That is definitely a different color of the bulb instead of the green tint the clear one gives off on your previous video on the other style of mercury bulb

I had to take down one of these MV lights because power costs were getting crazy so I initially put it on a switch but then never used it. After I took it down it never worked again. I think the sensor on top is to blame because it's so fragile. I may still have the bulb somewhere.

Yes, mercury lamps are really not good, they consume a lot of energy for no reason, with 70 or 100 HPS you can easily have the same light but yellow but at least HPS is much more economical, ok we didn't say LPS, LPS is monochromatic, it is ugly color for the house or even for public lighting, you can put LED, with 50 or 60w you can easily have the same lumens example: 50w led gives 6,000-7,500 lumens, HPS 70W 6,000- 6,600 lumen or 100w HPS 10,000 - 10,600 lumens on average, while MV 175W only gives 7800 lumens! anyway if you don't want LED or HPS and you want white light not yellow and you want HID bulbs you can put in metal halide bulbs or CDO or CPO ceramic metal halide bulbs which are also very efficient but you will need special ballasts. for CDO or CPO you can put electronic ballast, I recommend Philips dynavision prog xt cdo70 or cpo60 because cdo70 can work with HPS 70w lamp but not with cpo60 ballast! Mercury lamps are purely for decoration, I don't think anyone in 2024 will be using mercury lamps here HPS and they are not used much, HPS is one of the most efficient high intensity gas discharge lamps for colored light

I like these better than the ED-shaped mercury vapor bulbs, but the new ED-shaped mercury vapor bulbs are still better than LED.

Made in Manchester, NH. Probably no more recent than 1975 as that is the year Sylvania started making these phosphor coated mercury lamps as 'clear banders' that didn't have any phosphor where the arc tube support frame touches the end of the lamp.

Awesome, I have a clear bander that will be in a video here eventually!

@@Parrot175 As a bit of trivia for when you do get around to the clear bander lamp video, the reason for the clear band is to prevent dust in the lamp from the arc tube support frame scraping the phosphor coating where it touches the envelope. At the same time, the end of the lamp having a phosphor coating yields both better light color uniformity and a small efficiency increase.

Interesting, I love the odd shape of these old bulbs, make you wonder if they ever had fixture that required these odd shape in the first place…

The clear MV bulbs are cool, but DX is the only type of mercury bulb I would actually want to light up an indoor space.
It might be ridiculous, but I’ve been thinking about building an area light that had two different HID bulbs. Something like a 50w HPS & 100w MV bulb in the same fixture (probably externally ballasted). That’s something I might use a clear bulb for.
I’m getting way off topic though.

Not sure, it says MTS on the back so maybe McCain Traffic Supply? It’s an 8-8-8.

you would think that the phosphorus would convert all the uv radiation and make it much brighter but apparently not

Nice Color temperature. Are these mercury lamps filled with neon gas?
