I play on the ROG Ally and most the time I have it docked with the XG Mobile 3080. I know it's expensive but personally I think it's worth it for my use case. I got the 3080 on sale for $1000 at Best Buy on Black Friday. For a benchmark I was playing Lied of P on a 4k monitor scaled back to 1440p and getting 30-40 FPS without XG mobile. Excellent number but when I added the XG 3080? 144 FPS which is the cap for the screen over Display Port. So for $1700 total I have a full blown mid ranged PC that's a handheld I can pack into a small bag and go. Amazing. Plus I gained a lot of I/O - 4 USB ports, HDMI, DP, Hard wire RJ45 jack, etc.
this is what im thinking i have a rog ally coming and one thing that im kinda excited is i wanted to build a living room pc that was small form factor i have a 4070 ti pc that runs everything perfectly so if i get the xg mobile and dock i can plug it to the living room or bedroom and game laying down and just take the ally when i want to go i think it will be perfect
Lenovo's wave of mega silent firings in early 2023 were absolutely despicable. They laid of thousands of really great people after posting record profits and bragging about moving up the Forbes list each quarter in their "All Hands" NA org sales meetings to those people that moved the needle for them. They ruined thousands of people's lives, especially those that relocated and even bought new homes during the peak of covid when Lenovo asked for their dedication to support and grow the business. Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this.
I like your review. Most of the reviewers don't provide their POV but you do. Sometimes, we just need that extra impetus (like an affirmation) to push us in a particular direction. Thank you.
I only have the Steam Deck OLED but at times it's almost a bit too big for me, no way the Legion Go is working for me. Ally, when I tried it in stores, seems to be the right size for me. All of them are great handhelds when they suit your needs
@@GabTheDrummer I'm waiting for the steam deck 2. Not the oled but the legit next gen. Hopefully that is a huge jump in performance and they make the screen 8 inches. I think 7 is fine but I want it between the SD and the legion go. Other than that the oled improved basically everything I cared about other than performance. I just need more performance, the same battery life as the oled model, and hopefully bigger face buttons and slightly smaller trackpads to compensate. I think nobody actually needs them as big as they are, but I really really want full controller sized buttons and joysticks and all that. The deck has the best joysticks but I think the ally has the best face buttons
these handheld pcs are only gonna get bigger..lol. i have a steam deck and keep it home with me. on my commute to and from work i use my switch. slides easily into my overly packed work bag.
I game on the Go while plugged into an outlet 100% of the time and am blown away at how snappy it is. It boots up fast, and I have yet to experience a crash/ freeze, which is amazing to me. I've played multiple Assassin's Creed games, Horizon Zero Dawn, Rocket League and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Not one single crash on this beautiful screen. My biggest problem since owning it is my lack of sleep and time going by extremely quickly. I need to put this thing down. Lol
lol definitely going to have to add that to the negatives of the GO 🤣 I have just started playing with mine plugged into an EGPU and I am even more blown away, I can now leave an EGPU by my TV and have even more power! This little thing is amazing
Good comparison! I was leaning very hard in favor of the rog ally, but I ended up going for the legion go. For my specific need (hybrid gaming pc to replace my old desktop + maybe some remote play ps5 on my couch) it seemed like the best option. Main reasons vs asus : mostly due to the proprietary slot on the asus limiting my options for egpus in desktop mode for which legion's USB4 offers a better solution + the touchpad works for ps5 remote play Main reason vs deck : I want windows on my desktop pc
Have you seen the insane price of Steam Deck 512.GB in Norway? It cost 2-300 bucks more than both Rog Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. Rog Ally and Lenovo Go sure is more wallet friendly than Steam Deck 512.GB.
Lol that’s assuming the Steam Deck is even available. Here in south Africa the Ally is $850 tax included while the Steam Deck LCD 64gb is $800. I know which one I’m getting
same in romania where I moved to, fucked up. They are selling the LCD old ass steamdeck that OBSOLETE in 2023 for 4500 LEI (900EUR) for 512 version when its more than two times cheaper in the US@@V3ntilator Lenovo on the other hand plays smart and has very good pricing here and even from a reseller the maximum price increase is like 100EUR. Now with christmass discount I could get Lenovo go 512gb version for 3400lei or aaprox 680EUR which is very close to the initial price, and over 200 CHEAPER than the steam deck LCD 512g, LOL - makes no sense to even look at SD
Cool part about this is eventually they’ll get better and better. Gaming laptops have gotten better over the years so it’ll be interesting to see the future of handhelds in the upcoming years
I got the ally, plus another $800 for an xg nobile that I use for vr. I basically live on the road, so having the ally in my backpack and the xg in my suitcase is a good way of having desktop level performance without sacrificing mobility. And all together cost me $1500.
