I watched this great speech on Doordarshan in November, 1984. I was studying in standard 11 at that time. Doordarshan was the only TV channel at that time. Monday to Friday Doordarshan telecast would start at 6 PM & end at 11. Saturday it would start from the afternoon till 11 at night & on Sunday from Morning till night upto 11.
Unfortunately, Atalaji lost this Loksabha election to Madhavrao Syndhia. There was symphaty wave for Rajiv Gandhi because of Indira Gandhi assasinstion happened on 31 October 1984. Congress won the record 402 seats in 1984 Loksabha elections.
Most of the commenters here were not even born in 1984. Inc me.

India desperately needs Vajpaye now. The one and only person who impresse everyone with his speech and love . Even opposition parties. Modi needs to learn a lot . He is a normal politician like others always commenting on opposition.

I congratulate Doordarshan(Prasar Bharati) and the I&B Ministry on having released the archived video telecast. As always, it has been a privilege to listen to this great statesman Shri Atalji. His legacy remains taller than his party BJP. Modi faces a golden opportunity to carry it forward.
Still remember saw this telecast live. Those days DD was only option and it rarely use to show bites of opposition parties.

He was a true legend in Indian politics, I was very very sad on the day when he leave his body, I was there in his funeral procession in Aug'18 to pay my last respect. On that I witness that even politicians can be loved if he truly deserves...
I was there on 15th Aug' 1998 to see his speech live from Lal Quila, I was in 12th standards at that time..
His speech was a mesmerising effect on me and many others...
