Um Adum, I am a huge Minecraft fan... I've been an active player for over a decade now and this world and franchise mean so much to me. So with that said, and considering your reaction to this trailer which I've watched many times, I have to say... 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 This trailer is the worst thing I've ever seen and everyone involved should be on trial for crimes against humanity. This is a horrific corporate slop mockery of my favorite thing and I hated every frame of this trailer. Your reaction is MORE than justified and appropriate. In fact you underreacted. Words can't describe the total agony I felt watching this piece of shit promotional video.
I am a huge, diehard Beatles fan, and there generally seems to be this unspoken rule about the original Beatles recordings of their songs not being used for elevator music, mall and restaurant music, and especially movie and TV music, presumably out of respect. Usually it's their solo stuff or covers of their songs that make it into media trailers. You can imagine the look on my face when I saw this 😂
I'm also a massive Beatles fan and hearing one of my fave Beatle songs used poorly in this trailer is so weird. I can only imagine the studios paid millions just to get that licensing. I wish Paul & Ringo refused.
Met the director. Super nice guy, but damn this looks bad. But also i stand by Nacho Libre being good. Is it as good as Napoleon Dynamite? No, but it's about as charming.
Probably why they didnt even try with this movie because they know Minecraft is an extremely popular property and the publicity, whether good or bad, doesnt affect their wallet.
It does though. The movie is gonna be profitable but it won't remotely make as much as the mario movie. As stupid as that movie was, it didn't anger normies.
Idk if I’d say people hate Jack Black now. Like yes, he’s been in a ton of bad movies lately, but it’s not nearly as embarrassing as Jerry Seinfeld making Unfrosted. It’s not like whenever I see him in a project that I get annoyed at his acting, more that I get annoyed at studios making the garbage films he’s involved with.
I’m just tired of seeing him in every movie now. I love Tenacious D and some of his movies like School of Rock, Nacho Libre and Tropic Thunder, he seems like a nice dude but it gets old seeing him in everything after a while bc he just plays himself in every movie anyway
If you told 10-year-old me that the director of Napoleon Dynamite was directing the Minecraft movie I wouldn’t have been able to sleep for weeks out of excitement. Boy how the times change
This film has been in development since I was a freshman and was supposed be fully animated but development hell (and expiring rights) made it go the hybrid route
I kind of don't care how bad Jared Hess's current movies are because the fact he even gets to direct huge films like Minecraft is a testament to how incredible his first two films were. Napoleon and Nacho were so big he still gets to ride off their success two decades later. Plus I grew up in rural Idaho like he did, he's like a chilhood hero.
Imagine if your short film from film school turned out to be the only successful idea you could come up with in 20 years. Imagine never evolving and improving as a filmmaker 😭
Olivia, I really appreciate the work you do to take these long streams I don't have the time or attention span to watch, and give us so much more, well edited and strung together content, than if all we had was the main channel. It really is a distinction of quality/quantity but the quantity really doesn't detract like it has to inherently, I feel it really adds to the rare upload he creates. He's so everpresent on live but if you miss the stream you miss so much of his process and seeing your additions through editing and being diligient have helped me see him so much more in a way that truly adds to the experience of YMS no matter what I watch of his or if I have time to catch a stream. Thank you for what you do.
Remember how in the Mario movie we were saying “Jack Black could actually voice act”. I mean, he can, but I guess he’s settling for just “It’s Jack Black with different clothes on”
I'm not really familiar with Minecraft, and yet even I agree that this movie should have been animated. One comment on the official trailer put it best when they said that they just put Jack Black in a blue shirt and called him Steve.
Kind of a paradox that the easier to do special effect the worse movies have looked. Companies are always trying to do the bare minimum, and now so many movies look like superbowl commercials
I like Jack Black, but too much of something is never good. And since Jack was just in the Super Mario Bros. Movie (I thought he was fine in that) and then the recent Broderlands movie and now this... I don't even like Minecraft and even I know he shouldn't have been cast as Steve. Jack Black should take a break from movies for a while after this if he doesn't REALLY want to be the new Chris Pratt.
Nah there's definitely a lot of overlap with people that hatewatch shitty movies, and people who are curious if its as bad as they think it is and buy a ticket to check. Plus people who think it's shit but have children who want to see it, which will probably be the biggest group.