If you want a big handheld, you can't buy SD or Rog Ally. If you want a small handheld, you can't buy Lenovo Legion Go. If you want maximum game compatibility you can't buy Steam Deck. The choice were easy for me as i wanted a huge handheld with Windows, so i bought Lenovo Go on day 1. There is other reasons why i bought the Go too like tablet mode, mouse mode, FPS mode, 2 x USB-C 4.0 ports etc.
Loved the comparison of the three MashIT as always great video don’t like the software and some of the hardware with the ROG Ally the issues with the SD card slot everyone has been complaining about and it doesn’t seem to be compatible with the Shargeek power banks for example the Storm 2 100w as it’s to do with Asus buggy software and the ROG Ally just seems inferior to the Steam Deck OLED and the Lenovo Legion Go so I’m currently stuck between these two loved your video and comparison!
Also hoping you will be able to review the Acer Predator Triton 17x laptop (2023 model) when you get back to laptop reviews as it’s a really good laptop with that miniled screen just no in depth reviews of it and Jarrod’s Tech is unable to review it as Acer won’t lend it to them.
It really depends on what you want to play. Legion go has full compatibility steam deck(without windows installed) doesnt. Personally I like the SD because it feels like an actual console and it has great support by Valve. On top of that, you *can* install windows on it and dual boot it and it works pretty well too.
Compatability is quite a huge factor in my opinon. You can't easily transfer games, updates etc from the deck to your PC because it runs on Linux. And while Windows certainly isn't the best OS for handheld devices, it makes the Ally and the Legion act as just another PC with way easier file transfer.
ROG Ally just for the mature software and twice the power of the steam deck. I got mine for half the price so no questions on that. the Legion Go does have the extra features and the bigger screen but it is really just the same power as the Ally. Ill keep the Ally and then wait for the next generation of PGD's (portable gaming device)
The Legion Go has the greatest versatility & future potential. Mash IT never shies away from a definitive opinion rather than the customary cliché: "What do you think?" and ending a critical review by sitting on the fence. One of the more authentic tech TH-camrs and fully deserving of a six figure subscriber following.
I stopped gaming after Dreamcast, then decided to get a Switch when it came out. The Switch and handheld gaming got me back in... Since then I got an og steam deck and and Ally. I love having all these options in handhelds. Can't wait to see what's next with these.
@@JamieR I use the Ally more than the Steam Deck at this point. I generally like the form factor and controls better on the Ally. Both are great. The Steamdeck is basically a console like the Switch. The Ally has a good bump in power. Also you can mess with settings and get it running how you want a bit more. It's just preference though.
Steam deck suits me better since I’ve already invested in a bunch of games on steam back when I had a gaming pc. Now it doesn’t feel like a waste. I can still play a lot of those games and don’t have to fork out 1000s on a gaming laptop or pc
My conclusions is the following: -if you want to simply play games in bed or in the office, train, nature, etc.; Steam Deck is the best choice -if you want to play games as well as do other things like checking e-mails and such then Legion GO is the perfect choice -and if you want something like the Legion GO but a little more focused on the game side then choose the Ally I personally like all of them, there is no obvious choice as what's the best one, they all fulfill the role they're meant to fulfill. I'd choose the Steam Deck because I'm only interested in the gaming side and being as portable as possible, especially with long battery life, too bad it doesn't have the Legion GO's mouse switch feature yet
I love the Legion Go. It runs much better than the Steam Deck. I don't have to do hacks to get games to work. I can use the FSR to get upscaled 2k images with better frame rates than my deck AND the Legion Go pairs with Geforce Now better than the steam Deck & the ultimate level allows me to play Cyberpunk maxed out at qhd with path tracing on the Legion Go!
that's cool but isn't purchasing the game on sale on your console or pc then remote playing it through your Legion Go a more cheaper alternative than an expensive GEForce ultimate subscription ?
@@harissonbond7499 Editing my comment. I see what you're saying now. Sorry I misunderstood originally... I have done the math and that actually contributed to my self justification for getting a 4090 and 13900k but in practice GeForce Now streams better than my home network for me. Maybe I need to play with the settings more but streaming from my PC looks like trash comparitively to me for some reason... Playing on my PC beats Geforce Now but not streaming to a handheld...
@@harissonbond7499I'm not sure how expensive gfn is now but I was lucky enough to get in early and still pay $5 a month. I don't have a desktop and live in a camper so it's been a pretty awesome investment.
I'm running SteamOS on my Legion Go - Bazzite. It's pretty good and means you can forget about the awful bundled software. And working sleep. I've already the Go attempt to self detonate in the case when it was supposed to be sleeping.
Bought a refurbished steam deck 512GB for $359. Looks brand new with all the goodies and also a 1 year warranty from Valve. The only thing is its always out of stock.
You’re going to regret it. Return it while you can. Steamdeck performance is already lacking with the new Triple AAA games. Guarantee it won’t be able to run GTA VI. Trust me, I have one.
