The PAC 12 would then be- STAN, Cal, OREGON st, WSU, SDS, BOISE, FRESNO, SMU, Tulane, UTSA, UTEP, and TULSA ( again, a couple of these teams could be switched, around, but BOISE, FRESNO, SDS, SMU, would have to be in there for sure) This is all contingent on APPLE ( at least) and maybe ESPN giving them at least 15 mil per school, with a boost if they can get the subscriptions higher. ESPN would pay 50 -60, ( at 12 teams) and apple 100 ( 120 for 12 ) per year.

However the disadvantage of that is, it would be unlikely that they keep their Power 5 status. However there's no guarantee that even if they go through all the trouble of rebuilding the PAC 12 that they would still be able to maintain their Power 5 status. I would almost say that no matter what, it's a forgone conclusion that the PAC 12 maintaining their status as a power 5 conference is very slim.
these schools need to have basketball and football in one conference, then do regional conferences (like the old days) for non revenue sports. its the best way to handle it. you still have the two big sports funding the little sports, but it cuts way down on time and travel for women's field hockey, and syncronized water dancing.
The stadium is a revenue generator, the bonds are not the issue. The staff and other budget items are the issue if Oregon State has a big drop in revenue from other sources.
Wazzu is in a very similar situation with their stadium renovation from a decade ago. Still think Wazzu and OSU should go to ESPN as a package deal as independents to cover the late-night slot every single week. And I highly disagree with the idea that the two schools don’t have a good TV market, since you aren’t counting the two very large markets that contain the vast majority of their alumni. Wazzu in particular has shown they can carry Seattle almost as well as UW. It’s like claiming Florida State doesn’t carry the South Florida market because Tallahassee is eight hours from Miami.
Despite the Men's Basketball National Championship locally the UConn Athletic department is bleeding money due to our switch to FBS football 20 years ago and the subsequent venue built 20 years ago assuming the at the time growing football would at least be bowl eligible most years. Since the ending of the Big East football conference (which got us some solid talent from florida) the football program went from a Fiesta Bowl to rock bottom 1-2 win seasons. The costs to maintain the stadium and D-1 travel/amenities costs more than the revenue coming in. Then combine the fact that the Athletic Department has to pay Kevin Ollie back more $ after losing in court. This is why I was hoping UConn could make a major conference and generate more revenue to offset huge losses in athletics.
New England is not a college sports area. Other than UConns NCAA Basketball. UConn, UMass should have never went to FBS, and Boston College is no good. So nobody there watches local college football and since the patriots are no good, football is not that important there. Texas is where all three HS, College and Pro football matters. There are High School stadiums in Texas, plural, multiple, that cost hundreds of millions, and nobody complains. My home town is maybe 75,000 and we have four stadiums, nobody shared and we have field turf and a 60 yard field turn indoor practice facility. The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t have one until a few years ago.
The PAC has 2 years of probation to maintain their power 5 status, so technically they just need to added 2 to 3 schools that could gain P5 status within that time frame (though I don't know if that is possible).

It wasn't just Clemson and FSU voting against Cal and Stanford. UNC and NCST also voted against. And EVERY ACC school has tied their GOR to the ACC through the 2035-36 academic year, which makes leaving that conference EXTREMELY cost prohibitive.
They will eventually figure a way out. It would have been fantastic for FSU, Clemson, and UNC if NC State also voted to add Stanford and Cal because then the ACC would be forcing them to fly all the way out to California to play the Bay Area schools against their will. Adding Stanford and Cal doesn't add any positive revenue to the conference, it probably costs more money to fly across the country to play them. They would be able to argue that the ACC's old GOR is void because they never signed a new one after the ACC chose to change their original contract to a new one, by adding new members. By the time they figured it all out in court in 10 years they would be long gone. The ACC probably wouldn't even exist by then. Even if they lost in court they would be placed on some sort of affordable payment plan to pay for damages.
To be fair, they have been criticized for years for not investing. UCF, Cincy, and Houston all began investing into their athletic programs that make money in the last decade. Cincy did it after being kicked out of the P6 club when the Big East folded. UCF only had one year in the Big East, but they have been football crazed for years. Seriously it's kind of scary how big that fanbase is. Houston has long been a sleeping giant imo. Finally woken up. So it's a tough situation Oregon State finds itself in. They want to improve their football program. Timing just was unfortunate.
What makes this a mess is the fact that this only has to do with football, has nothing to do with basketball or any of the other sports and my problem with that is for instance, if gonzaga wanted to join the pac-4 the fbs conference would still be at 4, + in bb the ncaa has control over the conferences while at fbs level they dont, thats why theres no official ncaa football tournament and theres the cfb playoff which id still prefer more but heres how id do it, have separate conferences for each sport for example you have the pac-4 football conference but at bb level you still have the pac-12, kinda like notre dame, bb there in the acc but in football there independent

