What an awesome father and son moment captured for all time. The father learning the depths of his ability to give, and the son learning the depths of his inner strength. A truly moving and beautiful moment where each taught the other how to be better at being human.
I’ve been on this planet 46 years. Bass fishing is my passion. Catching a musky is a dream come true for me. This kid made my day and possibly the rest of his life. Just an FYI,I have never caught a musky in all my years fishing. Mille lacs lake is on my bucket list for smallmouth and hopefully a giant musky. Great job dad and good job kiddo for having one of the most amazing experiences of your life at a very young age. It’s gonna be tough to beat for sure. GOOD LUCK!!,
David, I don't know if you realize it or not, but you've caught a state record. We true muskie guys know that you don't need to kill an amazing fish to hold a title. Good for you for wanting that fish to live and grow. It is great to see that the future of our passion is in good hands. You are a true sportsman and your father has taught you well. Fantastic work and an unbelievable fish!
Just wanted to say that your son is 8 years of age and his first Muskie is a 57 inch giant and guess what... I HAVEN'T GOTTEN JACK SHIT MAN, HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This made me think of growing up without a dad to make experiences like this. You both are blessed. Thanks for sharing. Was a great watch. And good job!
As an avid Muskie Angler and introducing my kids to the sport I cannot help but get goosebumps and emotional when I see a father and son team up to land a giant fish. I only hope one day my children and me can experience a giant fish like this. I want nothing more in the sport of fishing to see my kids catch fish. Far more rewarding than catching your own!! Great job Dad and son!
I’ve seen this a million times and have probably already commented but man every time I watch this I’m smiling ear to ear. What a record fish. Best part is when the little one says I can’t do it! And dad sternly says YES YOU CAN! You both should be very proud
Little David's face was glowing. How wonderful this moment was captured on video to be relived and shared, Dad thanks for sharing this with the world. All dads everywhere this is how it's done.
What a patient Dad, there’s no way I woulda let my kid possibly lose that fish. I can only wish to become this patient and giving. Hats off to the both of you!
That's a moment that both of you will share for your entire lives, and never forget. Awesome that you guys let the fish live to see another day. Awesome job guys.
I watch about 15 fishing related videos a day on TH-cam, I have been doing this for the past 5 years or so. This is the best video I have seen here so far! absolutely epic!
That was truly incredible on so many levels. Obviously that monster fish, but on a deeper level, the father-son experience. Absolutely heartwarming. I think someone was chopping onions while I watched.
I’m so impressed with how well he listened in that kind of environment. Even after netting the fish- he was always on the next step- pliers, gloves, kid never missed a beat. Two thumbs up Dad of the year.
This video is amazing!!! I'm just getting back into fishing after being away for 20+ years. I have a 9 & 7 year old that I hope to have experiences like this with in the future! These are the memories that'll stay with you forever.
I have twin 8 yr old a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old now. These moments right here are the ones I look forward to as a fishing father. I'm glad I was able to see this video.
That was awesome! I loved how the dad was so adamant about letting the kid do everything. What a memory to have as a child. Great work and awesome muskie!!!
This is truly and farther and son moment well done you 2 keep up the good team work my friends. My son is 5 and we caught a pike last weekend he's a little nervous around the fish but he sure loves to fish I can't wait to have this experience with my son! Cheers Erik...
My buddy and I were fishing walleye on the St. Lawrence river near Cornwall Ont. Second fish on was a 5lb bass. As I reeled in, a 50lb Muskie swallowed that bass like it was a small perch. GAME ON! 10 test line, what an hour, What a catch, what an evening.
Wow. Just wow. That is an incredible catch. At 8, he has a catch many fishermen (including myself) can only dream of. Well done! And it's great to see him release it. My personal best is 40, although I've had ones on the line bigger than that. Well done, David!
Man this video got me emotional! I had a tear to my eye, what an amazing experience that will stay in his mind forever. You two really handled it perfectly good job
Most dad's spend a lifetime trying to get moments like this with their children. You sir have captured it on film to live on in eternity. If only you could bottle that feeling...
I love this so much, brings me right back to when I got my first musky at 10 after 3 years of trying and it was the top of my fish bucket list musky, marlin, and tarpon, there is no feeling more awesome than landing a fish like that as a kid
Wow a lot of people could learn a lesson from this awesome young guy, when he said he wants it to grow bigger and not kill it.really loved this film me and my boy go fishing a lot but we don't have fish like that in England we catch pike instead.
i live in is real and i was born in austrailia i wanted to fish all day it was some of the best days of my life then my parents wanted to move to israel... theres no fishing spots anywhere it sucks
