Son of the Mask is a terrible movie, but I did enjoy Alan Cummings as Loki. He's always good though.
My least favorite part about Uprising is how terrible the Jägers move and are filmed.
In the first movie, the Jägers movement was slow, always felt a little delayed and when they wanted to make a fast motion, they had to build up the speed to do it first.
Plus, they were always filmed from an angle that complimented their size. Most of the shots feel like they could've been filmed by a bystander on the street, on a rooftop or from a news helicopter. They FEEL gigantic
In Uprise, they move as if they're Transformers. Sure they feel sorta big, heavy and slow but not nearly to the extent that their size and weight would suggest.
I actually like how the Jagers move in Uprising
it make sense in universe wise, but i still hate it so much. i don't care if the Jaeger is faster or slower, but they could've complimented the size with good cinematography. even if the Jaeger is fast, they still can feel gigantic. and my problem is not only the faster jaeger, but the movement felt like it's a motion captured. the first one feel mechanical. to make it worse, i don't give a shit about the pilot. sure, even in the first one the character is paper thin, but man do they feel iconic. the Russian, the Chinese triplet, even Rayleigh is iconic af.

My biggest issue with Pacific Rim Uprising was how they completely changed the aesthetic, Del Toro has a unique grungy style of set dressing and lighting that makes the world feel actually lived-in. Meanwhile, everything in uprising just gives off a cheap sterile vibe, which kinda makes sense since it's the future and all that, but it just makes everything look artificial, like a disney theme park. I MIGHT have been able to excuse the mediocre plot if they had kept the look and feel of the first movie, but as it is now, I don't ever feel like watching it again, which is rare for someone who likes dumb monster movies as much as me.
Btw, you're not nitpicking when you say the jeagers moved better in the original. Pretty much everyone who's seen both movies agrees the sequel would have looked infinitely better if they had that sense of weight.
agree to that. Uprising was really missing those cinematographic touches the first movie had to sell you how big the robots are. It's quite lacking that sense of scale to make you believe you are witnessing the Jagers move from your point of view
Honestly pacific rim uprising had one of the biggest missed plot because of the drone kaiju being able to open a portal. If they were still present for the battles, it would felt so hopeless there would be an army of kaiju and Jaeger kaiju against 4 Jaeger they would have to find the best plan because they literally had no choice but no that whole thing was destroyed in a matter of seconds causing 3 kaijus to get out when a lot of them could have shown up
Even the intro of Pacific Rim The Black alone had more effort put into it than Uprising
The Black clearly tries to ignore Uprising but has to lightly acknowledge it, which is funny to me.

Megamind 2 villains in a nutshell: miraculous ladybug villain reject, bomb voyage, the Yu-Gi-Oh lava golem card, and your average DnD warlock.
It's kind of funny how Megamind is a big presentation junkie to where it's a big moment in the movie's climax that that's the difference between a villain and a super villain, but now they can't use that part of his character because the budget for the presentation in the sequel is crumbs.
and funnily enough none of the new villains had a good presentation like literally NO ONE and there's a ton of them

The worst part about Megamind 2 was finding out that the director was Eric Fogel, creator of The Head and Celebrity Death Match. Finding that out was me seeing his EP credit from another reviee, and then saying 'No no no no' out loud for 30 seconds until I got to the Wikipedia page for the movie. I think I died a little inside after that.
Unlike these movies, Diamondbolt was cooking with this video. This was the most diverse editing I've seen from you. Keep up the good work.

Honestly from what I've heard of Jamie Kennedy's behind the scenes story of son of the mask, I genuinely feel bad for him and how poorly the film was treated at the studio, hopefully someday we the orginal cut of the film with concepts they initially had for it .

When it comes to what happens after a movie like Pacific Rim, my mind always goes to "humans have wiped out 80-95 percent of wildlife after the one thing that could keep them in check was stopped." Probably because that's how humanity is in real life, thanks to their god complex.
The biggest issue with Uprising is the fact that Del Toro didn’t make it. He has this specific vibe that he puts into his movies that’s just impossible to replicate. And you’re also right about the Jaegers being way too fast and not being different enough from each other. They move like they’re Gundams that are a fraction of a the size. It’s just one of those things that should’ve waited until they were able to get the right people aboard.
Also in that one scene in Son of the Mask, was that CGI Demon baby watching Transformers Armada?

