My family had fun watching this series when I was teenager with big teeth. Mostly we were sighing cause so much scripted trouble was going on. But every time Pamela came into view we said "Paaaaaaamelaaaaaaa together" and laughed. Yeah .... was fun ....
I actually thought this was perfect. Jock Ewing was trying to teach his sons how important it was for them to work together. J.R. never understood that, and never really did. ... What upset me was the way the writers of the new Dallas decided to ignore what happened in the Dallas movies from 1996 and 1998 and instead pick up where the show ended in 1991, as if the Dallas movies never occurred.
I love the Dallas movies and their plots. The Dallas movies represent the best ending possible for the Ewing family and J.R. Ewing.... J.R. may not have ended up with Ewing Oil, but he knows John Ross will get his share from Sue Ellen some day. ... And J.R. controlled West Star Oil, so J.R. was actually more powerful than ever. ... The new Dallas show was disappointing the way it ignored that plot, and instead said J.R. was in the hospital and speechless for 20 years because Barnes beat him.
As JR said when Holly Harwood successfully sprung his business trap against her, with Sue Ellen catching him in bed with her....."It's a sahd of me you'll SELDOM see again"
The disappointment on Bobby's face after JR backed out of the agreement cannot be anymore obvious and telling. There is some hurt in there also, as if the hope for a fruitful, meaningful partnership between the brothers simply faded.
@@sweetjrewing5435 You're out your rabbit ass mind, Jr was a big talker who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag & Sue Ellen was a drunk who was a gold digger, The Show was originally about Bobby & Pam but the JR character was too popular. Well as popular as he was when Bobby was killed ratings went down, So they couldn't survive without each other.
@@sweetjrewing5435 You sound more bitter than J.R. himself! This scene was just the type unnumbered viewers of Dallas would wait for; because it meant J.R.'s ego took the bruisin' it was cruisin' for!
If anyone wishes to have a career as a director just watch the nuances in this scene. When JR requests, "Now let's hear the totals," just watch how Bobby offers a lingering glance at JR. Then there's Bobby's subtle smile when JR throws a back-handed compliment, "Well, that's a pretty years good work, Bobby." We then witness JR rise from his chair, a show of strength as he is about to pull the rug out from under Bobby's feet...and Bobby's reaction knowing it was coming. As the scene continues and Bobby rises to answer the door, JR throws the line, "Can that wait Bob?" Bobby without offering any eye contact towards his brother in fact has his back to JR replies with, "No it can't JR." It was if Bobby was saying to JR, "Kiss my ass." A great scene to study if anyone has aspirations of becoming a director.
JR has always only had one weakness, and thats Bobby Ewing. He can intimidate anybody by force but he could never rough shot anything over on Bobby his youngest brother.
funny as hell JR saying he was not a sore loser. Yes he was. he has allways wanted to run Ewing Oil on his own and not share it with anybody. even if it means going against Jocks wishes to share the company.
Yes. Remember in the first Two Episodes JR made it difficult for Bobby to learn the Business properly. To a Degree JR was right that Bobby didn't put in a fraction of work that he did but then Bobby had Jock's Love Unconditionally while JR felt he could only have his Daddy's Love if he bought in Multi Million Dollar Deals.
also JR felt Bobby couldn't run the bussiness in a fair manner. JR was always willing to cut corners and cheat to make Ewing Oil a success . bottom line Bobby was to much a nice guy and not willing to do what it took to be successfull in bussiness. at least in JR.s mind.
There's also the fact that Bobby was always the darling, ever since he was born. The favoritism was always there. So there was always some resentment involved. Still, they loved each other as brothers did, despite getting on each other's nerves so much.
Exactly. Even when Bobby "Died" JR was heartbroken. When Ray & Gary offered to help run the business JR pretty much told them to "Get Lost!" cruel as it was, but neither one of them had an entitlement. JR put Gary #1 in Business then played by David Ackroyd but he cracked like an Egg under the pressure and Ray was more of a Rancher/Cowboy and didn't have the "Toughness" JR had when making Multi-Million Dollar Deals. I don't even think Ray set foot in The Cattleclub for Lunch.