Sent my Legion Go back, too big, too heavy, uncomfortable to hold for longer than 15min. The Go is more a stationary device and no handeld anymore... But the screen is awesome! ❤
Bought the Lenovo go and return it less than 24hrs. Now got the Asus M16 RTX 470. But still wondering if I really need one for just occasionally playing CS2
@@MashITTech I’ve been playing CSgo on my iMac for some years and Valve released CS2 and will stop supporting for Mac. After 3 hrs of playing with legion the fps control don’t work on the game. Played another game Control I think which has a really nice graphics but it’s impossible to see the which button should I press to continue playing (had to wear my reading glasses and it barely it didn’t help). If I would only play like mortal combat or racing games then a 8.8 inches would be fine. Now I’m using a 16inc laptop but still debating if I really need one, Il guess my regular jobs takes a way of my time and may not able to utilise my brand new gaming laptop. Got it on Black Friday for $500 off
Got both Ally and Go. In fact very excited to get Go for its larger screen size despite being happy with Ally overall but I'm mighty disappointed in Go. The experience is very choppy. The software is so bad and under thought and I constantly run in to issues with display scaling, stuttering, freezing and even crashing at times. Ally at this point is very mature, has a lot of options for handheld gaming built in and just work. Legion space is a joke compared to Armory Crate, I eoubt if that interface is developed by an actual engineer who understands the usecase of the device. Its not even worth having its own name. And I dont buy the excuses that Ally took time to mature and Lenovo needs time too. 1) The time they took ao far resulted in very little. 2) They have 2md or 3rd mover (depending on how you see it) advantage of knowing much better what kind of issues they need to pay attention when releasing a mass market handheld based on what Steam Deck and ROG Ally went through. They didn't even fix the dead zone issue yet which is a major user experience issue that wouldn't take a whole lot of effort for them to fix which doesn't inspire confidence. And not having a VRR screen is something that can't be fixed in hardware. The higher the delta between refresh rate and actual fps, the more tearing and choppiness you perceive. And Go is the worst case scenario with 144Hz screen mostly playing 40-50fps. I juat wish Ally had an inch bigger screen
Hi , i want to buy myself the Ally , but I keep hearing the battery is really bad , only last 1hr or even less if running a triple A game with good graphic like cyberpunk , should I wait for the Ally 2 if the battery improve ?
Steam Deck OLED with 2TB internal SSD is my main go to only 3 of my 260 games don't run on Linux and unlike most casual users I know how to tinker. I also get the benefit of not being spied on by Microsoft or have adds shoved in my face. Need to see more people test Steam OS on these other devices.
On my portable gaming computer I already played at? • Age of Empires II Definitive Edition • Batman Arkham Knight • Bioshock Infinite • Elden Ring • Tennis World Tour 2
I’ve had the original Steam Deck since UK launch. I was tempted by the ROG Ally but the SD card issue turned me off. I nearly bought the Legion Go but everyone complained about the buggy software. I’ve just had my new OLED Steam Deck delivered 30 mins ago. Just about to unbox it. Im still tempted by the Legion Go. I wonder if I should have bought that instead. I basically just play retro games.
If you play old retro games steam deck and legion are all overkill for what you need. If you play alot of multiplayer games then legion go with their windows installation is better. Everything else steam deck OLED is a beast.
If you are just playing retro games and have no problem getting them running on steam deck then I think you made the right choice. I feel the steam deck is the best ergonomically of the three and with the new oled screen and bigger battery it will be great for on the go. I am a tinkerer so I love the go to see what I can get away with playing in it, making a desk setup with it and playing around with egpu etc which is why I prefer the go
The main issues your going to have with the Steam Deck is if you play games with Ricochet or Deep-Level Anti-Cheat which is mostly Modern Call of Duty Games & Fortnite. There are a few games that just don't run well on the Steam Deck like Cities Skylines 2 or Starfield "But that game barely works on new PCs anyway". Steam has a "Verified" system on how well a game will work on your system. From my experience, you can get just about everything working on the Steam Deck as long as it doesn't have deep anti-cheat systems. Even RCT1 works on my Steam Deck using Desktop mode and Proton. I play a lot of Dolphin Emulation on my Steam Deck as well. Even got the GOG version of Balders Gate 3 to run flawlessly on my Steam Deck "though it took some work in desktop mode".
For Retro and indie games, Steam Deck OLED is absolutely the correct choice. Amazing screen, excellent ergonmics, amazing OS and support, best battery life etc.
What does 15w vs 30w mean? And we can change that when we are docked right? And it doesn’t hurt this thing to use it while charging like a phone right?
still nowhere close to x2 performance of GO or an ALLY for only 100$ more, no matter how you try to justify the purchase, if its good for you - I`m glad, but even with OLED steamdeck is obsolete and you cant even get stable 30 fps where I get 50-60 previously on my Ally, that I switched later to Legion GO which is a beast, but also doesnt turn off after 50-60 min of using it like I had to with Ally.
I'm looking for an SSD m.2 to use as my main/S.O drive. I was going to order the samsung 980 pro but I read there was a problem with its firmware. Not sure which one should I buy.