totally agree. i've been saying this for past couple years. There should be 2 or 3 different tier playoffs. Gold, Silver, maybe Bronze. If you're a Boise St, Oregon State, Tulane, East Carolina, etc. you want a playoff for the schools ranked 50-100.
History is repeating itself, as this is the situation for the creation of the FCS in the first place. The NCAA should of put limits on the number schools moving into FBS to begin with (as now the FBS has been watered down). It took long enough for the NCAA realize their mistake and thus they are increasing the requirements to move from FCS to FBS. Kinda of too late though given the situation we are in.

I think that is a myth. Oregon State has a very good TV market and the Ducks TV market is fickle. Their fans are all fair weather fans and they jump hard off the bandwagon when they lose, while Oregon State fans stay very faithful through anything.

As a Beavs fan, I am done watching the rest of college football. The sport is headed in the wrong direction where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. These blueblood teams will have it good but ultimately, people will lose interest watching UCLA vs Rutgers. Never mind the fans not traveling for those games.
No, FSU is more valuable then Miami. FSU is a large state school with a large alumni and fan base. Miami is a rinky dink snooty elite private school with a tiny alumni base and an unfaithful fan base that hasn't been seen in 20+ years. They both have similar academic ratings and Miami already has their AAU membership. FSU meets all the qualifications, they just need to get voted in and the B1G has the academic resources and influence to help them get it done. The B1G should probably take both of them but if they can only add one then the correct answer is FSU.
In any scenario I expect Stanford and Cal to stay together. The annual Cal-Stanford game sells out and is the only game that either school really cares about. Going independent is a tall task. Currently the only independents in football are Army West Point, Notre Dame, UConn and UMass.

If you look behind the curtain in the B1G, you will see about 7-8 pathetic teams. SEC is far tougher than B1G. B12 has no blue bloods but good teams top to bottom.
ACC has a tv contract, and if 4 schools leave, that’s fine. They can add the best 9 football schools in the Midwest and west schools. They will have until 2036 to build their programs. The Notre Dame upcoming deal is the elephant in the room. NBC will probably offer 40-50 million plus ACC 10 million. Can Notre Dame stay independent? at 50 million a year and be happy while the Big 10 and SEC will be around 80 million.
I think the BIG would take Georgia Tech and Miami over FSU and Clemson. That plants flags in the 2 biggest cities in the SEC. They want into our backyard for recruiting.

To my mind we already have a power 2.5 only and the B12/ACC count as the half. Going back to 1998 thru last year, (the 1st year of the BCS championship games) and a nice round 25 years, there have been 250 potential teams ranked in the top 10 in the final AP poll. 67.2% of them in 2024 will be in either the SEC or B10, (36.4 in SEC and 30.8 in the B10), that leaves only 32.3% for every other school, ie less than 1/3rd. The B12 will be 12%, the ACC will be 11.6% and everyone else will be just 9.2% and that includes ND, Marshall, Boise a couple times, Tulane 100% of the national Titles will be in the SEC, B10 and ACC and only 2 of the potential 50 teams to play in the championship game come from outside those 3 conferences, TCU last year who got beat in a historic beat down and ND back in 2012 who lost by 28. to my mind the B12 is barely hanging on to P5 status and if FSU, Clemson and Miami leave the ACC they become 2nd class as well

Those Big 12 teams aren’t relevant. Eventually the B10 & SEC will decide they don’t need anyone else but each other. 40-48 schools will ditch the NCAA, the Big 12, ACC, whatever is left of the PAC, and form their own league of college football. Playing strictly each other and by their own rules. What we are witnessing are the labor pains of the birth of a new college football era.
Why do people assume that the B1G is going to wait for the SEC to play catch-up, by adding more members, before they expand further? They don't have to have an equal number of members because this isn't a fantasyland. This is big business worth Billions of dollars with the future of college football at stake. The B1G negotiated a better TV deal that already has the escalator clauses built into it to add new members because they planned ahead. ESPN is broke because they can't even afford to pay the SEC for a 9th conference game. So the B1G isn't going to wait around while valuable additions are available if they are going to take over the sport before the SEC because the NCAA refuses to do anything. Once the B1G adds ND then it's over because the SEC will never be able to catch up to them financially no matter who they add. The B1G needs to expand their national footprint into the South for the recruiting.

