Basically it’s some thin sheet metal and your feet that will stop whatever you’ve hit. No air bags, padding or much else. You’d be better served in a good quad that has a proper roll cage. If you register it for CAUV (in my state), you won’t need to get it plated or registered with the DMV. It will operate legally as if it’s a tractor, which you can drive on most roads besides freeways or certain cities if they have ordinances against tractors.
Some states allow 25 year old kei trucks on the road without restrictions, some allow them on roads below a certain speed limit, and some don't allow kei trucks at all.

All of the government left hand drive kei trucks I've seen are rusted worn out garbage, but there are very nice and well maintained 25+ year old kei trucks exporting from Japan with very low mileage.
You can also bring a car in under show and display where you can only put a certain amount of miles on it a year but I also think there is a list of vehicles that you can do that with.
@@Joesolo13Ban both if you’re that worried about peoples safety. Kei trucks are dangerous to the operator and pedestrians due to lack of crumple zones and lack of a hood, large trucks are dangerous to other traffic and pedestrians due to size and weight.
Kei trucks are a good replacement for a SxS if you cannot afford one, but they’re both probably going to get the same use out of them. Parts for a SxS are a lot cheaper than importing parts for a kei truck, so I would agree with this comment fully if SxS were more affordable off the lot.
An SxS is good if that's what you want, although expensive. A kei truck has a huge pickup bed, is fully enclosed with heat, A/C, windshield wipers, etc.

In PA the rule is 25 years old and on the classic car registration which limits driving it to about one day a week. So no legal daily drivers.

Kei trucks are a good replacement for a SxS if you cannot afford one, but they’re both probably going to get the same use out of them. Parts for a SxS are a lot cheaper than importing parts for a kei truck, so I would agree with this comment fully if SxS were more affordable off the lot.
An SxS is good if that's what you want, although expensive. A kei truck has a huge pickup bed, is fully enclosed with heat, A/C, windshield wipers, etc.

If we compare a semi sized Toyota pickup that just rolled of a conveyor to a key truck that's literally older than me that is.
Even those older ones do seem quite reliable though. And fuel-efficient for running errands. And f-kin fixable, given that many new trucks seem to need to a stool to check the engine oil
