Muskie #2 making New Jersey proud. Easily a state record level fish. NJ may not be Wisconsin or Minnesota when it comes to muskies but we certainly got em!

When I was a kid growing up in Wisconsin MY family went to Upper Buckatobin lake for vacation. It's one of the best musky lakes in the US. The Man in cabin 4 woke the 3 other cabins up at 330am to show us the 45" musky he caught. the thing is, he didn't want to show the fish off as much as he wanted to show us the teeth marks it's had on it back. What ever bit it looked like it was twice the size by the marks left. Dudes name was Vern Joelists. when it came to Musky fishing he was a SAVAGE. He told us all his life will be and always has been to catch the World Record Musky and now knew where to find it. I'm pretty sure I saw it one day resting on the floor of a 40' crystal clear spring that fed both lakes. It was massive. It's the only time I felt a fish had BDE. Big Dick Energy.

I'm tellin' ya there are Muskies out there well over 5' - had a very nice walleye on while shore fishing a rock ledge on an Ontario canoe trip. The walleye nearly surfaced (no more than 6" below surface) when it suddenly caught its second wind and dove with everything it had - I hadn't seen it until this point but an enornous musky became visable, seemingly out of nowhere, and went after my walleye. Within about 3 or 4 seconds, I felt a very hard tug right before my 14lb test snapped. I knew that humongous musky just had a nearly 30" walleye for lunch.
I tried every lure/bait I had and covered the area thoroughly for the following day or so but was unable to catch another glimpse of that monster....really wish I could recall the name of that lake in SE Ontario

I have encountered one monster musky. It nipped at my lure and followed it right up to the boat. My first ridiculous thought was that it was a shark, because I have seen plenty of 50"+ muskies and this thing was in a different ballpark. It was HUGE! I actually felt some fear lol. I swear it was almost 6 feet long. It looked right up at me with an eye the size of a silver dollar and then swam off slowly. I had heard the expression "weak in the knees" before but I never understood it until that moment. My knees were so wobbly I almost fell down trying to take another cast at it.

If you listen to Indian legends they speak of great fish. I tend to listen to their tales because they live in that environment. The natives see and hear things that we never do.

I've got video from the 1990's of a MASSIVE Musky that was hunting US...we were in this small bay fishing a creek mouth for walleye in a canoe when my buddy Tom in the front said he saw a giant fish in the water. I got the camera out and proceeded to film what looks to be a 65-70"+ Musky in crystal clear shallow water that was checking US out. She actually raises her head, almost out of the water, about a foot from the canoe to get a good look at ME filming in the backseat of the canoe...We were on a Canadian wilderness lake in late May at the time. Fishing is closed for Musky where we were until July so it was just a wildlife moment for the ages...someday I'll download the 8mm footage into the digital age for all to see...it's truly breathtaking...selah

Nice fish! Hurt to watch the 2nd angler holding the fish's head out of the water, then going back and forth while attempting to "revive" the fish, which drowns the fish. Only move a fish forward, if anything, or use the current for that effect.

When I was a kid in the '70's my Grandpa would take my brother and I Musky and Walleye fishing every summer in the Kawartha Lakes in Ontario. His favourite lake was Stoney Lake where he would catch Walleye for the table and Musky just for the fun of it. We saw some stupid big Musky. Often the Musky would grab a Walleye while you were reeling it in and inhale it so deeply it couldn't or wouldn't let it go.

Musky. Seems to behave like an overgrown pike on sedatives. Pike was well known to jump a good distance ahead of the angler. A behavior found all too often to be the reason for the fish unhooking itself. However, that was a good 2 decades after WW2, when predatory fish still had to be cunning, and skillfully look after itself in order make it as a species in the clever angler's northern world.