It wasn't just Clemson and FSU voting against Cal and Stanford. UNC and NCST also voted against. And EVERY ACC school has tied their GOR to the ACC through the 2035-36 academic year, which makes leaving that conference EXTREMELY cost prohibitive.
They will eventually figure a way out. It would have been fantastic for FSU, Clemson, and UNC if NC State also voted to add Stanford and Cal because then the ACC would be forcing them to fly all the way out to California to play the Bay Area schools against their will. Adding Stanford and Cal doesn't add any positive revenue to the conference, it probably costs more money to fly across the country to play them. They would be able to argue that the ACC's old GOR is void because they never signed a new one after the ACC chose to change their original contract to a new one, by adding new members. By the time they figured it all out in court in 10 years they would be long gone. The ACC probably wouldn't even exist by then. Even if they lost in court they would be placed on some sort of affordable payment plan to pay for damages.
To be fair, they have been criticized for years for not investing. UCF, Cincy, and Houston all began investing into their athletic programs that make money in the last decade. Cincy did it after being kicked out of the P6 club when the Big East folded. UCF only had one year in the Big East, but they have been football crazed for years. Seriously it's kind of scary how big that fanbase is.
Houston has long been a sleeping giant imo. Finally woken up.
So it's a tough situation Oregon State finds itself in. They want to improve their football program. Timing just was unfortunate.

What makes this a mess is the fact that this only has to do with football, has nothing to do with basketball or any of the other sports and my problem with that is for instance, if gonzaga wanted to join the pac-4 the fbs conference would still be at 4, + in bb the ncaa has control over the conferences while at fbs level they dont, thats why theres no official ncaa football tournament and theres the cfb playoff which id still prefer more but heres how id do it, have separate conferences for each sport for example you have the pac-4 football conference but at bb level you still have the pac-12, kinda like notre dame, bb there in the acc but in football there independent
I truly believe they are going to have to redefine the divisions, Tier I and Tier II FBS and let the smaller schools play for their own championship. I would love to see relegation
totally agree. i've been saying this for past couple years. There should be 2 or 3 different tier playoffs. Gold, Silver, maybe Bronze. If you're a Boise St, Oregon State, Tulane, East Carolina, etc. you want a playoff for the schools ranked 50-100.

History is repeating itself, as this is the situation for the creation of the FCS in the first place. The NCAA should of put limits on the number schools moving into FBS to begin with (as now the FBS has been watered down). It took long enough for the NCAA realize their mistake and thus they are increasing the requirements to move from FCS to FBS. Kinda of too late though given the situation we are in.

@@tomsettles6873no, you don’t, especially if you are a team like OrST. FCS and D-II have been dying for years, bleeding teams to FBS, D-III and dropping football altogether. Once you hew teams off from the big show all the money dries up and what is left over isn’t enough to cover the women’s scholarship obligations that the number of men’s scholarships football requires generates. Especially if the new super-FCS has the same number of schollys as FBS.

This program is now a top notch program with a great new facility and one of the best young coaches in the NCAA. I really hate to see them lose what they have now started.

Why does Oregon have a good TV market, but Oregon State doesn't? They are in the same state a short distance from each other. Oregon and Oregon State's alumni live in the same places.

I think that is a myth. Oregon State has a very good TV market and the Ducks TV market is fickle. Their fans are all fair weather fans and they jump hard off the bandwagon when they lose, while Oregon State fans stay very faithful through anything.

As a Beavs fan, I am done watching the rest of college football. The sport is headed in the wrong direction where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. These blueblood teams will have it good but ultimately, people will lose interest watching UCLA vs Rutgers. Never mind the fans not traveling for those games.
Swap Out FSU with Miami for Accuracy
No, FSU is more valuable then Miami. FSU is a large state school with a large alumni and fan base. Miami is a rinky dink snooty elite private school with a tiny alumni base and an unfaithful fan base that hasn't been seen in 20+ years. They both have similar academic ratings and Miami already has their AAU membership. FSU meets all the qualifications, they just need to get voted in and the B1G has the academic resources and influence to help them get it done. The B1G should probably take both of them but if they can only add one then the correct answer is FSU.

