Pep is more focused on players who won't screw simple passes up, rather than players who can play pinpoint 40 yard diagonals. Considering the precursor to misplacing a simple pass is usually a bad first touch (which themselves are often a result of a poor pass from a teammate), it makes perfect sense that Pep goes for capable dribblers with great ball control. He has done this for most of his managerial career. Their signings can often do the pinpoint 40 yard diagonals too - but that's very much secondary and down to the calibre of player he tends to have, especially with KDB at his disposal.
Except for haaland whose first touch is worse than some Sunday league players and his passing is average. But hey he gets his job done. Pep does not look for specific type of player,he looks at a player and thinks if the player can remove weakness on the field. It was obvious that pep needed a true no 9, so he signed haaland regardless of his preferences. That is what makes him a good coach because he signs players according to his needs not his desires. He saw that he could not make progress on the field with the ball so he signed players that could help him do that exact thing. His idea is simple but a lot of thinking and work is necessary to make that simple idea work.

The reason Spurs lost during the FA Cup was due to Ange himself. Had he not tried to copy Pep, maybe he would have won that game.
Now they can lol. They conceded the fewest shot against in europes top 5 leagues and barely conceded a goal from a counter attack since they went on their crazy run of victories . Having dribblers and ball carriers will make City unbeatable
I think the right way is to let players drive the tactics. I want to implement very specific tactics in EA FC 24 but basically can't. At least we should have Football Manager kind of tactics
Where did it take Aston Villa? Nowhere... So focus on details how he is becoming a better footballer individually and team wise. Aston Villa Grealish to me is the same as Zaha no one doubts his ability, now and again he will stand up when playing big teams because it allows them to flourish, it's what they do but come end of the season with all that carry and dribbly, not on the assist chart s and goals. So please guys don't go there, he is a key player to what city want and believe
The reason why pep will be successful every time is because he was the pivot of Barca. He understands the role of off the ball and extensive ball retention
I think this is arguably the final form or close to the final form. All these dribbling boys who can’t be pressed will likely just be too good to press and if you put the tactical genius of pep into it will likely mean serious dominance again
I agree bro. For me , this is the true Prime of Pep. If this team reallly peak , it will be the most balanced team he’s ever managed : from attack to midfield to defence in terms of almost everything. The players that are in that team are very vertical and can carry the ball a lot in transition .
@@omariblake21 Agreed. I would say this could be the best team ever defensively. They can really finish this season with 15-20 goals conceded in the league. As Mikel Arteta once said, Pep is the most defensive manager even tho he plays nice attacking football, just because the more you have ball the less likely you are to concede. Pep got amazing, amazing defence and a very good midfield now on top of that. Combine that with pretty lethal KDB + Haaland + Foden + Alvarez + Doku up front, who will not miss their chances like Sterling or Jesus did, and this team could really do the treble again. If they do so, Pep will most definitely be considered the best manager of all time, KDB will be considered the best PL player of all time and this team will be the best team of all time, with only Barca 2010 being close to it.
No, perfect dominance is only achieved in his book when all players have the mindset of a holding midfielder like Busquets, and can comfortably play street football at the back 😂😂
Much needed video, because I for one was really puzzled by the reversion to a double pivot. In 19/20 when they did that they played some of the worst football of pep's tenure.
This is why Pep is the greatest manager of all time, He is a trend setter, box mid-fields with inverted fullback that can go into the mid-field or push up with a high line whilst building from the back was his tactic, dominated England with it and what do you know everyone is trying to hold possession, with box mid-fielders and inverting fullbacks. But while other managers try to copy him what they don't do that Pep does is while he makes a tactic he knows how to destroy it and counter it just to make sure no one can use his tactic against him. now we see him make a whole new formation with the 3-2-4-1 or a 3-2-5 (i have heard it called different things) no matter what you call it he invented it and we will soon see others copy because while other managers may be good, they all copy the one great, hell even Arsenal's great sesson last year was using Pep tactics, but all times they went up against Pep they got slaughted since Pep knows how to counter it. No other manager has had the amount of sway in world football the same way as Pep, this man has gotten national teams, super clubs and crap clubs all the way down in the national league trying to play the Pep way.
