Important note: You can learn the mirror's purpose via a note in Shadowhearts hidey hole that'll let you skip the religion and arcana check, *however* on my playthrough it didn't give me the Stelamane message on any of the options so I had to reload and do the arcana check and then I got it
Edit: after doing it in patch 6 I could read the note and get the stelamane line. Also I could retry giving up a memory as often as it needed to get the +2 memory
Thanks for that. I was stumped on my second playthrough why the option to identify wasnt there and I had in fact gone to the night orchid cave first. I don't know how the RNG goes but I got stuck with laezel never getting a +2 but getting the stelmane message every time I passed the prayer check and that's the one character that got no benefit from CHR for me. Had to run another character through mirror then back to laezel. Could have been coincidence but it was 7 or 8 times in a row
Unfortunately for me the religion check is still there but not arcana check

@@ltraltier6009 first either succeed the arcana check or read the note in sharts hideout, you should have an option to pray and a religion check. Pray first till you get the stelamane message then you can do the religion check for +2 stats

Omg thank you. I had a hard time trying to figure out the mirror. I will try this on my next play through
Tips. Make a human bard hireling. then you can get +14 religion skill. whit bard inspiration. and more. I have +5 int, 1d8 bardic , +1 ring , religon +4, religion expertise + fox cunning or guidance 1d4. total bonus 15-22. 🙂 you can make 2-3 hireling like this and do this in 1-2-3. cost 300g you can steal back so free. Maybee less time then save/load.
Looks like you can get the plus 2 bonus for all in your party too if you have them all pass the religion check
I haven't been able to get it to work on more than one character. It went off just like in the video with my Tav, but Wyll is on his 7th try and no go
The religion check that is the alternative to arcana is a lower DC (20, not the prayer) but I didn't manage to get the +1 with it (tried 6 times for 3 companions), and after reloaded and passing with the arcana check I got it on the first try (twice in a row), not sure if it's indicative or not.
I don't have arcana as an option, I only have Religion (Prayer) option and also sacrifice memory without a dice roll check
If you killed the lady from the room before and didn't let her go you won't get arcana. If you killed her it only offers religion. Just found out myself through different save files.
I got stuck on that too. You probably found the note in the cave that said what the mirror does so didn't need to pass the identify check

Failed the religion check and never got to even try the mirror. On my third playthrough on tactician, this 25 skillcheck is just as bullshit as trying to convince the second demon to help you during the raphael fight. Just to find out i can have hope banish him on turn 1 anyway.

This might seem an ignorant question... but what good does a +1 to charisma do?
Depending on what class you are and how you manage your stats, it can be very useful. For warlocks, bards, and sorcerers, it could make them do more damage. My sorcerer went from 17 CHA to 20 from the mirror of loss, then 22 from a hat in the magic store in lower city
@@riffgroove For me it lets me keep Smuggler's Ring (found on Act 1, before meeting Karlach, +2 sleight of hand +2 stealth, -1 to charisma) equipped.
My char has 10 charisma, and it goes to 9 with it, getting -1 to persuade and other stuff. So now I don't have to unequip it all the time before I talk to someone :-)
@dnthymamai From what I've found, Charisma has very little effect on game play.
.. when can influence anyone most of the time simply by making the right dialogue choices.
The amount of pluses to persuasion, intuition or intimidation you get from other sources makes your actual charisma score a non-issue
@@riffgrooveI mean unless you’re a bard warlock or paladin then your charisma effects damage from spells and attacks with certain weapons

There is a hidding roll each tiime you do gaze in to the mirror, when they mention gortach you get the 1+ charisma bonus
I tried it today and the arcana and religion choices disappeared, have only prayer in the first part...
This +3 only works whit one character? Per playthro?
Especially useful for Charisma based classes/characters like Bards, Paladins, Warlocks, and Sorcerers. :)

Yup.
I cannot examine it, because Arcana and Religion (to examine it) are not shown to me. Only "Gaze into the Mirror" and " Religion: Pray", the very 1st time I click it, with Shadowheart in my party. Also having explored everything and read every little note in the area.
EDIT: As the other comments are saying, the reason for that seems to be a particular note on the Night Orchid cave, which already explained how to mirror works.
MOREOVER, I received the +1 to Charisma!! (Save scumming, no need to pass any Arcana check!)
This mirror is so confusing... I don't have the Arcana or Religion options. My only options when I interact with it are Gaze and Leave. I was able to get the +1 Charisma bonus from the Stelmane response quickly, but no matter how many times I reload I couldn't get the +2 bonus until I gave up the Necromancy memory, meaning I lost the Create Undead spell from the Necromancy of Thay book. I still got the +2 bonus on my main character but I can't seem to get it for my companions, just the +1 Charisma.
Amazing I had no idea - and I finished the game once.
Tbh I had more difficulties than most in finishing the game - I can see I had no optimised builds and I was just levelling up the base builds
You do not need to multi class at all to destroy the game. A fully level sorcerer is one of the most OP classes in the game.