I think I might hold out for the steam deck 2. As much as I want one of these, the end game is GTA 6 while laying in bed and even though the Lenovo and ASUS might be able to handle it on low settings in a year or 2, I really want the polish and continued support valve offers. Not to mention the optimization. I think we'll see a steam deck 2 announcement that lines up with GTA 6.
@gelul12 That's alright. I'm patient. I'd rather just stick with my vita and 3ds for a while rather than blow my money on a handheld that's now severally under powered compared to what it's competitors are pushing out. I think valve is going to push a SD2 faster than you think. With Lenovo and ASUS pushing way more horsepower during a next gen changeover, i think valve knows time is money. Not to mention, I would almost garuntee with GTA 6 a year or so away, they will want people playing this most likely record breaking game on THEIR hand-held and the legion and Ally might have the power to do it on low settings meanwhile, the current steam deck doesn't have a chance in hell and valve knows this. Don't think for a second that the SD2 is currently tabled just because of a model with a better screen and battery life.
Do any of these products do console to console link to play multiplayer? Reason I ask is when you’re in an area with no WiFi but have 5 people that have the same handheld that ability would be clutch.
yes that would be clutch. And there is no specific setup like that currently as it would more depend on the game than the console. You could easily create an adhoc network but the games would have to support LAN play. Most games now are lazy and just give online as the only option :(
On the Legion GoPro, is it easy to update the drivers or is there some difficulty because I heard rumors that the software wasn’t as the ROG Ally. I am trying to decide to buy a portable unit like the one shown or get a gaming laptop for under $1000 with the new RTX 40,60 or an AMD gpu. There are some really good sales right now on gaming laptops.
which should i buy ally or lenovo go? i already have a steam deck and i need a windows based portable console 😢 i know asus has the sd card issue but i really like its vrr while lenovo has the deadzone issue and is quite big
steam deck head like years of headstart and it`s still nowhere stable or good, LITERALLY ANY CHINEESE win4 handheld or win3 will send steamdeck to the junkyard, any windows based handheld from the box like legion GO is 10x more stable and better than Steam OS after years of nonstop work to optimize. I mean if you like steam deck - it`s your right especially if you managed to get it at the retail price, because steam deck over 500$ even with OLED is nowhere worth the purchase because at 600 you can already get ALLY and with 650-700 you can get LEgion go that is almost twice beefier in terms of FPS (50-100% boost in games) for 100$ buck is a nobrainer.
you are never going to run any games at 1600p on an integrated gfx unless of course you like mine sweeper :) the panel scales well so would rather have a crisp looking desktop and then game at either 800p or 1200p, bear in mind on an 8.8" panel even 800p looks good
If you are good with PC then go with legion go. If you want everything easy to operate then go with the limited steam deck. I bought the go as a gaming PC and that is what I got.
I have zero faith in either Lenovo or Asus to keep up support for their devices. Asus already had issues with SD cards being burnt to a crisp, and the Switch has shown how unreliable the removable controllers can be, wiggling and wobbling after a while. Not only that, but you have two more batteries you have to worry about bulging. Steam Decks battery isn't any easier to remove with all the adhesive, and the OLED has been reported to have dead pixels and mushy dpads, which I have only experienced the latter. I'd recommend the Deck, but if you're not into tinkering, just get one of the Windows handhelds. Don't go for the Ayaneo, GPD, etc, they throw up devices like crazy, support can't be a strong point for them.
I got the ally about a week ago, loved it but the usbc port was to slow for 1440p at 120hz in dock mode. Something I require for GeForce now. So I returned it for the legion go and I got to say, the legion go is heads over shoulders better in basically ever category for me. Better screen, better size, having the ability to disconnect the controllers are a game changer (never owned a switch but loved the idea of what they had going on) so glad you love it but for the same price I would go with the go.
@@GB-ow1jh I've held it and it's amazing but it's to big for me plus I am 6 months in with the ALLY, I cannot return nor want to anyway lol. I lay in bed and play for the most part so the ALLY is the best m for that reason. If I didn't buy the ALLY I would of for sure went with the Go, sadly I can't at the moment but I'm glad your enjoying your Go. Happy gaming!
I cracked a laugh when you said "I'm always blown away with just how well I can play games on this device", then crashing the car into the fucking corner lmao subscribed and liked.
@@MashITTech New sub definitely lol. I'm choosing the Ally over OLED and GO because both haven't come out yet here in Chile. Hopefully the SD Issue and the smaller screen don't bring me down on the choice. Mostly I need it to play on my night shifts, or slow/weekend days, when I've got to stay awake and there's nothing to do at work. Small, reliable, powerful and stealthy in case my boss pops up by the office and sees me gaming hard lmao.
With my rog Ally, I never have issues hitting the back buttons. I had problems hitting the screen on accident with the right stick with shooters, but what I did to fix that I got an extended one
While the rail system controllers on the Go are a cool addition. All I could think was that it’s another thing that would loosen over time and piss me off. So I went with the Ally and LOVE it.