Actually this is already happening. Rodri has three goals and an assist in his last 4 games, he says he is now more free to attack because Kovacic is more defensive. With clubs not seeing this at all - defenders marking Kovacic who also likes to go upfront (without creating threat) and Rodri normally marking no10s who are lazy to defend, opening space for him.
@@rudyverse Kovacic was player shouldn’t not have sold. With all the young players without proper leaders around apart from Silva and Sterling. He has fitted in that city midfield like he has been playing all his life. Made me realised only players with high football IQ can intergrate seamlessly and Akanji hit the ground running similarly. Interestingly he is human calculator which just shows how intelligent he is. Some players take longer not on that wavelength but get there with time.
@@Saeroye Yes, Grealish is a good example. It took some time for him to understand his role but now he is a regular starter for the best team in the world, even tho he doesnt score or assist, and there is a reason for it. City have Haaland for goals so Grealish doesnt need to score just help the team. And he does his part very naturally and very good now. Pretty much impossible for opponents to take the ball off him.
It takes Pep almost 5 seasons before he created the perfect Man City Squad. The board and fans of Man City must be really commended for their support and patience
This statement is a joke. Pep won domestic treble in the 3 and centurions 2nd year. Some of you don't do any research but just talk nonsense on the internet.
Well, he won 2 Premier Leagues with 198 points in total, plus a domestic treble. After going trophyless during the Covid season, he won the league again and reached the UCL final for the first time, all while playing beautiful football, breaking record after recordand destroying teams left and right. It's not like he wasn't bringing in any trophies during those years for fans to hate him or something.
It makes so much sense tho last season they focused on one goal, getting the ball to Haaland and a goal was inevitable, but as we saw in later half of the season all the teams started cutting those supply lines by overwhelming Haaland so it only makes sense to get dribblers who will sort out the defence in 1v1 situations until there are only a few remaining to mark Haaland in the final 3rd where Haaland is literally unstoppable
I find it quite interesting that guardiola is playing Ederson as a normal field player in Possesion. That's soemthing the Hamburger SV under Tim Walter is playing in the second Bundesliga for like 3 years. This was alot discussed in the last years in germany and makes a really good defensiv shape against counterattacks extremely important. Really looking forward how this will develop over the whole season in the premier League.
I also noticed this, that unlike his usual preference of elite oassers with disciplined play, he opted for unpredictable dribblers. I thought he'd have signed JWP as a KDB backup/competition.
He's at West Ham. Definitely not City level tbf. Nunes is still young, was being used too defensively in a poor Wolves side. They're City, they scout reasonably well and will likely get a good return on their investment.
Great vid again. Perhaps we'll see Pep favouring a diamond midfield like the UCL final Ederson Stones Dias Gvardiol Nunes Rodri Kovacic Foden Bernardo Haaland Grealish With great depth in Walker, Akanji, Ake, Phillips, De Bruyne, Doku and Alvarez. Maybe we need to buy one more attacker
The only way I see Doku working for City is Guardiola turning him into his new Sterling. Because keeping Doku playing the way he is will only create problems. Doku is a great dribbler but his crossing and passing needs a lot of work. No doubt, within a season, Pep will have him passing like Ribery. But I have to see him play to understand because it doesn’t seem as if this will work.
Such an electric player more talented and faster than Sterling especially can score with his weak foot. Raw but under Pep he can mould him to be best version he can be. Very exciting this season. I have this have feeling against top six team like Arsenal for example they might do what Bayern game play them on counter. City was up there in goals from counter attacking moment.
NGL only Klopp system could counter Pep's craziness. Too bad Liverpool got no depth, Klopp is always only play his trusted starting eleven. This got really bad onnthe fitness of the players.
Man. City have had for second year in a row the best transfer market. They add players they really need, and have built an even more incredible team than last season. In terms of squad potential, Citizens are aiming for another treble. There is no discussion as of today. They're the best team in the world.