right? I'm wondering why it was even a question on what to do with the fish... never met someone who eats muskie, and unless for food there is ZERO reason to keep muskie, if you want it mounted, get measurements and tell the taxidermist
This video made my day! David, you did great! I can tell you have one hell of a father. My dad would've ripped that pole out of my hand and than told everyone "look at the Muskie I caught ". You guys make a great team!
Wow what an amazing big Musky!!! Your son seems so proud and happy, that's awesome! I think he will remember these moments during his whole life! right on!
This brings tears to my eyes as I remember doing this with my father. Now my father is alive and well and I should not be such the baby but by far moments like these are my favorite memories
"I'm never gonna" I know this was 3 years ago but this is my favorite video on youtube. I want my first muskie so bad and you dadded it up so perfect. Incredible vid guys
Very cool of the Dad letting his son reel in the fish and ultimately deciding the kid whether or not it would be caught..I'm sure both of them will never forget that day and smile every time they think of it..I'm glad I have moments of that also with my Dad..beats being successful jobwise, wealthy, or other false American dreams..great job both of you :-)!
Great video! I'll never forget the first big fish I caught. Landed an 18-pound steelhead at six years old in Illinois during the seasonal run (Not sure what the length was). We got to the spot at five in the morning, and it was a good three hours until any of us got a bite, it was a horribly long wait. Once I felt the tug though, man it made the fight, the feel, the wait, so very worth it. Beat my brothers fish by two pounds, he was jealous but still happy for me. Felt horrible letting my Dad kill it, was such a beautiful fish. Silver as a dime and she was full of eggs too! This kid has the perfect mindset when it comes to fish, let em grow bigger for the next guy!
Way to go young man and dad !! You are a really impressive family , to turn back a monster like that was doing nothing less than allowing another father and son to have an awesome memory, you both should be very proud of yourselves . I know I am , tight lines on a side note dad great job you raised a fantastic young man .👍👍
Watching this just made my day sooo much better.. Way to go dad! Im a passionate fly fisherman and i have a son "in the making". delivery at christmas time.. This is what i hope to get to do with my son when he gets old enough! Tell your son that he is the coolest kid i have ever seen! Tight lines. :-)
Hey, thank you so much! I had David read your post and he got a big smile on his face. Wishing you many blessings with your new son, before you know it you will be fishing with him, so cherish every toddler moment. Time has a way of passing very quickly! P.S. I see you have a guitar, I'm a drummer, love it!
Yeah time has never really been a good friend of mine.. :-) have been playing guitar for 18 years now and still loving it just as much as in the beginning.. Theres just something about playing an instrument isnt there? hypnotic and healing in a strange kind of way.. My wife always laughs as i tell her where getting a heavy metal loving son with the need to fly fish.. :-D
Great dad. I have one. Just got back from a 7 day fishing trip in Minnesota, loved every second. Love you dad if you ever read this, I don’t think I’ll be here much longer. Love you all
The best part is when the son said " I can't do it " and the father just says... " yes you can! " and he did.. lesson learned there maybe more about fishing.
Amazing! - what fishing is all about, chuffed son and even prouder father. I entered my eldest daughter for a small match at a local lake when she was 12 - her against 17 boys, and she won. I know how you're feeling!! Well done both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome job as a father.. didn’t yell at your son or get uptight in a stressful situation. My dad would have turned this into a very unhappy, stressful situation where I did nothing but screw up. You did the opposite. Great work.
"You don't wanna kill it do ya?"
"No I want it to grow bigger, I don't want anyone to kill it."
Man is raising that kid right
@Ian Lundquist shut up

Just about everyone who fishes for Muskies practices catch and release

The best part is when the son said " I can't do it " and the father just says... " yes you can! " and he did.. lesson learned there maybe more about fishing.
Amazing! - what fishing is all about, chuffed son and even prouder father.
I entered my eldest daughter for a small match at a local lake when she was 12 - her against 17 boys, and she won. I know how you're feeling!!

Nice job, David! When I was your age my dad took me Chinook salmon fishing, and some guys in a passing boat cheered me on as I reeled in a 42" male. It was exhausting, haha. Good for you. Awesome picture of you with that trophy fish.
Great job young man I have never caught one that big before. Special times with your Dad you should never forget. ❤
Sure was!
You know it's a big Musky when the thing barely fits in a MUSKY net! Awesome fish, priceless moment.
That is some Awesome Father and son fishing!! That was a monster muskie!
Awesome job as a father.. didn’t yell at your son or get uptight in a stressful situation. My dad would have turned this into a very unhappy, stressful situation where I did nothing but screw up. You did the opposite. Great work.
What an awesome experience and an unbelievable fish. Congrats to you both. Love seeing videos like this!!!!