The ally is an amazing console too and have loved my time with mine. And you are right it is another thing to potentially go wrong but I am a sucker for gimmicks and tinkering 😂
There is no flex/movement to the controllers on my Go. My Switch on the other hand has a lot of play. I don’t foresee them loosening up. There is no play for them to wiggle and develop looseness.
For me, I don't use Steam. I get all my games from GOG. I was going to get the ROC Ally, but a friend got one,and didn't like it,and ASUS has really gone down as a company overall. So, I am getting the Legion Go. It just fits most of what I want in a PC gaming handheld.
I just stick with the steam deck just amazing for all my games I play manly Skyrim and fallout! And many others won’t be long till we see a new steam deck 2
@MashITTech Yeah, I didn't care for that feature. A few of my friends are blown away by how I was able to get it so cheap. They are pretty impressed with the LegionGo as well. Let's just hope that Lenovo cranks out the patches and gets the software side ironed out. Cheers!
for fighting games I found the Go D Pad pretty unusable, its just too close to the body so you can't rotate it like you would on a deeper D pad, trying to pull off special moves is really tough..
@@MashITTech I'm an old fart who grow up playing SNES (NES, in fact), so I thought this style d-pad might be my preference. But, yeah, it does look a bit too close to the screen.
Haha I remember the NES days! Yeah I had high hopes for the d pad until I used it, it’s like the people who design these devices have never played games
I believe you can change the amount in BIOS and mine was set to auto. I will have a play around but I don't think I will see much difference in performance
I have the Steam deck and got the ally for Christmas. I like the Steam deck so much better. Its much more user friendly if your using it exclusively for gaming. It also is more ergonomic and comfortable in your hands to play. The Steam deck also is a bit heavier and has a more premium feel to it. I also didnt notice all that much of a difference in the screen. Im returning the ally I didn't care for it.
Also steam OS has full FSR and the battery is much better. OLED deck gives me 3-9h on my games. I don't put my games at 60fps and don't care for it unless it's an indie or fighting game.
Imo if you want more of console experience thts can play 40-50% of all or most games & anything extra your willing to look up for awhiiiilllee then steam deck. Now if your lookn to start pc gaming & getting into learning more hands on things for pc gaming terms whats good or bad the stuff us console user arent to hands on with then the rog or lenova
I've all 4 ( lcd and oled deck, ally, go ). Imo deck is better for price to performance lcd, oled version pay a bit more get an ally. The rog ally is king, alot of power only downfalls is its white and gets messy easy, no case and card stand ( I 3d printed a new one ). Legion go great screen but alot of small issues but head to head vs ally it loses easily.
Ally is crap dude be for real. Handle those things all the time at work. Plastic is cheap, eye sore, shit screen, power may be ‘better’ but not by much.
I'd go for steam deck. I really want that legion GO but lenovo busted my and my friend's phone (similar model) after an update which resulted into noticeble faulty battery and unresponsive screen after a week. Both of us got the same issues. So I got some great Trust issues with Lenovo.
I have the ROG Ally and it is great! Very happy with it! -- this Legion Go looks cool but I dont think I'd want to carry around anything bigger or heavier than the Ally and accessories already. Too much pack space and too heavy are big portability factors. I think a 7 inch screen is a nice portability balance to large screen to see what you're doing. The ally with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse makes a decent travel laptop to stay small as well! And the sound is great!
You think is the point, I personally have them all and use the go the most....I also thought it was funny durning the speaker test he put the mic up to the ally speakers but didn't do the same for the go. I'm also gonna have to give your comment the same thumbs down lol
A performance spec people don't talk about often is the steam deck can still decode video faster than Ally and the Go since the custom SoC was optimized for that. It can decode 4K in under 1ms which is completely overkill. This makes it the lowest latency device when it comes to streaming with moonlight, achieving latencies of 4-7ms (roundtrip) You actually get lower latency on the steam deck streaming at 60fps than playing 30fps native on any platform. A 30 fps frame is about 32ms, meanwhile a 60fps frame is about 16ms, coupled with the added 4ms of moonlight, you'll total at 20ms of added latency which is still lower than 32ms. Playing these eyecandy AAA titles with seemingly no latency at 90fps oled is quite the experience. I pretty much stream anything now since 30fps is intolerable and even the GO can't 90fps+ AAA titles natively. When I'm actually on the go, I stick to undemanding games and the deck would still win there due to the battery life and software. The quick sleep/resume is so critical when actually on the go. I really like the size of the Ally, but it's never actually practical to pick up the Ally when streaming is a thing and the deck oled has a better controller/screen/battery/stream latency. The Go however holds no purpose whatsoever unless you like playing AAA games at 30fps which imo is just retarded. Even the fps mode isn't that novel anymore now that the Ally added gyro recently and SD had gyro since launch.