Has anyone ever noticed how funny it is that all of these defenders crying “THIS MOVIE ISN’T FOR YOU!! IT’S FOR KIDS!! MOVE OUT OF YOUR PARENTS BASEMENT AND LET PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS!!” I can guarantee you were all the same people who lost their shit and tore into the ugly movie Sonic design when that was revealed. Not a single person did I hear defending that old design compared to Minecraft. We went from people praising the Sonic 3 trailer and talking about how the Sonic movies “get video game movies right,” to now people saying “nobody wants to watch 2 hours of fully animated block characters in a Minecraft world. At that point just go play the games.”
I just realized that no joke in this trailer lands. Literally all 4 (5 if sheep counts?) fall flat. I don't know what kind of movies the director of Napoleon Dynamite has made afterwards, but Napoleon Dynamite is a very unserious movie (which works) and I wonder if it was a mistake not to have a more serious director's take on this film given how close this game is to people. Not that the current director's bad, just that his style might clearly be a wrong fit for this movie.
5:04 remember when they wanted to cast Steve Carrell as the main character as Steve in Minecraft? But now, it’s Jack Black taking over as Steve the main Minecraft character. Like why? I know Jack Black is a fun Tenacious rock star celebrity, but it’s getting tired. JB as Bowser in Mario Bros, then to annoying robot in Borderlands (which didn’t see it until later on in YMS watch-along), but now this? People will find Jack Black is very miscast as the character Steve until comes out next year so there will be issues for this weird adapted game craft movie. It would be better if Jason Momoa would be the right Steve casting instead of Black. Or put Paul Rudd or any fun likable actors to play Steve, but Jack could’ve even played that good.
Just waiting for the amazing moment when people finally stop actually giving the industry money and attention. That is how you defeat bad products being shoved down our throats. If nobody went to the cinema for this, nobody clicked the trailer, nobody commented, nobody gave a sh... we would be golden and maybe, just maybe it would stop happening you know.
Not only did they butcher Magical Mystery Tour, but it would have been so much better if they used the actual Minecraft soundtrack for this trailer. Like imagine Cat playing with an establishing shot of the Minecraft terrain. Y’know, to capture the excitement and wonder that many people felt playing the game as kids? I stopped caring about Minecraft years ago, but it was a big part of my childhood, so to see this wasted potential of a movie just puts a bad taste in my mouth.
this movie is not gonna make any money off of me if i watch it at all which is unlikely i will illegaly steal iff from the internet this is the only way medi like this should ever be consumed
The thing that gets me is we had the Lego movie and that was well done movie for both kids and adults and everything was done to look like Lego stop motion like people had seen and been doing for years on the internet. Minecraft, to me, is like a videogame version of Lego, with it's own plethora of animations and endless creativity. It just feels like a slap in the face to see it be turned into a basic and common denominator movie, and even sadder because Adam's right there will be parents who either take their kids because they want or just think their kids will wanna watch it. I'm also just tired of a lot of kids media just not trying to be genuinely good or give a kid something to think or process while watching a movie.
@ronthorn3 I've just been so curious as to how awful the movie will be as a finished product but hey I do not blame you at all lol. Question though, how is it still giving them money using the free ticket? Genuinely interested in how that works.
Gotta be honest, I was saying I was sick of the sight of Jack Black back in the Gulliver's Travel days when he was in three movies a year. Took a while but I think people are catching up with me. Rolled my eyes clean out of my head when they revealed him as Bowser, while everyone around me was insisting it was brilliant casting somehow.
At least Jack Black actually tried to do Bowser and he did it surprisingly well, he wasn't just Jack Black voicing Jack Black. Also, people made fun of the casting of Bowser just as much as Chris Pratt as Mario (maybe not as much, but people still thought it was a weird and dumb choice).
Actually I thought that casting is alright. But in all fairness to Jack black, whether you love him or hate him, It would be pretty hard for any actor to do this in live action.
Jack black is just the same as every other actor bro. Give him a low effort / cash grab script and a director that hasn’t made a good film in 20+ years and obviously he’s gonna suck
I was very disappointed when The trailer came out. Because while I'm not technically a Minecraft veteran, been playing for maybe 5 years at best, I was just like... "What" Because it really doesn't feel like Minecraft. You have the Magical Mystery Tour instead of a Minecraft song (Even if they couldn't use any of the OG's like Sweden and Wet Hands due to the whole rights thing, they could have done something like Smash Bros did and put in one of the other songs like Glider or Otherside. C'mon you have Piglins in your trailer, Pigstep would have been really cool!!) Is it just me or do the people just look so disinterested? And with the piglin thing, I think it might be trying to take the storyline of Minecraft Legends. But at the same time I don't understand why they didn't use pillagers instead. One of the things you can do in Minecraft is protect a village from pillager raids!
