Hey... I'm an organic farmer here in Japan (Sendai) and I have a 2015 Honda Acty truck, 2017 Honda Shuttle, and a 2006 Honda Hobio (my favorite). Obviously the Hobio and Acty are kei (it's pronounced "kay", by the way). Get a ticket and come drive my shit. You can review my tractors, too. Hell, I even have a field by the Sugo circuit and you can take the cars there and pretend they're race cars.

Keep in mind that Kei-class vehicles were primarily designed for Japanese city streets; unlike North America, Japan has a very high overall population density; almost 10 times over the average across the entirety of the United States. That means lots of buildings and lots of traffic, thus that puny engine won't matter so much.

They are brilliant at what they do best. Designed for crowded Japanese cities. My ex wife used to have a fleet of 5 for urban deliveries in English villages & towns, some of the streets date back to medieval lanes meant for a pony & cart where a Ford Transit would struggle or even not pass at all.
Any American that has been to old English towns will understand. As for speed, the average speed of inner London traffic is barely more than horse & cart days.

I miss my kei van, Daihatsu Hijet. Despite how it feels, they don’t tip because all of the weight is on the floor. I got it sideways on a dirt road once by accident and I swear it was going to roll, but everything was fine. It’s also pretty fun to drive at low speeds because you can fit through anywhere, turn on a dime, parking is never an issue, and you’re constantly shifting gears with a super marshmallow clutch (at least on mine).

+Stingray but it IS a regular car...just not in America. In Japan, you see these things everywhere, just like how you see Ford Focuses everywhere in America and Reanult Meganes everywhere in the UK. This thing is a fucking van for god's sake. It's not like he's reviewing another sports car or luxury car, which in their most extreme cases are only "regular cars" in the sense that Subway is a healthy alternative to fast food.

Cool! Good to know. Just wish he wrote something for this car instead of trying to a normal review. I think we all know we don't come in here for car knowledge but for funny things said about the type of people who own the cars he reviews. Guess all the money has got to his head, maybe too scared of offending somebody with truth. Oh well.

in Egypt, Suzuki Super Carry's are a staple of public transport. No one is familiar with the term "Kei vehicle", it's just treated as a regular vehicle and no one thinks it's strange or anything. It just hit me that I see these on the high way all the time and I didn't realize they were so weak. Mind you these vans haul 7 full grown adults ( not including the driver and in these cramped spaces) hundreds of times a day from place to place for years on end!