"Good work, Bobby! Now, if you'll just sign these little ol' papers, don' mean nothin', we're still brothers, after all." "Uh, sure, JR, whatever you say......."
This was a great storyline. It spawned a lot of other subplots such as Bobby and Pam's marriage on the rocks, JR scheming with Holly Harwood and Walt Driscoll, and many more. Only thing I didn't like was Bobby and Pam ultimately getting a divorce. On the brink? Yes. But the tension at South Fork the Barnes/Ewing marriage brought was a staple for the show.
Jovauhn Garcia Steve Forrest would have been perfect. or at least Him as Jason ewing. Jason could have filled the void, still be a Ewing male to spar with Bobby and JR.
Yes, they even wanted The Late Phil Carey (Ex-Asa Buchanan) from One Life To Live to play Jock but it wouldn't have worked. Fans are very devoted and staunch about seeing someone else playing a part.
Grew up with the German dub and could never enjoy Hagman’s real voice after that. As always, the German voice actors were brilliant (same for Al Bundy in Married With Children).
Best soapie ever & best villian jr no 1 will ever come close 2 him 1 horse race league of his & bobby my fav will take best decent gy award this 2 owned these characters back then💪🏿🥵🥵
Jr was the oldest son he should have been made president of the company. Jock should have made Jr the president and Bobby directly under him and had a system of checks and balances put in place so Jr wouldn't go completely out of control.
JR Ewing stuck up for the Ewing name and fought those hostile to the business. Vader was more evil, killing children and exterminating the jedi. Neither guy should ever get "father of the year" nominations.
Darth Vader is the clear choice here, its not even up for debate. sure JR has done some bad stuff but he did it because of threats to his bussiness or family, and not even then has any of those bad stuff come close to what darth has done
I have no idea, I've never watched the childish shit Star Wars movies, all 200 hundred of them and never will. Only people with brains the size of rice kernels watch that garbage.
JR tried to get out of that agreement to share the company equally when he had won, then of course wanted to stick to it once he realised he had lost... But that's not how life works, if you play that way, you've got to be able to take it back when it doesn't go your way. In any case, I wonder though if JR would really have forced it and followed that through? Or was he just trying to get out of it but would have backed down later and would that hand-written letter had stood up in court? Also, I don't get sth - the original typed will stated that Ewing Oil would just be divided equally but then the hand-written letter stated the contest. As JR had won the contest, why did Punk ask: "What about the letter?" JR had won the contest as the letter had stated??
dt1111able In the letter, winner got 51, loser 18, and the rest equally divided up by Ellie. JR was counting on Bobby leaving if he won, as his marriage was wrecked.
What was always interesting was JR and Bobby would have 35% each and the other 30% went to Miss Ellie, Gary and Ray. You would think JR would have tried to get Gary and Ray's shares like he did the voting shares that way he would own 55% and could get rid of Bobby
J.r. was the greatest I have every dvd. He schemed with the women and was good at it. R.i.p. Larry hagman. Aytime he was doing a scheme he alwayswon. I'm watching right now.
Amateur who acquired a refinery when JR never came close to getting one and after he made that acquisition, Jock was so impressed he decided to make him permanent president of Ewing oil... Be quiet ya big dope...
Me and my brother (Paco) Sean Waters owns the ministry. But I'm president and have total ownership. I will never let my little brother go without.Never.
Jr loved bobby...they just suffered from sibiling rilvary....he was wanted to be president n owner of ewing oil to show his daddy who was the stonger man but he would have never let bobby go without. And in spite of Jock's letter...Jock lived by a creed that only the stongest survives...he nvr respected gary because he did not stand up to JR and turned to the bottle...in jock's eyes he was weak.......after jock died they turned him into saint jock...alot of what JR. learned he learned from his father. when bobby was out sewing his wild oates...JR was in the fields working n learning from his daddy....