The worst part about Son of the Mask is the fact that the original Mask comics continued on with new characters and stories. They may have been more violent, but I don’t think it would’ve been impossible translating them to a movie.
I agree about the new jaegers looking the same. In the first movie we got Gipsy Danger, Striker Eureka, Cherno Alpha, and Crimson Typhoon. In Uprising we got Gipsy Avenger, Obsidian Fury, the woman jaeger, the one with the mace, and the one with a whip.

The only good thing I can say about Megamind 2 (both the sequel film and the series) is 1. The renaming joke was pretty funny, and 2. The voice actors tried their best with the material they were given (especially Keith Ferguson)

Race to Edge (one of the how to train your dragon shows), is one of the best shows and one of the best things to come from the movies
One thing that I’ve been thinking about is why am I excited for GVK despite it looking and feeling like Pacific Rim 2, and I think the reason why GVK works where Uprising fails is Godzilla as a franchise has already established a sillier more fun tone with the Showa era movies, and GVK is essentially a tribute to those past films. A buddy-cop film with Godzilla and Kong as our main characters is so ridiculously stupid that you can’t help but not to love it. Pacific Rim 1 made such an incredible effort to make the Jaegers feels like real, working machines, with plates shifting and gears clanking, Uprising doesn’t do this and it suffers as a result, and punches don’t have the same impact without that buildup.
Or maybe Kong riding Godzilla into battle is just fucking awesome
Correct. You can clearly tell that these are guys in suits on a miniature set. So obliviously, they won’t have any weight. Despite Haruo Nakajima being a fucking juggernaut in his prime.

Hey Diamondbolt, I'm a long time fan of your channel and I just want to leave some criticism. As I didn't enjoy this one much as your other videos, and I think it might be helpful if I can bring in somethings that might help you to improve. Keep in mind the overall video isn't bad, it's still entertaining like your other ones. Yet there were a few problems I have, and I guess problems I been having with your recent videos; which became prevalent with this one.
I thought sections of explaining the sequel-films' predecessor went on a bit too long. Especially the segment on the first Megamind. I felt there could've been some things cut out, like the mention of the celebrity voice cast (using the segment of Megamind 1 again, for this example). And it will still leave the video to be the same.
Another problem is sort of the editing. I'm aware you got a new editor and I will say they are doing a great job. I love their style and I think it's a good replacement to yours (not saying yours were bad, it was very much the opposite. I saying I think they were the right option to choose, whoever will handle your videos). Yet, I think they might be overediting a bit. The constant meme sound effects every 2 seconds just feels like an ADHD nightmare to me. So maybe, can they reduce it a bit please?
I'm not a fan of your new thumbnails, very much. Your thumbnail are regularly crowded with a lot of things, but I think this video's to the one on Rise of the Beast, are a complete eye sore (especially the SSU video). They are so busy and the added website reviews just makes them worse. I suggest you go back to the still crowded, but simpler thumbnails.
They were a few thoughts I hope you appreciate. As a mentioned-before long time fan, I think it's good to point at areas you could improve in and carry on making great content. Really hope this helped, and I'm happy if it did.

(I'm going to plagiarism this from somewhere I don't know, likely some review of Uprising) You see, the original Pacific Rim's cinematography was grounded. When they're filming a giant robot, they always have the camera act like it's on a helicopter or something because it makes it feel more real.
They could have the camera go wherever they wanted because it was all CGI, but they chose not to because it made it more grounded.
Uprising does none of this. It just moves around however it wants without any form of groundedness. Same thing with the Jaegers; they don't have the same weight anymore.

I think I know what the real problem is with Pacific Rim Uprising. It doesn't have personality and tries to focus on the fighting way more then story.
Like Adam pointed out each Jaeger had personality and life with it reflected with its pilots and made us wanna be our own Jaeger and look awesome. Uprising everyone feels the same and all fight the same except for having weapons.