@@ningyi5727 th-cam.com/video/DvSx8opgOtU/w-d-xo.html this dude benchmarked it and the results are even better today with AV1 support from sunshine (but you need to stream from a 40 series card) and maybe the oled is even faster now with the die shrink on top of that cuz these benchmarks were with the old version and one last note, there are kernel patches on linux to lower input latency even further if you want to go the extra mile which was not done in this benchmark
Legion go my next go to device. Switch pro lol. Ill wait until feb-may. I feel like its a niche product and many will hate it. Its so big. Got ayaneo 2, oled deck. I dont think ally will offer me anything different or better than deck+ayaneo 2. Legion go does.
When Nintendo fails to release the Switch pro and now these handhelds are absolutely amazing! It just raise the bar even higher and I'm excited for more updates to come!
yeah I bought a switch even though I have a steam deck just for the hell of it but I'm definitely not excited for the switch 2 anymore. I'd rather get the steam deck 2 and just use my switch for nintendo games. I bet they'll even make the first few big switch 2 games on the original switch too because of how many units of that they've sold
There are rumors that Switch 2 will have PS5 level performance. Someone on YT stated he knows someone who saw it in action, and that it played FF7 Remake. How they'd do that in a handheld device is beyond me, leaving me doubtful. Hopefully it'll at least be closer to a Rog / Go / Deck in performance or a bit more powerful.
@@JamieR That's great to hear! We just enjoy what we have and Nintendo failed to release any great consoles since the Oled instead of the Switch 2 or Pro. It's been a let down. We only hear about it, but failed to see it. At this rate. Nintendo needs to keep raising the bar cause RoG's updates and other new handheld has been killing it. Releasing the switch pro now doesn't sound that great anymore.
Lenovo legion go hands down . I love my legion go but ill probably buy a steam deck for my wife since she a console player and isn't use to all the tweaks and stuff you have to do on windows .
Not sure about the Legion Go but the Ally comes with free gamepass. Also, the Steam deck can only stream gamepass games unless you install windows onto it.
I wouldn't count out the Legion Go battery yet. I read from Legion that they are planning on releasing an upgrade that makes the battery life 56 percent more proficiency. Also, many games like Destiny 2 won't allow you to play thrm cause Steam is Linux. With my Legion Go, I had no problems and returned my Limited Steam Deck back. Also, they dropped a BIOS and graphics update and i haven't had any laggyness anymore and the graphics really pops.
Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this.
ok im actually watching this on my Steam Deck OLED (desk top mode) and your video looks amazing in this screen.
I like your review. Most of the reviewers don't provide their POV but you do. Sometimes, we just need that extra impetus (like an affirmation) to push us in a particular direction. Thank you.
Really glad you found it useful :)
I only have the Steam Deck OLED but at times it's almost a bit too big for me, no way the Legion Go is working for me. Ally, when I tried it in stores, seems to be the right size for me. All of them are great handhelds when they suit your needs
Absolutely, I feel like each kind of have their own niche in the market depending on what you want out of it
I have the steam deck LCD and i bought the legion go. I'm hardly touching me steam deck right now.
@@rahnyc4 my switch with my hori split pad pro is just as wide as a steam deck.
Main reasons vs asus : mostly due to the proprietary slot on the asus limiting my options for egpus in desktop mode for which legion's USB4 offers a better solution + the touchpad works for ps5 remote play
Main reason vs deck : I want windows on my desktop pc
That sounds just like my reasoning! Also really enjoying using the egpu with the go
same large display, 144hz. mouse intigrated ,plus they will bring updates to fix most issues, never know maybe better speaker driver
Well, I’ve had every one of these & the only one I still have is the Legion Go. It’s hands down the best handheld.
Now we need Legion GO vs ROG Ally vs Steam Deck OLED haha
I think the answer would be the same, depends on the needs on Windows
No... Stop
Yes
For OLED only? Lol
@@xpact83it’s not only the screen
its insane to me how much more expensive the Ally and GO are outside the US, they make the steamdeck OLED seem like a no brainer!
Have you seen the insane price of Steam Deck 512.GB in Norway? It cost 2-300 bucks more than both Rog Ally and Lenovo Legion Go.
Rog Ally and Lenovo Go sure is more wallet friendly than Steam Deck 512.GB.
I heard the opposite lol
Lol that’s assuming the Steam Deck is even available.
Here in south Africa the Ally is $850 tax included while the Steam Deck LCD 64gb is $800.
I know which one I’m getting
@@MuhluriYou have to compare Steam Deck 512.GB vs Rog Ally and Lenovo Go.
Steam Deck is the most expensive.
same in romania where I moved to, fucked up. They are selling the LCD old ass steamdeck that OBSOLETE in 2023 for 4500 LEI (900EUR) for 512 version when its more than two times cheaper in the US@@V3ntilator
Lenovo on the other hand plays smart and has very good pricing here and even from a reseller the maximum price increase is like 100EUR.
