Excellent advice re "checking to ensure that all parts are included". On my Enterprise kit I discovered that I was missing one 40mm bofor barrel. I contacted Pontos and they sent out a replacement that day. Actually, they sent out four pieces to ensure that at least one arrived in good order. Excellent service from a quality company!

Fantastic review! You inspired me to order this today . The wooden decks and pe parts really take these kits to the next level...even up to museum standard. Thank you so very much for your wonderful reviews. I have always wanted a big 1/200 Yamato since i saw the nichimo version in the old squadron signal catalogs back in the mid 70s. I was able to get the 1/200 glow Yamato for $578 off of Amazon. Also was able to get the 1/200 Japanese crew figures and also got the judo tournament figures will have mounted doing a tournament on the aft flight deck :). Northstar models makes 1/200 naval crew figures for ww2 us, British, German and Japanese. Some of the sets are just standing and others are in working poses such as handling ammo, saluting, or swabbing the decks.
I have some of their figures in my stash they are outstanding bought some a while ago for my nichimo Yamato - pity but North Star web site down after digging appears shutdown for personal reasons, can't confirm

Yes, parts such as the rails for the aircraft.. stainless steel instead of brass.
Thank you Neigel. I bought Glow2b Yamato last week and now I am trying get informations as much as I can and extra parts for this ship as well. It will take some time. I try found two rader shifts replacement for Yamato but no results. Do you know where I can find them please?

Nigel, would it be possible, in future reviews that include still photographs of small parts such as PE frets, to include a ruler in the screen shot to allow the viewer to get a better estimate of the size of the parts on the fret? Love your work and am anxiously awaiting the next installments of both the Lancaster and the FA=18 Hornet builds.
Lancaster will be around soon.. am waiting for the right conditions to paint outdoors. FA-18 is a pita.

Thanks for the overview. I was hoping for a more direct comparison with the kit PE. Given that so much PE is included in the set, it's hard to pay more than half of the kit price for more PE. Does it really add $400 worth of detail to the kit?
I believe the value of anything is all down to the purchaser?

Looks awesome, but is that the normal price range for 1/200 ship's PE? I was a little bit shocked when I heard about the price for this set. And are you sure there are no aircraft trolleys/launch cradles in the kit itself - PE or plastic?
Ship aftermarket and kits are always comparatively expensive... probably as the sales are smaller? The kit has launch cradles but no trolleys afaik?
Hi mate, I’ve got the kit on order, and I’m thinking of getting this aftermarket kit, while I’m no stranger to photoetch, given the size of the pieces, what would you recommend to stick them down without the superglue drying out ?
I use VMS 5K now exclusively.
Ah that's the slow setting one, I've used that to great effect in the past thanks Nigel
Yes, they are also flexible when dry so are stronger. For larger sheets you could use the gorilla glue clear which works pretty well, but i would wick a thin CA around the edge once dry?

Dunno what it is mate.. it says for sticking stone, glass, metal etc. Not the dark brown one..

Hi Nigel. I think I'm in dead end😅. Pontos set for 1/200 Yamato which you reviewed two years ago looks great but. If I am right in this set also are 25 mm AA PE guns. I bought Bunker Studio set of 25 mm AA guns. In your opinion ( which for me is very important 🙂) this set is still worth to buy? Will be very pleased if you can share your thoughts and opinions. Yes, the flight deck alone makes this worthwhile.

In my kit ( I love kit ) there are the carriers for the planes.
I love kit haven't manufactured the 1/200 Yamato AFAIK Laura, having said that, they are all the same, (Trumpeter). Yes the kit has a trolley or two for the planes but not enough.

Hello Nigel, I am not having much luck communicating with King and Pontos. I know it's not your place to be an intermediary, but you seem to have good report with both. This is an outstanding after market set! Saying that, it would be much better if it came with a "D" photo etch fret that is missing. I contacted King directly and they advised me to contact Pontos. I did and I still haven't had a response. Very disappointed. If that fret never comes, I will be okay using Trumpeter parts except I will have to scratch build some mainmast parts. But at almost $400 for the set I really shouldn't have to. Next, where do parts WD05/06/0708 go if you know? For the life of me I cannot match the contours anywhere on the kit! Excellent review by the way! And thanks in advance.
Are you in the UK? If so I may be able to help as I have just ordered from Pontos. The service you got there from King was nothing short of junk!! You bought the set from him, he should sort the issue. WD 05-08??

@@NigelsModellingBench Thank you so much for helping me. I am somewhat confused by this business model that is in place between the two entities. This is my third or fourth set from Pontos. However this is the first one that I have incorporated into a build. So far so good. Now if I can come up with a process to tone down the laminate wood. Probably going to mist light coats of heavily thinned dark grey until the hinoki cypress gets a little weathered. This kind of wood greyed over at the same rate from the inside so holy stoning didn't brighten up the deck. The numbers WD05, WD06. WD07 and WD08 are on the big wooden deck sheet. The Only thing that I can think of is it may cover a section of deck near the superstructure before the refit and addition of the extra gun emplacements? And as you probably know by now I'm in the US. Thank you so much and if only you knew a source for a comprehensive rigging guide. I believe that I can take a few photos from the 1/10 scale model and get quite a bit from that. It's somewhat easy to get the rigging lines but harder to figure out where the lines terminate. I guess it's a good thing that the critics are in the same boat as the builders! Thanks again.

Love to buy this, because I have ordered the Yamato and it should arrive in about a week or so. Having said that, I don't understand where to go to actually order it? Looked at Kings detailing online etc and kingngang5512.. When I go to Pontos, there is no set??

Just don't understand it. I have a Paypal account? how does that work? Do you just send $395 from the credit card to kingdetail. If this is the owner of Pontos, how come the kits are not on the Pontos website. I am confused...Hehehe
Finally figured it out and now I we'll see when the kit actually arrives here in the USA. Does he send an email or tracking number once it is sent?