Some casuals think his style is just possession tiki taka and have no idea how hes adapted through the years to stay on top of the meta snd reinvent himself again and again
dribbly boys in all three lines of play, now the next thing he’d probably want is a dribbly GK who carries the ball past the forward press into the midfield 😂😂😂
Pep has many themes in his city era. 1. Speedy and one touch passing boys.with the Sterling and sane co 2.leaving traditional tiki gala and provides more vertical long balls 3. Big powerful boys with the 4 cbs a big striker and midfielders in rodeo and haaland 4. Now the dribblers. Essentially all players in the starting eleven can dribble now😂
If all the new additions have all got progressive carries in their game, kinda takes the shine out of Grealish imo. One of the things he had gunning for him was that. Guess he’s got to step with G/A rn
It’s all to make up for haalands lack of involvement in build up. Compared to peps previous midfieldy formation where everyone’s involved they’re now essentially playing with 10 men so you need to dribble players and involve your keeper as much as possible to break the marking system and level the playing field because passing alone will leave haaland isolated and city outnumbered.
So Pep figured out that playing the ball wide, so the winger can run forward to then turn his back to the opposition full back, and pass backwards so the player behind him can try again on the other wing, is not effective... genius. I mean... imagine carrying the ball forward. Mind-blowing.
Pep always goes for players I've never heard of and he brings the beast out of them🔥🔥 on the other hand my fookin manager ETH goes for players who are famous and they just flop🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ at this point I don't think he is a tactical genius at all.
Kovacic carrying ball is lovely to watch. He's just starting 💀. Gomez and Philips should probably get some time to shine well. Then I wouldn't even put another treble race off the table.
that's because you weren't even born or watched football before pep football went through immense transition before pep, under legendary managers who pep learnt from each generation there's a manager that will try to fundamentally change football, last decade was mainly thanks to cryuff, you can watch videos for yourself and see how much past managers, especially Cruyff, managed to change the game and make it the way it is now, and modern managers keep taking points and adapting from their expertise to create the new meta

@@Saeroye Although I get your point, but it's hard for any of us to say he's relaxed, but by antecedents we know him to be an experimentist, I mean he experimented in the Chelsea final. It seems like Foden can never become a nailed option in Pep’s tactical system. Not even mentioned in the video :( Quite a shame that Foden is just stuck in that starboy phase.
Wish he'd move club, for his own growth and challenge and maturity. He needs to experience life outside of Manchester, and even out of England, not just for his football but also for his life.
Two way Pep lost: 1. He overthink his tactic, not only confusing his opponents but also his players and staff. 2. Annoyed him by doing something he really hate twice, TWICE!!!
This is not new (technically), this is the heart of Johan Cruyff's philosophy. Cruyff believed everyone should be able to beat a player (then utilise the benefit) & Rinus Michels believe you should move the ball (and not take the risk). Benefit vs Risk Johan Cruyff vs Rinus Michels Pep Guardiola vs Van Gaal
His genuis is in the fact he basically just took the best parts of Cryuff and Ferguson. Cryuff he took most of the playing style but with the attacking wingers aggressiveness and desire to win from Ferguson as Cruyff didn't care about winning

Big Ange was doing this in the 80s mate
@@Crouchy232323 I don't think so. He's been playing "keep the ball down" since then, but he wasn't doing anything like this, as was just explained.
Not copy but maybe counter the playstyle or get used to it
@@funkrates4778 I'm not sure you understand mate
@@Crouchy232323 I do understand. Ange was just recently quoted as saying that he just looks to see what Pep is doing and then copies him. During the FA Cup, he was bringing in both wingbacks inside and making the pitch narrow, but it turned out to be a terrible idea because he was getting stretched out non-stop. The reason Spurs lost during the FA Cup was due to Ange himself. Had he not tried to copy Pep, maybe he would have won that game.
You have it figured out Pep has been complaining about not having the speed and chaos of sterling and sane hence MC has to play slow all the time.
Pep forced arteta and klopp into playing a box midfield because he was so successful with it only to immediately change system
If city can defend counter attacks at the wings, they will lift the treble again.
