      rotten leaves turn into a weird form of "mud", that doesn't really dry out in cold because the non-rotten leaves on top hold the water there. Then they freeze and become sheets of ice which the leaves make it layer on top of each other. Really easy to slip on that, and if you do, then you fall in the rotten leaf muck.

Even while my marriage was failing, I wasn’t going through it alone, because she was experiencing her own version of the same event.

    "Some people like dating, but we don't"....yep, that pretty much sums up the difference betweem married people and those who hate the idea of marriage. I've been married for 23 years now and I agree, dating sucks. I'd much rather be with a man I know (and love). But people who question the wisdom of getting married almost always bring up being tethered to one person for the rest of their lives *as if that's a bad thing!* Thing is, to me that's one of the biggest perks. 😉

      Why marry? Just live together

    • @marjieyoung9570
      @marjieyoung9570 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KARTIKEYA007 Marriage is a public declaration before God and the rest of the world of our permanent commitment to each other. It is essentially a binding contract. People who live together don't typically have that same contract unless they have lived together for more than a certain amount of time and have a common law marriage. In which case they still have to get a divorce if they want to split up so they might as well have gotten married in the first place. Getting married is just sealing the deal and showing the world you and your spouse are one unit now. This is important legally also since the spouse is considered the next of kin. I got married because I couldn't imagine my life without my husband, nor do I want to. Marriage is a gift from God, not a prison.

    • @KARTIKEYA007

      @@marjieyoung9570 Ok there is so much wrong with what you have said
      1. First of all, why would god be interested if i get married or not? god is not a gossiping teenage friend lol. Why would god care if i married if i am perfectly happy being single?
      2. Why need a "contract"? all marriage does is bring the government into your marriage and in case of a divorce the man basically have to give his life savings away to the woman. Why make it so hard to separate? why have the government involved anyway?
      3. Why is it so important to show the world your personal things? (marriage is a personal decision). Do you show the world what you ate for breakfast or when u went to toilet or how u shower? point is, this reason is flawed since there is no need to show the world anything.
      4. Again, if you couldn't imagine your life without your man, why didn't you both just LIVED together? that way in case things don't work out that poor man won't get destroyed in the divorce courts.
      5. Marriage is obviously a prison especially for men. Imagine this, a married man can't do whatever he wants, he MUST fulfill certain responsibilities, there is a loss of freedom plus he can't leave because he will get financially destroyed by the courts and probably will become broke.
      I ask you again, how is any of this good for the man?

Also some personal decisions deserve to be known, personal doesn’t mean don’t tell, it means choose what it means to you. I think commitment is a kind of freedom. It creates an area you can play freely in, with set rules and limits, where you know what is okay and what is not okay, and that it's good to be yourself in that space. Too much freedom can be super scary and destabilizing, so maybe people like marriage because it gives freedom within those defined boundaries. I think that's why I would be attracted by it.

      yes! I find it super weird that boyfriend can encompass anything from tweens dating for a few days to committed partners who have lived together for decades. I was relieved when I could start referring to my partner as my fiance when we got engaged, and I don't even like that term either

    I love being married! I can definitely see a bad marriage being terrible, and even a so-so marriage being wearing after a while. But a good marriage really is a gift. I love having a true partner to face life with.
    I do think that people have different definitions of what "being married" means. To me, you don't have to be legally married if you'd rather not for some reason. But I do think you have to have some kind of formal commitment. And for me personally, if I wanted to be married to someone (as I am), I'd need a good reason for not going ahead and filing a marriage license. It is the much shorter and easier way to accomplish a lot of legal stuff, like next-of-kin stuff.

    So I have been married for over 10 years. When I first met my wife she didn't like me very much, but I eventually got her to talk to me and we went on dates. Her parent's opinion was we should get married right away before we move in together and mine was to move in first and see how we can handle each other's personal space. We choose to move in and get married later. We found out there was a big difference between visiting someone and living with someone. I'm not saying that everyone should do what we did, but you have to tolerate every little thing your partner does, accept it, and working on bettering each other if want it to work. We ran into so many bumps in the road and it got so bad I had to decide if I wanted to walk away because there was nothing tying me down to my wife at the time. I made the decision a long time ago that I wanted to spend my life with my wife and she also decided the same thing. As for weddings, they are expensive and after going through it once, I would never recommend it when you can go to a judge for less than $100 and spend money on the reception. If you want to make your wife and her family happy then those are answers you will have to come up with. I have no regrets. It's not just for tradition, it was for taking my vows and I will forever honor them.

    A lot of this is why its awesome to have a long term partner, you don't have to marry someone to have all of these benefits. If you have a good will most of the legal reasons are covered too. Don't feel like you have to get married just because its something 'that everyone does' - everyone is running their own race, don't compare yourself to others.

    I’ve been married in the past and I love the idea of it. The reality for many married couples as you get old is that when one spouse passes, they come hard after the living for the expenses. My mom lost everything her and my dad worked for. There are couples actually divorcing in the middle of healthcare crisis so that they don’t loose everything they’ve worked for their whole lives and leave the other destitute. Sad.

    I dunno. Marriage strikes me like a tri-hard. Lookit! We love each other AND HAVE PROOF! My partner of 19 years and I had the marriage convo years ago and agreed that our life actions spoke more than a piece of paper. But we live and work in an artist environment so never felt any kinda pull to do the expected ‘cause we don’t really experience the expected. AND (importantly here) we don’t hold those married in any contempt; I just came here ‘cause I was genuinely curious about the draw of marriage, but still don’t see it.

    I'm like genuinely confused by the concept of marriage in modern times. Like the legal reasons, sure, but it really doesn't seem like that's the main reason people get married (also side note why does the government want people to be married so badly that they give you free money for it?). Most of these things were just about being in a long term relationship, but I feel like marriage itself is a meaningless construct that people only want to take part in because they're told that's what they should want?
    The only other think I considered is that having a different word for boy/girlfriends and spouses conveys a level of seriousness to people in your social circle? You could really just call someone your spouse without doing the whole legal rigamarole though and it wouldn't make a difference.

    • @MalinaImport
      @MalinaImport 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1000%. i agree wholeheartedly. such a huge shame that my former partner sees it differently.. the level of commitment and 'seriousness' of the relationship would rise, in her words. i honestly don't see how. nothing would change for me. my love towards the person is not dictated by anything than my desire to be together and for that i do not need the government's involvement
