i actually found out that sue ellen linda grey had been fired and this was her way of getting killed off but larry hagman saved her job. tells you a lot about the kind of guy he was may he rip.
i so agree! The constant Bobby vs. JR battle had worn off. How exciting and refreshing it would have been had Pam been given the opportunity to run Ewing Oil, probably with the aid of Donna. But of course, neither Hagman and Kanaly (nor Duffy) would have played along to that. In its' later years, the show had totally turned into a show for "the old boys".
Season 8 (DVD season 9) was allright, but far better than the next 5 years that would follow. It was the last "true" season of DALLAS to many, also the last one with decent ratings. Duffy decided to come back after filming was wrapped up, Mark Graison was originally to be found dead in the shower by Pam. Sue Ellen would live, Jamie Ewing would die.
Apart from the season opener Bobby's return didn't improve the ratings drop. In fact it made it worse. Soaps were falling out of favour with viewers by that stage anyway. So telling loyal fans that they had watched 24 episodes for no reason was treating them with contempt
as far as I was concerned, this was the end of Dallas. The only exciting thing that happened after this wasn't until next season when Pam got in the car accident.
YOu can tell the windows blowing out was a different set. Watch after the explosion the camera moves down and the otehr windows look totaly different. Then they dumped probably a few bags of trash out to make it look like falling debree. very creepy scene nicely done. Had the next season followed that cliff hanger bet Sue Ellen would been badly hurt
There were rumors that Pam would have found Mark dead in the shower but I heard the actor say that they never filmed that. So who knows? I think at the point they had VP film that scene the producers knew how they were going to use it, so idk how much they invested into the rest of that scene, but I'm not 100 percent sure about that. Personally, I did not enjoy the season where Bobby was dead. It started out ok, but then devolved into a clone of Dynasty with all the international intrigue and costume parties, and over the top wardrobe, and characters I didn't care about. When I saw the season premiere in 1986, and Bobby said that "none of that happened" I was shocked. When it cut to the next scenes it was (for me) like watching the classic DALLAS that I loved from the earlier seasons. I think it put the show back to where it took a wrong turn. It only fell apart for me once Victoria Principal left and there was no more Romeo and Juliet.
Later in this season JR is no where near as nasty as he had been to the pont of not at all. Making peace with Sue Ellen treating her right, not cheating her, just about making peace with Cliff , Jamie and Pam, been ok with Clayton, Ray & Donna. He even as the show was coming to a close was starting to become a life saving anti hero especially in his partnering along and being friendly with Dack Rambo. This season wasn't so bad.
I found this season absolutely fascinating cant believe the ratings dropped so much they had to write off a whole season .totally incredulous.i I like to class this as the last season of the REAL dallas because u could not take it seriously after the dramatic events of the dream season.would love to have seen continuation of these storylines. I am given to believe that pam found mark dead in the shower in the intended cliffhanger and that the REAL jock ewing was to resurface. producers missed a trick here
As much as I loved the spectacular Dream Season and how it pains me to see its emotional trials & tribulations wiped away, Dallas made the right choice to bring Bobby back and how he returned-for the enduring longevity of the show. Remember: ratings decline happened for ALL prime time soaps after the pinnacle 1983-1985 era, regardless what the storylines were. Dallas made the right choice.
He gonna call public works and complain about a leak to get his bill reduced for being in that 🚿 for so long. Maybe Pam's ' NEW ' long hair clogged the drain ☝!😂😂😂
This ruined the show for many people. The audience was treated with contempt. First it was a mistake to kill off Bobby and then compounded the problem by bringing him back. A huge mess.
Well, I was remembering two cliffhangers, the one they shoot Bobby and this one. I loved this season, so many interesting characters and the final jr Office explosion! Was shocking at that time
Outside of the 1989-91 seasons, this was the worst season. Only saving grace is that we had most of the original cast. It played just like a dream as no one was in the character that we once knew and it was all kind of a depressing fog. Getting Patrick Duffy back and Leonard Katzman made 1986-87 rock!
