with factory ported and polished throttle bodies that are only opening 80-85%. That's when I noticed mine when i was done hogged mine out and polished it to a mirror shine and I reinstalled it and turned the throttle by hand and saw it hit the stop way before the blades were flat. I'm an OCD gunsmith that's been finding ways to free up HP since I was 15 and had my stock 219,000 mile 1989 formula firebird with a tpi 305 running 14.2s with 3.42 gears and a 700r4 with a factory stall. That was through factory manifolds too on street tires. 14.2s was my wall but I ran them every time I made a pass unless I hot lapped it and got the transmission hot. 14.2s for a stock TPI was amazing to everyone that saw it. They were digging all around looking for a dry nitrous kit. All I had was about 250lbs worth of competition 12s in a giant, heavy ass box that took up the entire rear trunk area and free mods and I cut the catalytic converter off and replaced it with a glass pack with a turn out like a circle track car. It was loud but it won against alot of mustangs and other 3rd gens that had alot more money in their cars. My 02ws6 is just a factory freak even before I fixed the throttle. I was running 12.8s on its first time out back in 2012 when I bought it box stock in mint condition with 33k miles on it. Fully loaded leather and electric everything. Lol, running 2.0 60ft times with Cooper street tires and still ran 12.8s until I started doing free mods. Now I'm in mid to high 10s (usually 10.6 or a 10.7 at 125mph) but it's got a shot on it with no tune so the shot ain't big. Still on the original factory 10 bolt and dried out and rotten suspension bushings too
Thank you, i`ll be back.
I think you're supposed to recirculate the coolant when doing the TB bypass.
jjrock5 I believe you are right. I realized that after I did his, however it's been like that all summer now and I've had no issues. I may change it at some point.
Awesome video man. Very informative and clear of how and why.
Nathan Robins thanks man! Glad I can be of help.
Them caps u have are going to dry out and leak better off getting brass hose barb and plugging hoses into each other
@@DanielA23Here is a video I just watched concerning what you both are discussing. th-cam.com/video/LGi-kCjSDgs/w-d-xo.html
Good job man
I seen those headers for my c5 corvette did they add any power?
Yes! I could definitely feel power gains from these, they really open up the sound and potential the LS1 can have. good price too.
Gonna try this out on my 98 Camaro ss do you have any other mod you did to your car that I should try on mine? IDC if it’s gonna cost some money
Exhaust really opens these cars up. If you wanna spend some Money, gears are also a good investment. If your running a T56, a 4.10 ratio is great. If you have an auto, I would prob do 3.55 or 3.73. Enjoy.
So you cut the a/c shroud off meaning now it’s not gonna force the air thru the a/c and rad and make your fans work harder. Also your gonna pull heat up from the radiator right into the air box
The rest is good work tho
The fans working harder sounds a bit ridiculous, but i can understand your point of hot air from the radiator. I am currently running a 165 tstat in my car, so it already runs considerably cool. Also, they do make ducting that slides down behind the radiator (they makes these in plastic and steel) that help duct the air from underneath the car, rather than from the grill and hotter radiator air. I intended to purchase the ducting, but still haven't yet. over a year later and it still runs great. last run at the track i ran a 12.73 at 110mph with a low rpm launch, all stock other than exhaust and rearend.
Slides behind it or infront of it. That’s boxed extension setup? I’ve seen it looks pretty sweet. Good thing about these cars is the ram air is functional
Instead of paying for an slp air lid, couldn't you grind out the baffles on the stock air lid?
SBC_JAKE_96 I guess you could, but the slp air lid also illuminates the rubber boot between the mass air flow sensor and the box too giving it more flow. It was only $100 I didn’t mind paying that for the looks and the upgrade.
The fins are mostly for sound deadening by disreupting air flow. So you could but not the same result as the video for any hp gains
I miss the days of the simple mods my c5 modded so much nothing else for me to do.
billy mensch yup.. time to either sell it and start over or just enjoy it!
Does it actually run cooler?
Sky Reid as far as the overall engine temperature, no. Removing the TB cooler I believe most help allow a cooler air into the engine on colder days rather than a steady coolant temperature. It's easy to do so I figured why not. The SLP air lid seemed to help a bit tho.
You need the lower slp ducting for this to be a ok mod.. if not all you did was add a hot air intake. The air box gets air forced up form the grill intakes... stock setup Is way better than this mod. Just saying I have a 02 z28 and have had good results in CA weather.
I wouldnt do any of these mods but thats just me.
Ok