One thing important is that it won't let you exceed the maximum which for me was 24. So if you're already at 22 and tried to get the 1 and 2, your 1st buff will get replace by the 2nd buff instead of getting all of them.

Anybody else only get the option to pray, no arcana or other religion check?
The arcana check is the first time you speak with the mirror act 2 or 3 only to understand it, then you can do 5 times gaze to try to get the gortach line(1+cha) then 2 pray(religion) to get the 2+ ( you can get the gorrach line there also)
The mirror keeps telling me it has no interest in me after I try to offer up a memory. I get the curse but no boon. Any tips?

I ve just finished the game after 400hrs, with all side quest. And, I still want more with this game !!!
Took 100 hrs for first play through, intentionally left some quests unplayed for next play through, going to approach each act slightly different this 2nd time, and I decided to do durge, I’m probably going to just go full evil this time and likely piss all my companions off. I don’t like save scumming, I try to just play through and let it play out how the RNG gods decide. This is the first game for me in a while (maybe since The Witcher 3) that I’ve gotten this much enjoyment out of and actually looking forward to replaying and doing things again. I can not get enough of it!
@@joeracer302 More we try to save characters, more the story is huge, so wide. For the second try, I think I will try to not kill : Ketheric, Orin and kortach... Because at the end the absolute said : " we delivered him by killing one of 3 stone's owner".... The more funny zone was the Raphael s house, and the fight against him !

Not true. I am running a paladin and I got it by giving up intelligence, my dump stat.

even if the brother has +1 charisma, when you select the option to pray, you can raise the charisma to 24. this method is good for those who do not use charisma. but for companions it worked)

Well, you'll have +7 to your attack rolls if you cast a spell witht your charisma carisma modifier
I wanna try it with a Lifedrinker Spellblade Warlock. It’s a level 12 invocation for Warlocks that adds Charisma modifier to damage.

It seems you can pass the arcana check with any character, but for the +2 buff you have to pass the prayer check with the character you want to buff.
Passing the prayer check did not give me the option to buff another character - just the one that passed the check.
This is weird for me there was no toll option just the prayer option or look into the mirror and if I give up forbidden knowledge it gives 2 to what ever skill I want I never got the option for a plus 1 to charisma
Note: I did not get the option to do the arcana or wisdom check, but it still worked for me! Thank you for an amazing explanation of what to do here! Yay free attribute points!

I was able to get it to work for my Tav, but so far no one else after...
With this, I got to 24 Charisma.
The +3 charisma total here together with auntie hair it gives +4 at top of normal 20.
I somehow got Gortash line as the first so I didn't have to save scum even once.

thank you so much for this it was a great help! also guys for after you pass the religion check and select an option the voice que you want is that the mirror is interested in you then eventually there will be the choice of what stat you want to increase.
If you only get the religion check option and end up giving shar a part of you and get nothing in return(there's a chance) . You can still talk to it and give apart again and there's a chance you get something. Ex: I gave con, got nothing, did it again, gave necromancy, and got plus 4 to char.
So you can do this multiple times to try to roll the best so that you get the least taken away, but the most given.
Don't know if this helps or not, but yeah this was my experience
U mean plus 3 to charisma right cuz for me I didn’t have any of the checks exept prayer that did nothing but I had to give up a few memories and got plus 1 then did it again and gave up the forbidden knowledge and got another two points into something of my choice but never got 4 points I spent a full day on this lol
I think it’s only supposed to give +2, at least for me it only gave 2. I guess I did the checks in a different order but if this still works I’ll try in my next playthrough
Waste str dex cha con wis int decieve to get the gortach line on gaze mirror to (1+cha) just remember save 2(also can get the gortash line) for the pray to get the 2+ (just rest or dispell for all the -2) arcana check is just for understant it the first time.bonus are max 24
Is it just me ? I heard i should have passed both Arcana and Religion check, i was so afraid of this cause my party all have 8 Int only, but then when i arrived here, the only option they gave me was the DC20 religion check (Offer a prayer to the Mirror), thats it, i sacrificed Forbidden Knowledge, passed the religion check and get the +2 stat bonus while still had the Forbidden Knowledge.. I was just wondering tho, why i didnt get that Arcana Check and that other one Religion check ? Just out of curiosity ? Is it patched ?
Hey did you end up figuring this out? Same thing happened to me, just now, and idk what to do. Like you I didn’t have the Arcana option. Tbh all his responses look different from mine.. maybe it’s bc of a patch/update 🤔
@@BbknucklesThere is a note in Shadowheart’s hidden cave in the nearby room, which you must have read. Doing so removes the need to do the initial check in arcana or religion, which you would need to pass in order to gain the bonuses. So now the only check needed is the “religion: offer a prayer” one.
Shadowheart can increase. If you chose the dark path for her in act 2. She even has advantage on throw
Shadowhart can cheat: she can use disguise self
nice to know that you can disguise and trick the mirror. there is another spell to disguise team mates and there are disguise kits you can buy at the circus. @@krivdaa9627