After the car explodes, Jack is clearly upset. And I read that they had entended that Sue Ellen would be blinded and Jamie dies. Bobby coming back lets her live an extra season.
I loved season 9! Most of it was REALLY good! Victoria Principal was out with a bad back part of that season but the beginning and towards the end of season 9 was when the show was at it's best. Bobby could have come back another way but the shows creators wanted us all to forget about season 9. Barbra Caraira was a class act villain brought in that year to compete with Joan Collins on rival night time soap "Dynasty". That year "Dallas" hired the designer who made Marilyn Monroe's dresses. Latrry Hagman didn't like that they were starting to look like "Dynasty". Season 10 the comparisons stopped as "Dallas" went back to the what made the night time so popular. Victioria Principal character was written off at the end of season 10. The show never really recovered after that. new characters were brought in but the show pretty much ran it's course.
+George Hirst they should have just had Bobby be in a year long coma instead of dieing. that way he could come back which ended up happening. sad they had to get rid of all the interesting characters like Angelica.
What did you think of the way Bobby returned? Could it have been done a better way? It destroyed its own credibility? Didn't the producers anticipate the fallout? (loss of audience, credibility)
The show would have continued for another ten years with good story lines instead of rating grabbing cliff hangers such as Bobby's death and resuection
When I look back now rewatching the dream year, Ray and Donna had such a better marriage with the pregnancy and adoption story. Jenna seemed much more positive and happier than the next season where she was in turmoil pregnant by Bobby after he chose Pam. The only plus after the dream was seeing a stronger Sue Ellen who finally learned how to handle JR. Pam became much weaker after the dream remarrying Bobby and upset about Jenna’s pregnancy.
Dallas jumped the shark on this storyline. The irony of it is that the dream season was good. It was the resolution and reintroduction of Patrick Duffy that signalled the beginning of the end. I only saw Dallas on repeat viewing in the UK on a satellite channel in 1999/2000 But my parents and most viewers in the UK jumped after Pam's collision with the oil tanker at the end of the following season from this one By the time Dallas ended in the UK during its original airing. It had gone from prime time evening viewing to a Sunday afternoon slot that hardly anybody watched Most people thought that the writers and producers were insulting the intelligence of the viewers
As I understand it Pam's dream was itself part of Lucy's much longer and more complex dream which incorporates all events from season 3 on. As far as I know Lucy is still asleep.
As I mentioned on another video, the original cliffhanger for this season - before Duffy agreed to return - was "Is Ben Stivers really Jock Ewing?". Earlier in the above episode, Sue Ellen and Miss Ellie are shown searching Southfork for Clayton when Sue Ellen sudden;y decides to go into Dallas to check on JR. After the explosion at Ewing Oil, they were going to cut back to Ellie who, still looking for Clayton, goes into the bunkhouse and looks through Ben's things. There, she finds Jock's buckle and knife and the letters she wrote to him while he was in South America. Ben then enters, and tells her the items are "mine." Basically, this is the same scene that occurs between Ellie and Wes early in the following season. Once Duffy agreed to return, they added the scene of Pam walking to the shower and opening the door. In order to keep Bobby's method of return a secret, Victoria Principal was told that Pam would discover Mark lying unconscious - perhaps dead - on the shower floor (I don't believe the shot of Mark on the floor was ever filmed). Later, the insert of Duffy in the shower was filmed at a separate location with a separate crew who were told they were doing a commercial for Irish Spring soap. On his cue, Duffy turned, said "good morning", paused for a second, and then continued with ". . . and you can have a good morning too with Irish Spring soap . . . blah, blah, blah."
have heard the same only that ben would really been jock but they could not have 2 characters coming back from the dead at the same time.apparently they thought that would have been incredulous!!!lol
No, Mark was never in this. Victoria said they asked her to come back in, to film this scene. She said she opened the shower door, and it was empty. They said “cut” and thanked her for coming back in to film this, as the season had already finished filming. She was kept in the dark about Bobby being in the shower and didn’t know until the episode aired that May.