Bobby wasn't "sewing his wild oats." Bobby was the field man for Ewing Oil. He helped Ewing Oil with the dirty deals by bribing and blackmailing politicians from Austin to Washington. It was only when he married Pam that Bobby decided to settle down and get an office job at the company.
Trop souvent nous sous estimons notre prochain et nous nous trompons bien souvent. C'est une bonne leçon pour ceux qui croient tout savoir et tout connaître ...la justice.
It was supposedly explained in the codicil to Jock's will that he wanted to prove to Bobby and J.R. that they could both work together amicably for the betterment of the company. That's what I remember anyways. Personally, I think the writers did it that way to keep Jock's memory alive a little longer in the show.

Sex pervert posing as a phone company employee on WKRP in Cincinnati!
My family had fun watching this series when I was teenager with big teeth.
Mostly we were sighing cause so much scripted trouble was going on.
But every time Pamela came into view we said "Paaaaaaamelaaaaaaa together" and laughed. Yeah .... was fun ....
Checkmate J.R.
JR looked like hello my a..! 😂😂😂
Can't believe that Canadian fields guy would go onto play such a zany character in COACH! lol
The Dallas movies were terrible. Even Duffy and Hagman hated them.
He played a serious role when he guest starred on LA Law once
This was the best night time soap. Huge JR fan. He was man baby. Love him. 80's was awesome 😊
I would have been jumping for joy if I was married to Bobby he got that check for that much money and winning the contest of Ewing Oil
This was my FAVORITE scene of the whole scene. Punk Anderson is a great friend of the family
Unfortunately for Bobby, JR factored in the exchange rate and Bobby ended up being 15 Loonies short.
Don't let JR fool you. A bag of tricks under his ten gallon hat.
Love how Jr could turn from a villain to a saint when he knew he was outsmarted 😂 Larry Hagman was born to play the role of Jr Ewing 👏
Bobby Ewing Was My Favorite!!! That Damn JR. Lol
He was very good looking when was younger
True that!
Donna Crenshaw ,,,,BOBBY WAS A PUSSY AND HIS WIFE PAM WAS A COMPLETE BITCH.
Bobby, you the man!!!!
As the scene continues and Bobby rises to answer the door, JR throws the line, "Can that wait Bob?" Bobby without offering any eye contact towards his brother in fact has his back to JR replies with, "No it can't JR." It was if Bobby was saying to JR, "Kiss my ass." A great scene to study if anyone has aspirations of becoming a director.
you knew J R was pissed cause Bobby was now the owner of Ewing oil
Watching this clip made me think about my mom 😢, R.I.P. Barbara Horton.
JR has always only had one weakness, and thats Bobby Ewing. He can intimidate anybody by force but he could never rough shot anything over on Bobby his youngest brother.
Next to his wife, and his son, Bobby was a stand-in for Jock after Jock died......but all's fair in the awl bidness😉
God i miss the 80s! This was part of it.
Ironically, you died in 1977 and missed all of the 80s.
I think you watched way too much television in the 80s
@@pulsarlights2825 yeah, we didn't have all the games y'all have now.
Check and Mate.
That's the name of this episode
funny as hell JR saying he was not a sore loser. Yes he was. he has allways wanted to run Ewing Oil on his own and not share it with anybody. even if it means going against Jocks wishes to share the company.
kappelmeister123 Nah.
Considering the ten of millions in profits that Ewing Oil was making it's amazing that by the shows end both ended up broke and still living at home.
Jr wasn't expecting this
What was up with Patrick Duffy’s hair??? Was he going for the lego hair or helmet hair look?
"Good work, Bobby! Now, if you'll just sign these little ol' papers, don' mean nothin', we're still brothers, after all."
"Uh, sure, JR, whatever you say......."
There were two things Cliff Barnes and J.R. shared in common: 1) Certain women on the show and 2) Their contempt for Bobby & Pam's marriage.