Already tried, and didn't work.
At this point in the game the +1 charisma is useless since most speech checks are scripted but thanks anyway.
Arcana check seemed to work. The religion check fail with a few attempts
I gave up on this. It was confusing enough for me to not give a shit about it and still moved on whooping ass with the stats i had
So I can do this on every character except shadowheart? Like get the buff on my main char+ Laezel +Astarion+Gale

The mirror didn't give me the option to choose after I sacrificed the 2nd time with the prayer check, it just does stolen valor and gives me something random

@@Mitsurugi2424 i managed it by backing out of the conversation I think after the successful prayer roll? I could be wrong, it's been awhile. I just remembered I had to back out at some point. Skipping the dialog also glitches it out.
I did 5 stolen valor debuffs before it gave me the option to select a buff

BG3 is more like a game of a decade IMO. It's very rare something like this is released.
Act 2 goes by so quickly - just starting Act 3, and it seems like it might go by even more quickly than Act 2. 🤷♂
act 3 has a lot more to do then act 1 i have in act 3 for like 30hours now just because I really want to find as much as possible @@whoisj

Act 2 isn’t short, just nowhere near as long as Act 1.

Can't i iust re spec my character and then give them high INT/religion proficiency build then go back to my original spec build? Save scumming takes too much time and relies solely on rng

No it doesn't, it doesn't seem obvious when you do it but don't worry
To the 1+ charisma you need to get the gortach line, you can get it on gaze on the mirror or religion check, remember save 2 options for religion check to get the 2+bonus (just dont care for -2 just rest or dispell)
Is the first +1 always for charisma? Or we can chose to distribute that +1 to other stat?

There is a necklace that sets constitution to 23.

If you gotten that far in the game without that boost, then there's really no need to bother with it because the game is almost over anyway and you don't need it to finish the final battle. There's really nothing between that and the final battle anyway.
Man I hate not having intelligence. Im on my 60th attempt at trying to give this damn mirror a prayer
This is probably too late to be useful but, respec your characters. Give them high Intelligence and whatever other bonuses you can.
Once you do the Mirror, respec back to whatever you want them to be.

I got the +2 bonus in the first play through without any problems.
But now in my second play through, the mirror doesn’t offer me the options for the +2 buff and I can’t figure out why.
I found out when you offer up debuffs, meaning the options that curse you, you need to choose stats that you have a plus. Don’t choose dump stats.

He only got a +1 to charisma. You must be misreading the -2 charisma he was sufferring because of the curse.
+1 CHA is gained by getting the proper response which is random.
+2 to ability of your choice is gained after passing the prayer check and then choosing.
Ability debuffs go away with Remove Curse and Long Rest.
You can get to 20 through ability improvement then the +1 from Ethel, the +2 potion from the drow lady and +2 from the mirror for up to 25. I would say try to get to 20 strength by feats first so you can pass the 20 strength mark otherwise if for example you use the hair first it wont let you put an extra point through the ability improvement system because it caps at 20
On my main character it did not show any religion checks,only the arcana one 🤔

For me shadowhearts enhance ability on is 0-3 added to a d20 my best outcome is 23 and I need 25 so looks like I'm screwed as far as shadowheart goes. Imma try with gale and My character
okay I see it is already one month ago you wrote this: anyway - you can save scum - even you never get this high of a score in your case 25 - what you need to get is a roll of 20 - (it must be the 20 not added anything) as it is a 'critical sucess' - even if you would need 30 - if you roll 20 it is always a 'critical sucess'.
But it is quite boring to do such save scum as it may need long time untill you finally get a 20! On the other side a 1 is always a critical failure.

If you go in Shadowheart's hidey hole and read a book about the mirror you learn about what the mirror is for and don't need those checks. No clue if it affects the +1 cha or not

You can use a feat to increase it to 20 before using the mirror, and that will get you to 23. The feat has to come first though, because that will not go higher than 20.
I dont think it matters cause whenever you respec, bonus points in ability arent shown.
If you get the actor feat followed by ability score improvement that'll get you to 20 then consume the hag buff for 21 so when you get the mirror you'll have 24
The mirror is Broken since 3.0 and yu can only use actually if yu go with Shadow in the dark Path becouse if yu go in the Light yu will not get to use it.. yu can try but i dont advice if yu are in her light path just forget it and evrything will be ok.. huahauhauha
(fun Fact theres another of these inside the Gountlet if yu really bother to explore the entire thing.. but its shattered yu cant use too.)

This is super buggy, I pass the prayer check and it either acts as if I didn’t pass it, or it just closes the interaction and I can’t use it anymore

So as for patch 5, the mirror works differently now. You can only gain plus 2 to ability of our choosing. It doesnt give you th 1 charisma anymore. BUT I managed to get plus 2 on all my characters except Shadowheart (maybe it works for her too, I just did not tested it)
Sooo with my main character, i did not bother with the religion check, just offered the knowledge of the necromancy book, gained 2 charisma. Then with Gale, paaed the religion check, gained 2 inteligence. With Karlach, since she had pretty bad int, i respec her into a wizard, passed the check, pick plus 2 str, then recpec her again inte my previous build. The buff was still there :)