What a way to go out! I know this season gets kicked around a lot ...and deservedly so... but I have to admit I'm curious to see how these plot lines would have progressed had Pam not woken up when she did. At this point, JR had gotten everything he wanted. He'd obtained sole control and ownership of Ewing Oil and he'd reconciled with Sue Ellen!
Well JR owned 60% and had controlling interest of Ewing Oil. I had heard Ben Stivers would have been Jock Ewing and would take the company back from JR. Jamie would have died where Cliff would once again go after JR continuing the feud. Sue Ellen would be badly burned and blind,
April Stevens would of still arrived but not an ex to Jack, but a dear friend of Jamie who stayed in Dallas to avenge her death. Mark was supposed to die in Bobby's shower resurrection and Angelica would of been given BD Calhoun's lines and would of been stalking JR instead.
Yes this season didnt have Bobby and got all 80s Dynasty glammed up BUT it was still watchable and had some fab. story lines! Ratings went down but was still a solid top 10 (after NINE seasons or whatever) Irony is the moment Bobby came back it was beyond absurd. Story lines, cast etc...Just everything was well off its peak
The dream idea was stupid.. they could have explained that Bobby went into a coma instead after doctors tried to bring him back. after all hospitals have a machine to try and jump start the heart.
I don't think that would have worked. They went all out and showed Bobby flat lining in the hospital, then went on to have a funeral and spent the first part of the season in mourning. They could not have explained away all of that by saying he was in a coma. Apparently Patrick Duffy was adamant that Bobby had to die because he originally had no intention on ever coming back. I don't dislike the "dream" explanation as much as I used too, it just kind of sucks that the season that was dreamed away was a pretty good one. Probably the last good season of Dallas. The "dream season" was certainly the last season that Dallas was a top 10 show.
Pat Duffy has said in interviews that there were scenes filmed with Bobby being revived. The producers chose to use the dream excuse. He also said he thought he was filming a soap commercial and it was edited.
And for me that's where the run of the original show ended. After that it went downhill. I mean the following seasons where I was supposed to believe a special forces commando couldn't kill JR and not to mention the Carter McCay thing and a siege happening on american soil on the ranch with a paramilitary group and the ATF, DEA, FBI not heavily involved and Bobby an untrained civilian taking them on. Really? The new continuation is badass though!
all the SEASON 9 storylines were a dream?..no not true..the Jock Ewing imposter storyline was continued into season 10 played by the same actor too....what a mess this was..the fans were treated like fools..bringing back Bobby was the biggest mistake for the show...it lost all its credability..Dallas was doing fine without him..personaly I think season 9 was one of the best seasons of the show.
Happy 32nd Anniversary DALLAS! April 2, 1978 You graced our TV screens and Changed Television forever and set the tone for the Season ending Cliffhangers that even comedies are using. So, whenever we watch tv and have a favorite show and the season ends, leaving us wondering what is going to happen next?We can all Thank Dallas and The Masterpiece and Father oF all Cliffhangers, "Who Shot J.R.?"
Can almost pin point the 80s special effects for the explosion. Blow up a small model building window fairly close up then as the camera switches to the next scene (watch closely as you can tell it was either a different camera or what not) amd someone is probably in a window up above dumping out a bag of debris to look like the building explosion scraps
This would have been a great cliffhanger if they didn't bring Bobby back. It was a great season. Even though we missed Bobby, it still was Dallas at its finest. I wish they could have given Bobby a new role to play. It was difficult to go back to the season before and follow.
Got to wonder, did the writers do this stuff knowing the dream stuff was coming and were just having fun or did they expect to pick up where this left off before Patrick decided to come back.
No one knew this would be a dream when they filmed all of this. Patrick agreed to return AFTER the season had finished filming. Luckily he agreed to return before this episode aired, so the whole shower scene was filmed then. Victoria was asked to come in after the season ended filming, to film her scene of walking to the shower.
Awesome cliffhanger; then to wipe out the entire season was a mistake. More creative writing could have made Pam still have the dream and the other storylines wrapped up much differently. Love Dallas, this was the first mistake and the show was never the same.
It was obvious the producers of Dallas modeled Anjelica after Barbara Carrera's portrayal of Fatima Blush in Never Say Never Again. They wanted to snap her up before the producers of Dynasty did.