4 centre backs. I'm sure they'll be fine
Now they can lol. They conceded the fewest shot against in europes top 5 leagues and barely conceded a goal from a counter attack since they went on their crazy run of victories . Having dribblers and ball carriers will make City unbeatable
Have you ever watched a City game? They're the best at stopping counters because of their counter-press and tactical fouling when needed
Imagine you are a football game programmer, trying to replicate Pep’s tactics into the game 😂
I think the right way is to let players drive the tactics. I want to implement very specific tactics in EA FC 24 but basically can't. At least we should have Football Manager kind of tactics
I seem to remember Grealish being a dribbly boy at Villa
Literally what he does at city as wel
Where did it take Aston Villa? Nowhere... So focus on details how he is becoming a better footballer individually and team wise. Aston Villa Grealish to me is the same as Zaha no one doubts his ability, now and again he will stand up when playing big teams because it allows them to flourish, it's what they do but come end of the season with all that carry and dribbly, not on the assist chart s and goals. So please guys don't go there, he is a key player to what city want and believe
Ederson finally getting to play in his favourite position, the midfield 😮
Pep could coach us until he's 70 and end up winning more than every other team combined
You guys owe Guardiola a cut of your profits. 😂
Just when you think ‘oh, we’ve got them all figured out’, you get a bunch of new dribbly bois added to the mix..
now ederson plays as a cb.. madness
I don’t think I have seen goalkeeper like Ederson. In a league of his own.
It's like basketball, one of the best way to breakdown a defense is to dribble at it and draw the defender out to create passes lane.
Why would you ever think that? Pep can't help but tinker with his tactics, even when they're winning!
Same thing was said about last season.
Great video. Pep continues to set the pace for other managers to follow. Truly is the GOAT.

Guardiola's always wanted these kinds of players. Whichever league he was in.
This is why Pep is the greatest manager of all time,
He is a trend setter, box mid-fields with inverted fullback that can go into the mid-field or push up with a high line whilst building from the back was his tactic, dominated England with it and what do you know everyone is trying to hold possession, with box mid-fielders and inverting fullbacks.
And Arsenal evolved so much we got Havertz.
Megamind of football, PEP GUARDIOLA
When Rodri more forward likes Gundo role & Kovavic-Akanji become DM.
Tbf, it helped that in his 2nd season he won the EPL with 100 points.
Make a video on Ibrahim Sangare joining Nottingham Forest, I’d love to watch that especially because of how much love you gave that player.
Perhaps we'll see Pep favouring a diamond midfield like the UCL final
Ederson
Stones Dias Gvardiol
Nunes Rodri Kovacic
Foden
Bernardo Haaland Grealish
With great depth in Walker, Akanji, Ake, Phillips, De Bruyne, Doku and Alvarez. Maybe we need to buy one more attacker
yeah keep buying FC
@@kukunase1686They want to keep winning. Is it wrong tho?. Pep means ambition and domination, and he will dominate EPL, yet again.
@kukunase1686 Why do you guys always complain bout buying?
You definitely haven't followed doku at rennes if you say his passing and crossing needs work.
So, formulated an opinion without proper research?

NGL only Klopp system could counter Pep's craziness. Too bad Liverpool got no depth, Klopp is always only play his trusted starting eleven. This got really bad onnthe fitness of the players.
Man. City have had for second year in a row the best transfer market. They add players they really need, and have built an even more incredible team than last season.
In terms of squad potential, Citizens are aiming for another treble. There is no discussion as of today.

Ederson would literally do anything for that 😂 Bros bored standing near the post
Pep has many themes in his city era.
1. Speedy and one touch passing boys.with the Sterling and sane co
2.leaving traditional tiki gala and provides more vertical long balls
3. Big powerful boys with the 4 cbs a big striker and midfielders in rodeo and haaland
4. Now the dribblers. Essentially all players in the starting eleven can dribble now😂
dont forget 2 years of double false nine free role strikers
@dharmawiguna3232 that was the worst time of him in city
JJ, just a normal guy, who communicates normally, never change
If all the new additions have all got progressive carries in their game, kinda takes the shine out of Grealish imo. One of the things he had gunning for him was that. Guess he’s got to step with G/A rn
I was telling people utd needs nunes a lot, they lack a ball carrying midflied.
Makes me happy to hear that Haaland constitutes a vulnerability😏
So Pep figured out that playing the ball wide, so the winger can run forward to then turn his back to the opposition full back, and pass backwards so the player behind him can try again on the other wing, is not effective... genius. I mean... imagine carrying the ball forward. Mind-blowing.
