Brennan Ross, I heartily agree. Donna is long overdue for her own solo album. If and when she finally records one, I hope she’ll put down a dolly track or two…at the very least, Before the Parade Passes By.
She is a fabulous actress/singer. I hope someone is coming up with a new role for her. Her performance in this show was just marvelous! I have known her for a while - won’t say how long, and she is as gracious, kind and down to earth as she is supremely talented. A lovable woman. We are blessed with her.
I've been fortunate to see Donna Murphy in the original production of Sondheim's Passion, as Vera in Pal Joey (Huntington Theatre, Boston) as Ruth in Wonderful Town and as Lotte Lenya in the Alfred Uhry play-with-Kurt-Weill-songs Love/Musik (plus the bootleg video of Hello, Dolly! briefly on TH-cam), and she really is that rarest of rare things, a fantastic singing actor. Each character so specific. Great at intense drama, great at comedy, and such a stylish singer!
Sad I never saw her in this role. I went when it was Bernadette. Donna seems undoubtedly the best between the three ladies. The inflection and humor is unmatched!
I was lucky enough to see DM, yes Bette was legionary, but Murphy was amazing, and the audience went damn near crazy , I've rarely seen such an ovation outside of the opera.
You are correct, there was a video of Donna Murphy doing the Hello Dolly number. It was up on TH-cam for a while and then it simply disappeared. What happened?? I loved her in the part, and saw Bette Midler who was fantastic. But Donna Murphy is a true Broadway great.
Wish there was a cast album with Donna Murphy. HANDS DOWN the best Dolly since the Broadway revival.

I hope soon maybe there’s a Kennedy Center production with Murphy in the lead again, and it’s filmed for posterity.
From your fingertips to gods ears.

I distinctly remember there was a video of this song.