The stupid thing was after they went to all the trouble of bringing him back Victoria Principle left the following season and I didn't blame her one bit I bet she was like "make up you f***king mind Patrick Duffy"
This must be the most disturbing cliffhanger of Dallas. The "dream" messed up everything. It was a great season, and by the way - season 9 was the longest season of all (31 episodes) and they call it a dream...nice one! I love the character Bobby but I really think he should've stayed out if he wanted to be out.
I loved this season final. Barbara Carrera did a great job. No one knew what was going to happen with Pat coming back next year. Rumors of Sue Ellen being blinded by the explosion. This was many years before 9/ll so it is a bit of reminder of that tragedy. After it was revealed the whole past season was Pam's dream it meant Katherine was alive also. The following season Victoria Principle left "Dallas" and Morgan Britney did a couple of guest star appearance as Katherine. That was it though. The two guest appearances facilitated Pam's departure. Without Pam on 'Dallas" the Katherine role wasn't as pi vital. New character were brought in and developed. '"Dallas" lasted 4 more years but the last couple of years were not nearly as good.
rumours of sue ellen being permanently crippled ,the real jock ewing returning as opposed to the fake one, mark being found DEAD in the shower as opposed to bobby being found alive. the next season would have been fascinating.however viewing figures count so the next season would probably have been the last without the resurection
The continuity people forgot one thing. At the end of Season 8, when Bobby died, Pam's hair was a lot shorter - more of a bob cut. This shot, when she wakes up to discover Bobby in the shower, is supposed to be the next morning from that previous season after they had got back together. But her hair has mysteriously grown long overnight!
at the time I wanted to know if Sue Ellen and JR survived the bomb...Yes the bomb was in JR's office but it Shook the building and JR was in the elevator and still in the building. I don't think he would have not been shook up by the blast.
Imagine the dire implications, if this had been allowed to continue. The death of our beloved Sue Ellen, and maybe the end of Ewing Oil. I love the producers of Dallas for allowing this to be the infamous "dream season". Way to go!
Sue would have survived but blinded by the explosion. They killed Jamie off the following year and Jack left town never to be heard of again. Barbra Bel Geddes returned as Miss. Ellie. They made the right decision going with Pam's dream. How else could they explain Duffy returning? Fan's wanted him back and so did Hagman. Larry wanted Donna Reed gone as Miss. Ellie. That's OK Donna sued the show and won millions. Sadly, Miss. Reed died of cancer a year later.
There was no way the audience would have accepted Patrick Duffy as another character. They HAD to bring him back as Bobby Ewing, and the only way to do that was to go on as if Bobby never died. The show went on for another five years, so it wasn’t THAT bad.
Did you actually SEE the next 5 years? Ugh talk about painful to watch! I think the show would have lasted another 5 years anyway but this dumb plot line did nothing to help
My biggest problem with Dallas was , if Ray Krebs was suppose to play the role of a cowboy, how did he manage to look so clean all the time? He always wore the latest designer Westernwear and never had a hint of dust on him. Big contrast with Sam Elliott's character a few years later on The Yellow Rose.

Thank you for calling it season 8.. XD
@@MrCraigblaze the renaming of the seasons for the DVDs, drives me crazy !! Lol
Apart from the season opener Bobby's return didn't improve the ratings drop. In fact it made it worse. Soaps were falling out of favour with viewers by that stage anyway. So telling loyal fans that they had watched 24 episodes for no reason was treating them with contempt
Dallas was part of my childhood. But this was silly.
It cost them credibility and was the beginning of the end. Too bad Patrick left in 1985, who knows how long the show would have been great.
If Dallas was a comedy: JR: Jack is that you?
Jack: No, it's Han Solo!
as far as I was concerned, this was the end of Dallas. The only exciting thing that happened after this wasn't until next season when Pam got in the car accident.
That BD Calhoun thing was awful. It was far worse than the Angelica storyline.
@@johnnasiatka5636that was ridiculous !! Then the writers having them lose Ewing Oil, really damaged the show.