Now with christmass discount I could get Lenovo go 512gb version for 3400lei or aaprox 680EUR which is very close to the initial price, and over 200 CHEAPER than the steam deck LCD 512g, LOL - makes no sense to even look at SD
Legion go is king! But I also really like the deck oled. I wasn’t going to keep both but I think I’m gonna.
And all together cost me $1500.
if I could get the XG mobile for a sensible price I would have but over in the UK the pricing is crazy :(
Love my LEGO, using bios V28 just fix almost everything! New GPU drivers are grate! Waiting for the new Legion Space and I'm happy mobile PC gamer.
yeah the space is currently so slow! hope they can improve it
If you want a big handheld, you can't buy SD or Rog Ally.
Definitely picking up The Lenovo Go! Already own a Steam Deck and I love it! Would rather upgrade to the Lenovo Go than get the OLED Steam Deck.🤙
Thank you mate, that is really kind of you too say :)
Pleased to see you covering these devices!
Great video! Glad I chose wisely. I've already had a Steam Deck lcd for 2 yrs but just got a Legion Go and it's arriving today (can't wait!)
I stopped gaming after Dreamcast, then decided to get a Switch when it came out. The Switch and handheld gaming got me back in... Since then I got an og steam deck and and Ally. I love having all these options in handhelds. Can't wait to see what's next with these.
Which one do you prefer the most? Ally or Deck?
@@JamieR I use the Ally more than the Steam Deck at this point. I generally like the form factor and controls better on the Ally. Both are great. The Steamdeck is basically a console like the Switch. The Ally has a good bump in power. Also you can mess with settings and get it running how you want a bit more. It's just preference though.
Steam deck suits me better since I’ve already invested in a bunch of games on steam back when I had a gaming pc. Now it doesn’t feel like a waste. I can still play a lot of those games and don’t have to fork out 1000s on a gaming laptop or pc
My conclusions is the following:
-if you want to simply play games in bed or in the office, train, nature, etc.; Steam Deck is the best choice
-if you want to play games as well as do other things like checking e-mails and such then Legion GO is the perfect choice
-and if you want something like the Legion GO but a little more focused on the game side then choose the Ally
I personally like all of them, there is no obvious choice as what's the best one, they all fulfill the role they're meant to fulfill.
Ally is better, however the Steam Deck OLED doesn't eat up energy as much, so I choose that.
I'm running SteamOS on my Legion Go - Bazzite. It's pretty good and means you can forget about the awful bundled software. And working sleep. I've already the Go attempt to self detonate in the case when it was supposed to be sleeping.
Great vid, mate! The comparison of the three was great.
Thanks mate 👍
Thanks for posting in 4k. It looks crisp!
Fantastic video, very well done
Sent my Legion Go back, too big, too heavy, uncomfortable to hold for longer than 15min. The Go is more a stationary device and no handeld anymore... But the screen is awesome! ❤
Bought the Lenovo go and return it less than 24hrs. Now got the Asus M16 RTX 470. But still wondering if I really need one for just occasionally playing CS2
Can I ask what made you return it?
The Oled is on a whole other level than the original steam deck, I suggest testing one and giving your updated thoughts.
I sure will be, unfortunately I shot this before they released the steam deck oled
Just upgraded today. Its a huge improvement

On my portable gaming computer I already played at?
• Age of Empires II Definitive Edition

Steam Deck, right decision 100%
For Retro and indie games, Steam Deck OLED is absolutely the correct choice. Amazing screen, excellent ergonmics, amazing OS and support, best battery life etc.
massive comparison, thank you!
That lapel mic sounds good. What’s your set up like? I do unboxings and I use a shotgun mic which is…not an efficient way to do it
What does 15w vs 30w mean? And we can change that when we are docked right? And it doesn’t hurt this thing to use it while charging like a phone right?
steam deck oled is baller. having tons of fun. the screen is disgustingly good.
still nowhere close to x2 performance of GO or an ALLY for only 100$ more, no matter how you try to justify the purchase, if its good for you - I`m glad, but even with OLED steamdeck is obsolete and you cant even get stable 30 fps where I get 50-60 previously on my Ally, that I switched later to Legion GO which is a beast, but also doesnt turn off after 50-60 min of using it like I had to with Ally.
@@alexlalex5223really depends on what games you want to play but for me anything oled I’ll choose
Did they fix the disturbing fan noise or still it the same thing? Thanks for the video
nice breakdown on all 3, Lenovo swung big on the design choices and seems to be a great handheld.

They just announced upgraded steam deck oled Don’t expect anything new soon
@@gelul12GTA 6 is 2025 I could def see a new system then
Do any of these products do console to console link to play multiplayer? Reason I ask is when you’re in an area with no WiFi but have 5 people that have the same handheld that ability would be clutch.
yes that would be clutch. And there is no specific setup like that currently as it would more depend on the game than the console. You could easily create an adhoc network but the games would have to support LAN play. Most games now are lazy and just give online as the only option :(
I am super excited about this video. Only 20 seconds in.