Yes but some of us have kids that want to see it in theaters. We don’t have a ton of money so my kid gets to pick what he wants to see every year only a few times a year… if this is what he wants to see we’ll see it.
I personally would rather watch a movie made entirely in the Minecraft engine than a movie attempting to represent the Minecraft visual style in photorealistic CGI.
Remember when Minecraft Story Mode happened and everyone dunked on it because the idea of a Minecraft Narrative Experience missed the mark super hard and felt kind-of out of date? Yeah, this is just that, but somehow worse.
this circus-y vibe of both steve carnival barking "step right this way" (it's such an important part of his character apparently it needed to be said twice in one trailer even) and magical mystery tour is so unfitting for the minecraft a e s t h e t i c lmao. I thought at worst it would've just been bland but at best, it could've been the next Lego movie. That trailer confirmed to me that it's neither. Not seeing it.

idk why i find this so funny
saythatagain.mp4
It feels like this was directed over zoom. I swear the director wasn't in the same room. It feels so disconnected from itself and everything.
It makes me feel thoroughly uncomfortable.
Was there even a costume department?! What is this?? UGHHH
@@SharkFishFace Costume department was "put blue sweater on jack black".
Um Adum, I am a huge Minecraft fan... I've been an active player for over a decade now and this world and franchise mean so much to me. So with that said, and considering your reaction to this trailer which I've watched many times, I have to say... 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
This trailer is the worst thing I've ever seen and everyone involved should be on trial for crimes against humanity. This is a horrific corporate slop mockery of my favorite thing and I hated every frame of this trailer. Your reaction is MORE than justified and appropriate. In fact you underreacted. Words can't describe the total agony I felt watching this piece of shit promotional video.
Next level dogshit. It's like the OG Sonic trailer but a thousand times worse.
when I first saw the trailer I genuinely didn't understand who jack black was supposed to be until he blatantly said "I am steve"
That's kinda the joke. It's not a great joke but still it's probably going to be the best joke in the entire movie.
@@Missjunebugfreakbeatles songs' rights were bought by Michael Jackson
Met the director. Super nice guy, but damn this looks bad. But also i stand by Nacho Libre being good. Is it as good as Napoleon Dynamite? No, but it's about as charming.
His short film Ninety Five Senses he did was great and then he ends up with this. Quite tragic
Im scrolling to see if any Gentlemen Broncos stan will stand up
What’s funny is that there are actually plenty of decent Minecraft short movies on the internet, most of which are entirely animated 3d or with LEGO.
"The Director of Napoleon Dynamite has never made another good Movie since."
Nacho Libre: "Say that again to my face?".
People please don’t watch this in the theatre. In general if you can.
Also, why not make it animated like the Mario movie instead of this bland looking live action with uncanny valley CGI characters hybrid?
Do you think that whoever made this gives a quanta of a fuck about filmmaking?
I think stop motion would have worked for this
Idk if I’d say people hate Jack Black now.
Can't believe the Borderlands movie has steep competition already.
They've captured Ugly Sonic in a bottle, it seems
Much like Adum, I have no expectations or interest in this movie and somehow I still feel disappointed. How is that even possible?
This film has been in development since I was a freshman and was supposed be fully animated but development hell (and expiring rights) made it go the hybrid route
I kind of don't care how bad Jared Hess's current movies are because the fact he even gets to direct huge films like Minecraft is a testament to how incredible his first two films were. Napoleon and Nacho were so big he still gets to ride off their success two decades later. Plus I grew up in rural Idaho like he did, he's like a chilhood hero.
Jared Hess really went from Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre to this abomination
and he recently did that short film Ninety Five Senses which is great but then he ends up doing this?!
$
@@thecinematicmind the writers from that are even working on this like wth
He also directed a garbage heist movie with Owen Wilson and Zack Galafananakasss. It was unbearably bad
I mean, he can, but I guess he’s settling for just “It’s Jack Black with different clothes on”
Can he really voice act tho
@@galleryofrogues Yeah, I thought he did good as Bowser, he also voiced Slappy in Goosebumps. They just choose to make him sound like Jack Black
I'm not really familiar with Minecraft, and yet even I agree that this movie should have been animated. One comment on the official trailer put it best when they said that they just put Jack Black in a blue shirt and called him Steve.
They couldn't get Miley Cyrus, so they got Jason Mamoa and dressed him as Hannah Montana with her hairstyle and clothes.
It's Hannah Mamoa.
Movies like this make me REALLY glad I don't have kids.
SAME
It doesn't help that this movie was delayed for YEARS and it shows.