Jr jack got on really well in dream season I'll need watch it all again
The writers were positioning Jack in the dream season as the “new Bobby,” and this included JR and Bobby’s sometimes brotherly relationship
YOu can tell the windows blowing out was a different set. Watch after the explosion the camera moves down and the otehr windows look totaly different. Then they dumped probably a few bags of trash out to make it look like falling debree. very creepy scene nicely done. Had the next season followed that cliff hanger bet Sue Ellen would been badly hurt
that was one hell of a dream
Best show in 📺 History
I agree with you. Dallas was the best TV show in the world.
This was the absolute best cliffhanger of the series.
That was a hell of a finale for a dream season.
Whatever she took before she went to sleep, I need box.
Agreed!
It's definitely one of the top 3 cliffhangers they ever had, for sure!
I am given to believe that pam found mark dead in the shower in the intended cliffhanger and that the REAL jock ewing was to resurface. producers missed a trick here
Jack was basically just a substitute little brother for JR after Bobby had supposedly died.
AWESOME CLIFFHANGER. Dallas was clearly the king of them...no wonder they stayed on 13 years..
Dallas made the right choice.
he wasn't killed. he was just in the shower for a whole year!
Nobody ever recalls that Sue Ellen died. In the worst explosion FX ever. 😎
Hate to have to pay that shower bill.
Mikey McMikeFace Not to mention Pam’s hair grew long for a whole year while sleeping.
@@salt27dogg, must have had some 'Dream' extensions put in. I noticed that too. Or Just For Dreams hair potion.😂😂😂
Love that phone. Pressure sensitive keys. It's the Atari 400 version!
That is the ugliest phone I have ever seen. But it probably offered a good version of Space Invaders.
What had Pam been eating to dream up Angelica Nero?
Why did she dream that Sue Ellen, who was as close as a sister, gets killed?
If i was Pam id get the meaning of dreams book out of the library
Maybe too much pepperoni.
michaelleacy some damn good pills
I like your comment cool
Pam had a vivid imagination, to dream up an entire season.
Wondered if we are relatef.
Well, I was remembering two cliffhangers, the one they shoot Bobby and this one. I loved this season, so many interesting characters and the final jr Office explosion! Was shocking at that time
I love Angelica Rhyme in that episode.. "lets see just how patient you are JR"..love it
+MrCraigblaze, well JR really set her up hook, line, and sinker by the way.
Derek Mathews
This episode should have been titled "Who can outsmart who"?..xd
Outside of the 1989-91 seasons, this was the worst season. Only saving grace is that we had most of the original cast. It played just like a dream as no one was in the character that we once knew and it was all kind of a depressing fog. Getting Patrick Duffy back and Leonard Katzman made 1986-87 rock!
After the car explodes, Jack is clearly upset. And I read that they had entended that Sue Ellen would be blinded and Jamie dies. Bobby coming back lets her live an extra season.
They were trying to kill Jamie two times before actually doing it.
@@W81Researcher That does not surprise me.
That was one helluva dream Pam had!!! Why were they so mean to Donna Reed???
@@Astraldragon1 Bobby couldn't come back from a coma since everyone saw him die in his hospital bed a year earlier.
Number one Dallas forever
Dallas jumped the shark on this storyline. The irony of it is that the dream season was good. It was the resolution and reintroduction of Patrick Duffy that signalled the beginning of the end. I only saw Dallas on repeat viewing in the UK on a satellite channel in 1999/2000
But my parents and most viewers in the UK jumped after Pam's collision with the oil tanker at the end of the following season from this one
By the time Dallas ended in the UK during its original airing. It had gone from prime time evening viewing to a Sunday afternoon slot that hardly anybody watched
Most people thought that the writers and producers were insulting the intelligence of the viewers
As I understand it Pam's dream was itself part of Lucy's much longer and more complex dream which incorporates all events from season 3 on. As far as I know Lucy is still asleep.
Why??
I enjoyed Jack and JR's relationship in this time.
LBF522 Seem like he was actually cool toward Jack.
