It's not supposed to do most of those things, but I can understand if the game simplifies things by not differentiating between interactions based on perception vs. physical presence. Illusions aren't supposed to have any physical interaction and shouldn't set off traps, tripwires, mines, etc. People, animals, and to some extent non-living things like turrets that are enchanted to detect things magically can be tricked into reacting by an illusion, but a physical trigger shouldn't be tripped by an illusion. But if the game engine can be tricked, abuse it.

Another note on Sanctuary, if you have a character that uses a Concentration spell purely for support (i.e. Bless, Hold Person, etc), using Sanctuary on that character will essentially make them unable to have their concentration broken. Super useful in the right scenarios.

    • @mystycomega6547

This is good, but statistically mirror image does that better. It’s non-concentration and in BG3 it ads 3 duplicates, each of which grants you +3 AC for a +9 to AC. Disadvantage, on average, means they have to roll above the targets AC twice, but mirror image means they have to roll 45% higher than the base targets AC once

i do this on my sorcerer. dipping 2 cleric on a sorcerer with 10 starting wisdom nets you 2 spells as a cleric that you can grab with both create water and sanctuary, neither of which care about how high your wisdom is. you can on turn one, twin a haste on you or your teammates, then bonus action sanctuary on yourself to protect yourself for a minimum of 1 turn. next turn if you hasted yourself, you can create water + chromatic orb or lightning bolt or ice storm for max damage with a tempest cleric subspec. if you didnt haste yourself, you can still do the combo so long as you're willing to quicken one of those two spells. its a pretty nasty combo of what you can do with that multiclass. another multi that can also pull this off is a devotion paladin/sorcerer as well.

IMHO, Darkness (the spell) is a waste. In most cases the radius is too large so it provides a bunch of added negatives - and does so for about one round because that's when the enemies will run out. Using that same action, or better yet one attack of a character with multiple to pop an arrow of darkness provides the same benefits more often than not. In a more confined radius meaning you're not blocking off a bunch of extra terrain causing potential issues.
Ironically, the primary instance where Darkness' radius is of better use than the smaller radius arrow of darkness are the instances where a well placed fog cloud will do the job just the same. Which is to block line of sight from afar (think - the Zentarim hideout - blocking their looking from seeing and get your entire party past if you stole the flask and now they're mad).
Unless you can lock down someone in darkness they rarely stay inside of it. So typically you get one maybe two rounds of real use if you intend to use it on anyone *inside* and not to block ranged attackers/anti-stealth LOS.

Another extra perk of magic missile, every missile counts as a separate spell hit for The Spellsparkler quarterstaff. Which means that once you reach the maximum lightning charges (which is very easy when upcasting magic missiles, specially if doing it multiple times in the same turn), the next missile will deal massive damage. On higher levels it's easy to obliterate enemies just by using this interaction. The only issue is that, if you are targeting multiple enemies, you can't reliably choose which one will eat the blast, as the missiles don't usually follow the order in which you chose the targets.

The problem with D&D 5e's action economy is that you really have to weigh whether it's worth using your action to buff/debuff an ally/enemy, cast a save or suck spell on an enemy, or just throw a big fireball to damage down the enemies instead. Usually, damage is the way to go because dead enemies means fewer enemy actions being used against your party. And I think BG3 makes this even more in the fireball's favor when you can see the enemy's health.

Utility spells and having a tactical position is better in this game than straight damage. Setting up a corridor of web or other difficult terrain leading to a door or high elevation will slow the enemy melee users approach by multiple turns. Darkness can be cast on your party so they can step out, attack from range, then step back in and be untargetable by ranged enemies. If you have a melee damage character on the same initiative as a cleric you can have the damage dealer go all out and then have the cleric cast sanctuary on them so they're safe to go again next turn. There are so many spells and abilities that are better than just damage dealing ones. You're not always going to be able to get all your enemies in one place to fireball them, and sometimes fireball just low rolls on damage anyways.

    • @shmeebs387
      @shmeebs387 ปีที่แล้ว

@@asturias0267 Pre-fight spells and bonus action spells like sanctuary and healing word are different (actually this game removes the D&D rule that says you can't cast two spells in one turn, so bonus action spells are even better in BG3 than tabletop D&D 5e). I'm talking about action economy after you're in initiative. Actions are like a currency. If the enemy has more actions per round than the player party, you're at a disadvantage. Removing actions from the enemy is the name of the game, and killing enemies is the most straightforward way to do that. Yes, there are other ways to do that like banishment, stun, paralyze effects, but typically if your ranged is hiding in darkness the enemy will just target someone else. Those enemy actions don't go to waste just because their preferred target is no longer available, maybe just waste one action to dash to another target.

I too often get damage from it because I like to go in with at least one tank, sometimes teleporting them with Misty Step.
Wyll has been performing less than my other guys. He does have Hunger of Hadar and I think Magic Missile (or just Eldritch Blast?) as well as Slow. Not the king of versatility though, Shadowheart and Gale have so many good spells to pick from. Slow was also extremely good against one of the big bosses.
I love how this game gives you so many ways to experiment with your tactics and spell. This also means I hate how you have to commit to learned spells until you reach the next level. But you can keep it simple too. Most of my attacks are still simply ranged or melee.

#14 - Friends. This cantrip gives the caster advantage with every Charisma-based skill check. Every. Single. One. As a cantrip it can be cast at will, so anytime you are in a dialogue (or in some cases, combat) and it asks for a Deception, Intimidation, Performance or Persuasion check, it will give you the option to cast Friends (just like Guidance) and give yourself two die rolls, and it will apply the better of the two rolls.
This spell is so useful it's not even funny. My bard chose it from the get-go, and makes use of it in almost every conversation, even with her 18 Charisma. My wizard uses it to bolster his feeble 10 Charisma and still get better odds on making my Charisma skill checks, which saves me SO MUCH TIME not having to reload previous quicksaves. I think we can all agree that sometimes in BG3 our plans will hinge completely on whether we succeed on a Persuasion or Intimidate check. Friends is not only useful, it's practically mandatory.

Unless you're playing Tactician or attempting to charm certain NPC's in Balanced. They will realize that you cast a spell on them, and they will not be happy. You could talk your way out of it, casting Friends again in the process, but there comes a certain point where you can no longer talk, and they will just attack you. I've had a few Friends that didn't know this, and ended up pissing off a few Grove NPC's, leading to the entire Grove being massacred.

Another thing that Guidance is amazing for is setting up Concentrated Blast. If you use it on a character with the buff that makes illithid powers bonus actions, you can use the attack every turn, which is pretty decent damage and healing for not costing a spell slot and automatically scaling with your class's spell modifier. Especially considering you can have the combo as soon as you get to the creche, which is very early for that kind of potential.

This does depend on the DC and your static bonus, if you can't beat the DC on less than a 20, the bonus to the roll may actually be better than your extra shot at a critical success
Easy example being a dc30 with +10 to your roll, normally you'd need a 20 to succeed, advantage gives you two chances, or two die faces, a +3 from a guidance roll means you can pass on a 17, 18, 19, or 20, giving you 4 die faces that will pass