Correction: he hasn’t made a good movie since Nacho Libre. Love that goofy movie lol
YES, Nacho Libre is slept on idc what anyone says
Kind of a paradox that the easier to do special effect the worse movies have looked. Companies are always trying to do the bare minimum, and now so many movies look like superbowl commercials
Olivia's new avatar is so dang cute.
The group calling it shit and the group buying tickets are not the same people.
Idk, I’m calling it shit but I’m still gonna go see it I can’t not
@@Wyattporter why??
@@Wyattporter Pirating exists :))
Nah there's definitely a lot of overlap with people that hatewatch shitty movies, and people who are curious if its as bad as they think it is and buy a ticket to check. Plus people who think it's shit but have children who want to see it, which will probably be the biggest group.
@@BolbiiS It's like they forgot that's what happened with Morbius.
the animation team from those Captainsparklez videos have more creativity than Warner Bros.
1:17 2004, it was twenty years ago. Gosh
What are you talking about. "Tool bag" was 10/10 comedy gold.
It was never confirmed steve carrell was going to play Steve tho, he was just going to get cast as a then unannounced character
Black woman appears on screen for 1 second: “Why’d this have to get political”
lmao
I pray to god this movie is another Morbius and it does so bad they re release it only for it to flop worse
I stopped caring about Minecraft years ago, but it was a big part of my childhood, so to see this wasted potential of a movie just puts a bad taste in my mouth.
borderlands was a win for us since it didnt make money but now this will so hollywood will never learn
Anything you can think about, you can make. "Make a better movie" *thrown out window meme*
I. am S T E V E.
Does this Minecraft movie look like Minecraft? Would people know that this is a Minecraft movie without knowing the name of the trailer?
it looks what ai image generator would give me if i type in minecraft world
this movie is not gonna make any money off of me
if i watch it at all which is unlikely i will illegaly steal iff from the internet
this is the only way medi like this should ever be consumed
Okay but hear me out, I use my free ticket from AMC A-List to see it and give them $0🤔
That’s technically still giving the movie money. I have regal unlimited and I ain’t going to see this trash.
@ronthorn3 I've just been so curious as to how awful the movie will be as a finished product but hey I do not blame you at all lol. Question though, how is it still giving them money using the free ticket? Genuinely interested in how that works.
Pretty sure they still pay the studio for your visit even though you aren't paying.
@EdgieAlias Aw damn well that's a shame 🫠 Now I'll never see this masterpiece
"What"
Because it really doesn't feel like Minecraft. You have the Magical Mystery Tour instead of a Minecraft song (Even if they couldn't use any of the OG's like Sweden and Wet Hands due to the whole rights thing, they could have done something like Smash Bros did and put in one of the other songs like Glider or Otherside. C'mon you have Piglins in your trailer, Pigstep would have been really cool!!)
Is it just me or do the people just look so disinterested?
And with the piglin thing, I think it might be trying to take the storyline of Minecraft Legends. But at the same time I don't understand why they didn't use pillagers instead. One of the things you can do in Minecraft is protect a village from pillager raids!
I came to hear YMS destroy the Minecraft movie trailer. I didn't expect Nacho Libre (Jared Hess's second masterpiece) to catch a stray bullet.
The director of _Napoleon Dynamite_ directed the _Minecraft_ movie?!!!!
That's so depressing
"hasn't made a good movie since napoleon dynamite" napoleon dynamite was never a good movie.
_"He's the new Chris Pratt"_
Oof! And the irony that he just worked with said person in the Mario movie.
That’s not even a good thing, lol
@@galleryofrogues I know
Just for reference, wb would prefer you purchase this digitally over going to the theater as they will get a larger portion of the money that way.
Remember when Minecraft Story Mode happened and everyone dunked on it because the idea of a Minecraft Narrative Experience missed the mark super hard and felt kind-of out of date?
Yeah, this is just that, but somehow worse.
thanks for the fast edit olivia 😊
this circus-y vibe of both steve carnival barking "step right this way" (it's such an important part of his character apparently it needed to be said twice in one trailer even) and magical mystery tour is so unfitting for the minecraft a e s t h e t i c lmao. that’s not Steve saying that it’s just part of the song
You're basëd for that last part.

1:31 Finally, somebody said it.
I thought at worst it would've just been bland but at best, it could've been the next Lego movie. That trailer confirmed to me that it's neither. Not seeing it.

Good luck with that original Magical Mystery Tour film then because that soundtrack is far better than the actual film.
Im surprised they haven't turned the comments off yet lol