After Jim Davis passed away, I felt the writers could have come up with something better than a contest between Bobby and JR for Ewing Oil.
I thought it was superb. Made season 6 exemplary
It fit....but they should never have killed off Jock. He should have been recast.
Dan Tee
You couldn't recast Jim Davis, he did such a great job portraying Jock. Any other actor wouldn't have been able to live up to him.
Best soapie ever & best villian jr no 1 will ever come close 2 him 1 horse race league of his & bobby my fav will take best decent gy award this 2 owned these characters back then💪🏿🥵🥵
Best show ever on TV
Great show.
JR clearly didn't want to share Ewing Oil and then begs Bobby to share it when he won the contest.
Bobby is so smart and good looking - what a double threat!
Jr was the oldest son he should have been made president of the company. Jock should have made Jr the president and Bobby directly under him and had a system of checks and balances put in place so Jr wouldn't go completely out of control.
The guy who came in and gave Bobby the check Wasn't he the guy Who played Howard the Athletic director on the TV show Coach
Original Air Date Friday, November 4th, 1983.
Dallas was like part of evening dinner in most households..
JR Ewing, Darth Vader..................who was more evil?
@@divyadijay2709 no doubt you save your time for the finer things in life like Days of Our Lives and Real housewives you pretentious witch
Jr....
Do you have another good clip from this season. Katherine drunk at the oil barons ball room..??XD
I like it better when JR pisses people off so much they punch him.
Bobby's muff hairdo and J.R's circle hairdo make me laugh.
😂😂😂
Bobby is a good man !
"Hi kids! I'm TV's Patrick Duffy!"
-- South Park
Bobby wins Ewing Oil? Bobby stole Ewing Oil.
"hello, jr" 😂😂😂
Fun Fact: Bobby hated being called Bob.
Anything with lady jessica?
I'm tired of hearing about Dusty & the Southern Cross.
msmithstud
maybe that is why Lady Jesse Burned it down..??XD
What was always interesting was JR and Bobby would have 35% each and the other 30% went to Miss Ellie, Gary and Ray. You would think JR would have tried to get Gary and Ray's shares like he did the voting shares that way he would own 55% and could get rid of Bobby
The voting shares had no money to them unlike shares in ewing oil Jr would have to buy each one out
Just the way Daddy wanted
Go Bobby!
Way to go, Bobby.
Bobby with the post dated cheque “don’t put that in till I ring you”
In the end,bobby outlived JR.
J.r. was the greatest I have every dvd. He schemed with the women and was good at it. R.i.p. Larry hagman. Aytime he was doing a scheme he alwayswon. I'm watching right now.
The exact moment when Dallas officially jumped the shark. To think an amateur like Bobby could defeat JR is absolutely ridiculous.
Wth. From your profile pic I thought the oompa oompa had a sex change and a spray tan
Amateur who acquired a refinery when JR never came close to getting one and
after he made that acquisition, Jock was so impressed he decided to make him permanent president of Ewing oil...
Be quiet ya big dope...
Jr is still the best snake in the grass on tv … LOLOL
Imagine having a lawyer who’s name is PUNK ? Why did we love this stuff so much??
Punk’s real name was Marvin.
The Punk in this series was from Texas. So you knew he was one punk not to mess with....especially if your name was J.R. Ewing!
Now, this looks like a working day!!
Jr was always one bad dude 🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️ ⛽⛽⛽⛽⛽⛽
from 0:50 to 2:47 & 3:02 PDQ!!!
Bobby should have taken it for himself. Much better cliffhanger
Trop souvent nous sous estimons notre prochain et nous nous trompons bien souvent. C'est une bonne leçon pour ceux qui croient tout savoir et tout connaître
...la justice.
What was the point of having a contest if they decided to split it 50/50 anyhow
It was supposedly explained in the codicil to Jock's will that he wanted to prove to Bobby and J.R. that they could both work together amicably for the betterment of the company. That's what I remember anyways. Personally, I think the writers did it that way to keep Jock's memory alive a little longer in the show.