Legion Go ftw
which should i buy ally or lenovo go? i already have a steam deck and i need a windows based portable console 😢 i know asus has the sd card issue but i really like its vrr while lenovo has the deadzone

Great review bro… but what did you do with those eyebrows!?! 😂😂 can’t unsee it now 😮
haha I wish it was something I chose to do, they just started falling out 😢
The Steam Deck Oled is brilliant and brighter. I had the legion go 3 times and took it back because of software issues. The Steam Deck OS is easier.
No, It’s older. It was shit when it came out.
steam deck head like years of headstart and it`s still nowhere stable or good, LITERALLY ANY CHINEESE win4 handheld or win3 will send steamdeck to the junkyard, any windows based handheld from the box like legion GO is 10x more stable and better than Steam OS after years of nonstop work to optimize.
Why you not testing in native resolution? What is point in overpaying for those displays?
you are never going to run any games at 1600p on an integrated gfx unless of course you like mine sweeper :) the panel scales well so would rather have a crisp looking desktop and then game at either 800p or 1200p, bear in mind on an 8.8" panel even 800p looks good
If you are good with PC then go with legion go.
The ALLY has been amazing to me.
Glad you could see my dark humour! I am not the best gamer 🤣
It is also very easy to upgrade the ssd, I put a 2tb in mine so now I don’t need to worry about out the sdcard 👍
If I had to get one I would go with? Steam Deck Oled or Lenovo Legion Go
With my rog Ally, I never have issues hitting the back buttons. I had problems hitting the screen on accident with the right stick with shooters, but what I did to fix that I got an extended one
I'm curious, are these all streamers or can any of these play games offline? I thought the steam deck did but it was unclear
I got the Nintendo Switch Oled, because of Zelda and battery life.
I have used all three for quite a while now and still prefer the legion just for that larger screen!

Haha that’s a mental price! Well done! In all honesty I think the mouse is a gimmick and would rather just use a Bluetooth mouse anyway
@MashITTech
Yeah, I didn't care for that feature. A few of my friends are blown away by how I was able to get it so cheap. They are pretty impressed with the LegionGo as well. Let's just hope that Lenovo cranks out the patches and gets the software side ironed out. Cheers!
Which will handle COD multi-player the best? Any of these handle warzone
How bad is that d-pad, that one actually has to use the analogue stick for fighting games? 😮
for fighting games I found the Go D Pad pretty unusable, its just too close to the body so you can't rotate it like you would on a deeper D pad, trying to pull off special moves is really tough..
At 14:41 showing Legion Go with only 2977mb video memory, Rog with 4004mb and Steam Deck with 6101mb.
Plastic is cheap, eye sore, shit screen, power may be ‘better’ but not by much.
still don't know when I will find time to play on some of these.
I'd go for steam deck.
I really want that legion GO but lenovo busted my and my friend's phone (similar model) after an update which resulted into noticeble faulty battery and unresponsive screen after a week. Both of us got the same issues. So I got some great Trust issues with Lenovo.
Sorry to hear that! That’s terrible 😞
What’s wrong with sleeping the rog allyy
So can I download steam on the Logitec go or what
if you meant legion go, yes, its just a windows machine :)
A performance spec people don't talk about often is the steam deck can still decode video faster than Ally and the Go since the custom SoC was optimized for that. It can decode 4K in under 1ms which is completely overkill. This makes it the lowest latency device when it comes to streaming with moonlight, achieving latencies of 4-7ms (roundtrip)
You actually get lower latency on the steam deck streaming at 60fps than playing 30fps native on any platform.
Even the fps mode isn't that novel anymore now that the Ally added gyro recently and SD had gyro since launch.
you sure? because as of now, there are zero videos that does comparison with regards to video encoding. just games games games

this dude benchmarked it
and the results are even better today with AV1 support from sunshine (but you need to stream from a 40 series card)
and maybe the oled is even faster now with the die shrink on top of that cuz these benchmarks were with the old version
and one last note, there are kernel patches on linux to lower input latency even further if you want to go the extra mile which was not done in this benchmark
The fan in my Legion Go is whisper quiet even under load. You might want to talk to Lenovo about a new fan.
I love my legion go but ill probably buy a steam deck for my wife since she a console player and isn't use to all the tweaks and stuff you have to do on windows .
are you getting the oled model?
@@MashITTech Just a LCD 64gb model and a SD card and call it a day 😂.
That's love 🤣
@@kdubspencer3390watching this video two days before finals and you comment cracked me tf up. Thanks lmao.
Good conclusion. Legion go easily the best atm
This comment ❤
Do you still have the annoying noise from the cooling while the Go is on low workload or did Lenovo patch that out?
@@Azhalan Never had that with my Legion Go. Might have to get a replacement unit.
Steam all the way