ACC makes should make sense to Cal/Stanford - great academics. Bring in entire PAC 4 and rename ACC and it might be salvageable
In any scenario I expect Stanford and Cal to stay together. The annual Cal-Stanford game sells out and is the only game that either school really cares about. Going independent is a tall task. Currently the only independents in football are Army West Point, Notre Dame, UConn and UMass.

If you look behind the curtain in the B1G, you will see about 7-8 pathetic teams. SEC is far tougher than B1G. B12 has no blue bloods but good teams top to bottom.

ACC has a tv contract, and if 4 schools leave, that’s fine. They can add the best 9 football schools in the Midwest and west schools. They will have until 2036 to build their programs. The Notre Dame upcoming deal is the elephant in the room. NBC will probably offer 40-50 million plus ACC 10 million. Can Notre Dame stay independent? at 50 million a year and be happy while the Big 10 and SEC will be around 80 million.
I genuinely do not think FSU is gonna go to the B1G. I say swap UNC and FSU and this is good.

Relegation is the most fair/equitable format across the board, and the ratings and national interest would be BONKERS. But it would take at least 1/3 of the P5 presidents to willingly go against their egos and wallets, which will never happen

There's a reason why he's making that statement in the video. The SEC has zero reasons to include FSU. However, the market that Miami is in is prime. It's not about popularity or who has the larger fanbase, etc., It's about money. The market that Miami is in would add to the SEC's bottom line. The market that FSU is in is already under their belt. If they add FSU they would be paying FSU more than they'd make by adding them. This move makes zero sense.

There are only so many players who are truly pursuing real degrees at a place like Stanford and playing football at an NIL or NFL draft level. Time to let go of this idea your elite players are true student athletes. More like exceptionally athletic students. Right. Because Big 12 schools want to go to a conference stuck in a GoR until 2036 (with half of the schools trying to get out) while the Big 12 will be renegotiating their media rights long before then. Not to mention, the Big 12 is already making more per school than the ACC.

To my mind we already have a power 2.5 only and the B12/ACC count as the half. Going back to 1998 thru last year, (the 1st year of the BCS championship games) and a nice round 25 years, there have been 250 potential teams ranked in the top 10 in the final AP poll. 67.2% of them in 2024 will be in either the SEC or B10, (36.4 in SEC and 30.8 in the B10), that leaves only 32.3% for every other school, ie less than 1/3rd. The B12 will be 12%, the ACC will be 11.6% and everyone else will be just 9.2% and that includes ND, Marshall, Boise a couple times, Tulane
100% of the national Titles will be in the SEC, B10 and ACC and only 2 of the potential 50 teams to play in the championship game come from outside those 3 conferences, TCU last year who got beat in a historic beat down and ND back in 2012 who lost by 28.

Only a couple of teams from each of the SEC and B1G make up those stats as well. Basically there are about 10 top tier teams and the rest can’t compete for a championship.

IN the B10 it is 16 of their 18 have at least 1 year in the top 10 since 1998, (only Indiana and MD have missed and they have a 12th and 11th respectively in that time)

Those Big 12 teams aren’t relevant. Eventually the B10 & SEC will decide they don’t need anyone else but each other. 40-48 schools will ditch the NCAA, the Big 12, ACC, whatever is left of the PAC, and form their own league of college football. Playing strictly each other and by their own rules. What we are witnessing are the labor pains of the birth of a new college football era.
No OSU’s budget issues didn’t just happen. It’s been years in the making and wasn’t helped by their Leadership’s bad decisions and or lack there of.

Why do people assume that the B1G is going to wait for the SEC to play catch-up, by adding more members, before they expand further? They don't have to have an equal number of members because this isn't a fantasyland. This is big business worth Billions of dollars with the future of college football at stake. The B1G negotiated a better TV deal that already has the escalator clauses built into it to add new members because they planned ahead. ESPN is broke because they can't even afford to pay the SEC for a 9th conference game. So the B1G isn't going to wait around while valuable additions are available if they are going to take over the sport before the SEC because the NCAA refuses to do anything. Once the B1G adds ND then it's over because the SEC will never be able to catch up to them financially no matter who they add. The B1G needs to expand their national footprint into the South for the recruiting.
