It was total B's the crap she went through when she came out she had to prove herself her talent to the world hence why she did the live unplugged album with an actual audience. Thinking her vocals were computerized edited tampered with .. well didn't she prove em all wrong 🤣

Just because there were other prominent people doesn't mean she didn't make a huge impact. She mixed multiple genres of music in one and popularized the use of mellisma in the mainstreaming. She ended up popularizing and influencing pop/hiphop collabs with a formula we still see today just a few years later. She's literally untouchable.

I remember the first time I ever heard Mariah Carey singing, "Vision of Love". It was June of 1990. I was listening to the radio. The DJ announced her as a new singer. I listened and was really digging the song. Her voice kept progressing as the song kept building to that ultimate climax where she hit that amazing high note. When I heard that note, I stopped in my tracks and was absolutely dumbfounded. Had never heard anyone sing like that. I got chills and I'll never forget thinking that I had waited my whole life to hear her voice! She blew me away. I became an instant fan and now 31 years later, I am still loving her. How could anyone have known back in 1990 that Mariah would end up having one of the most successful singing careers of anyone in history? There's not a week that goes by that I don't listen to something from Mariah. She truly has been the most impactful singer of my life. Love her music. So incredibly talented.

A few months later she opened the show with VOL and closed the show with, "Love Takes Time". Her first time on the show, she was a bit nervous. Her second appearance was FIRE! She sang the hell out of both of those songs. I still watch those performances on TH-cam occasionally.

I like this song especially well. She did a song with Boyz II Men called, "One Sweet Day". Every time I heard this song, I'd break down in tears because it made me think of my mom passing away in 2010 & my dad had been gone already for 20 years (still miss him, as of now, he's been gone 30 years). During the time my mom was passing away, my sister was in the hospital fighting for her life after losing her leg due to necrotizing fasciitis. She only lasted 8 months because we had no idea she had small cell lung cancer during all of this chaos. All I can say, that song with Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men really hit home.....they might be gone but "One Sweet Day", I'll see them again!!! However, for a debut song, you must hear Whitney Houston's "Thinking About You" (no video) or "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" 1985 Live duet with brother, Gary Houston. They are definitive of the the songstress's vocal flexibility.
