- Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived at Raja Sansi Airport in Amritsar and the musicians play the melody 'Sare Jahan Se Achha'. The governor of Punjab greets the Prime Minister.
The Indian Prime Minister speaks about his visit to Pakistan, he says, "My agenda for this visit to Pakistan is to spread the peace and friendship between these countries. the population of one hundred crores wants our relationship with Pakistan should be harmonious".
Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visits Pakistan on February 21st, 1999. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif received the Indian Prime Minister at the Wagah border on 20th February 1999. A banquet in honor of the Indian Prime Minister and his delegation was hosted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan at Lahore Fort, on the same evening. Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, visited Minar-e- Pakistan, Mausoleum of Allama Iqbal, Gurudwara Dera Sahib and Samadhi of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh. On 21st February, a civic reception was held in honor of the visiting Prime Minister at the Governor's House.
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee speaks in Pakistan, he says, "My message to the people of Pakistan will be short and simple put aside the bitterness of the past together let us make a new beginning".
Pursuant to the directive given by the two Prime Ministers, the Foreign Secretaries of Pakistan and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 21st February 1999, identifying measures aimed at promoting an environment of peace and security between the two countries.
The two Prime Ministers signed the Lahore Declaration embodying their shared vision of peace and stability between their countries and of progress and prosperity for their peoples.
Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee extended an invitation to Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, to visit India on mutually convenient dates.

U see the problem is that when the split took place, pakistan was given a well trained army but the army was too large for a country with that land area size thus the army easily seized power from the government as it was too powerful compared to the civilian government

i remember this bus yaatra i was appearing for my 10th board exam it was february month & everybody was happy seeing this but after 3months in May 1999 came the Kargil conflict & all hopes of friendship came to an end. Mushraff was preparing for Kargil capture that time .
Musharraf's mistake was to start the battle of Kargil.India and Pakistan could not be friends till date Just because of Musharraf.

I can't say about Pakistan but surely it wasn't any gud tym fr India... Parliament attack, Insurgency in Kashmir, Bomb blasts and terror attacks happening nearly every week in prominent cities etc. India is in a far better position now than what it used to be back then! Thanks to the current govt who entertain no BS when it comes to national security! 2000-2013 was such a hell to live in India!

Pathankot , Uri attack by Pakistani terrorists. It is better for Indian Leaders & people that they must never trust on Pakistan and forget the good relationship.
This is the biggest lesson to learn in history. NEVER negotiate with a country where there are multiple power centers - elected prime minister, terrorist leaders and the Pakistan Army.

This was the decade of optimism - first time road links were established. Remember watching the event on a common TV in my boarding school - hostel. We were even given a partial evening off from study to watch the news. The first bus from Lahore rolled into Ambedkar terminal in New Delhi. Among the passengers were Noor Fatima, a 3 year old toddler with a heart condition accompanied by her father Nadeem Sajjad , a soil engineer. He even created the Dosti fund and made a contribution of 60000 rupees which would facilitate Pakistani Children seeking treatment in Indian hospitals. The scars of Kargil war and 2001 parliament attack were overshadowed by optimism and emerging relations over the next few years - such as restoration of Thar express, Indian cricket teams Tour of Pakistan in 2004 and addition of 28 Flights / week between the 2 nations. The economies were booming on both sides. Militancy in Kashmir had waned.. Somehow, we lost it all

Modiji broke his security protocols and went to Pakistan, which was literally a nightmare for the SPG.
And, even allowed ISI and pak army leaders access to the Indian forward base in Uri to give actual evidence of this attack and also shared many findings and belongings of the killed terrorists. He was highly criticized in the country by both his party and the opposition of compromising the security of the base. But, all went in vain and when Pulwama happened, every indian along with Modiji and party vowed to take action and even then Indian army only targeted the terrorists camps and not Pak army.
Now, the one who cannot learn from his mistakes, perishes.

As Atalji and Sharifji left on a chopper, the rest of the delegation went to Minar-e-Pakistan in the same bus. As they travelled through Pak highway, members of extremist groups started throwing stones at the bus and some of them ended up inside through the glass window.
But, as this meeting had great significance for both countries and the region, the delegates ignored and concentrated on the planned schedule.
Then after all Indians including Atal ji finished the program, the extremists washed the entire area including minar, to show their hate towards non-believers.
And, all this was not enough Army hq informed the PM office that Pak army along with mujis have occupied the Kargil bunkers, on the back of unsuspecting Indian army, as except for Pakistan, Indian PM's initiative for peace was welcomed by Indians and then we paid for it with several hundred bravehearts especially major Kalia, whose story is brutal 🥺☹️😠😡🤬
