    Mariah is heavily inspired by gospel music so a lot of her music, especially her early work, has gospel elements to it. This performance was 1990. This was her first single she ever put out. React to her performance of Can't Let Go on SNL 1991.

      She was blessed to grow up in a house with black music, so the fact that she’s an artist is a blessing👊🏿Her mom should have sang BG like Cissy did💕💕

    Her singing live is pretty epic, but generally speaking, live performances of early 90s were better in general. The instruments were real, less eye catching gimmicks and real performances.

    This is not her debut performance, but it's one of the first. Her first was on Arsenio Hall on June 1st, this one was on October 27th.
    Vision of Love is her debut single. It's one of the songs that were on her demo tape that went to her first album, which came out in 1990 (30 years ago). I think she wrote it at 17 yo and Mariah says it's about her getting a record deal. She's also releasing her memoir this year to celebrate her career milestone/anniversary, and rumor has it it's gonna be called "I had a vision of love", which makes sense.
    The song was also, in my opinion, the perfect showcase of her talent to the world because it displays her lower range, mid belts, high belts, her whistle register and incredible ability of doing melismas (lotes of notes within the same syllable).
    Two fun facts: She never lipped this song, not a single note, till this day.
    Beyoncé said this was the song that made her want to become a singer.

    • @MsLuvmusic81
      @MsLuvmusic81 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      shes the first and probably only singer to refuse to lip sync on soul train; I think it was cheaper to have the artist come on and lip sync or something lol

      Beyonce and Christina took vocal lessons after this song came out, they both wanted to sing like that but they were already singers. I wouldn't go as far as Mariah I has never lip-synced this song because she use vocal stems during her life performance on her day dream tour for vision of love.

    This was in 1990 and there were a lot of good live performances back then but when she came onto the scene with this song she blew everyone away. She took things to a whole new level and left everybody else in the dust. She had at least 1 #1 hit in every year of the 90s (60 weeks).. so 12% of the decade she had the #1 song and then there was everybody else.

    I think her first performance was Aresenio Hall in 1990. But I believe this one was from 1990 as well. Also you should react to her singing If Only You Knew/Somewhere Over The Rainbow

    Live performances were like that back in the day: Boyz II Men, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson among others were great performers and vocalists. When record labels were looking for insane talents to sign and promote rather than "good looking" sex-sells type of artist for mass appeal.

    There were a few singers that could do really really sing live at this time, but only a few. Mariah and Whitney Houston were the top two imo