Adam B. Smith in the dream season, Jack was actually being positioned as the new Bobby - the good Ewing brother, or in this case cousin.
@@johnnotgalt2697 I could been OK with that. I liked that he was not a carbon copy of Bobby. The mindless hot head.
I would love to see somebody write the direction that the story would have gone in the Dream.
You're absolutely right!
after the Bomb went off in JR's Office I wonder if JR felt the building shake from the blast when he was in the elevator.
True could have said Bobby was in a coma
The scene with "dead" Bobby in the shower still give me the shills over so many years. Kept a whole year wondering what the aftermath would be ❤️
It got too "Dynasty" in the second half of this season.
That whole season of "DALLAS" was all a dream.
Pamela had a nightmare that whole season.
all the SEASON 9 storylines were a dream?..no not true..the Jock Ewing imposter storyline was continued into season 10 played by the same actor too....what a mess this was..the fans were treated like fools..bringing back Bobby was the biggest mistake for the show...it lost all its credability..Dallas was doing fine without him..personaly I think season 9 was one of the best seasons of the show.
Different character, different name. Technically it was never revealed in the dream season, that the man was Jock. See your point though.
Pam's hair grew overnight!!
So did Sue Ellen's, Donna's, Jamie's and Jenna's!
I remember this season fondly. Barbara Ceara was awesome!
LORD TALK ABOUT A "WET DREAM....."😂😂😂😂😂
This season reminded me of dynasty only of the fashions and the women roles.
The season 9 is really underated. It was one of the best season in my opinion.
I would love if they would have something like this in the Irish and British Soaps. For Emerdale or Cornation Street. Plus Fair City.
I loved this season !
Season 9 was such a fantastic season and the end messed up everything.
This was the finale for me. Everything in Seasons 10-14 we're the dream.
Should have ended following season. Jr gets SF and Ewing Oil and final scene is Pam & Bobby having dinner with Val & Gary
You can see in the last few episodes of it they were taking the piss…
No one knew this would be a dream when they filmed all of this. Patrick agreed to return AFTER the season had finished filming. Luckily he agreed to return before this episode aired, so the whole shower scene was filmed then. Victoria was asked to come in after the season ended filming, to film her scene of walking to the shower.
An absolute joke ! 10 different ways from any fan of Dallas would have made this 31 episode fiasco better…
"Good morning! Sorry about the shrinkage! The water is a little cold!"
I'd take him even with shrinkage!
Wonder if Mark was bigger????
@@kirk1912 I'd let Mark get it in too, he was a stud. That episode of him rising out of the pool all wet, made me wet.

Whats not quiet visible in the shower was the shark that the show had just jumped.
I loved Barbara this season..XD
@Ric D What man wouldn't!lol
@@rockyracoon3233 So true.!! XD
The end scene was redone for an episode of Family Guy.
Watch out Sue Ellen
@@christopherhayes2556 it probably would of for sure, but I still say there was another way to do it.
Thanks for the upload..!!..XD
But how could Pam have predicted Wes Parmalee/Ben Stevens in her dream
But Bobby remained dead on Knots Landing.
The dream ruined the crossovers between Dallas and Knots Landing.

@@pauldecroix4567 BBG was already back for the dream season. Reed was gone with Duffy.
I had a dream just like this only last night!
I thought Season 10 was the last great season of DALLAS with Wes Parmalee and BD Calhoun.
Who is the female character at the beginning of this clip?
Anjelica Nero
There was no way the audience would have accepted Patrick Duffy as another character. They HAD to bring him back as Bobby Ewing, and the only way to do that was to go on as if Bobby never died. The show went on for another five years, so it wasn’t THAT bad.
It was shite after…it died in ratings…
Did you actually SEE the next 5 years? Ugh talk about painful to watch! I think the show would have lasted another 5 years anyway but this dumb plot line did nothing to help
My biggest problem with Dallas was , if Ray Krebs was suppose to play the role of a cowboy, how did he manage to look so clean all the time? He always wore the latest designer Westernwear and never had a hint of dust on him. Big contrast with Sam Elliott's character a few years later on The Yellow Rose.
