The police didn’t follow the due process as per the BNSS and the Army Act. Illegal detention of the Army personnel and the woman by police as well as her bail rejection without any reason by the lower court are serious concerns as pointed out by the Odisha High Court. Non installation of cctv cameras in the PS is blatant violation of the Supreme Court guidelines. Though the other allegations are under investigation and subject to judicial inquiry but the series of events make it evident that police failed to perform its duty as mandated by law. Action is required against erring officials. Major reforms, including training and sensitisation, are needed in their functioning. They are after all the duty bearers for law enforcement.

Having followed this news very closely from the beginning, along with all the videos that were released, I find that she hasn't committed any wrongdoing either morally or legally, barring the elevator incident, which I believe was unruly. The videos of the road scuffle and argument at the police station that were released show only a part of the truth. In an argument since one thing leads to another, a person's actions and words cannot be judged by just listening to a part of the argument.
In the 70s and 80s no policeman would have dared to behave in this fashion. The army top brass need to be more explicit in their condemnation of this incident..

It makes huge difference in the mind's cognitive and rational abilities after getting drunk which she was. 2. We tried to run away as quickly as we can. In the video it is clearly visible the major is trying to control her and other guys too are trying to control their own men. Moreover she kept on marching forward to take up a verbal argument. She wasn't polite too and intially only shouted madarchOd. 3. At the police station the way she's behaving for someone it can appear to be bold for someone straight impolite. Why isn't she releasing her version which she recorded in her phone ? 4. Hospital video - she is all fine within the premises but upon coming out hops on to a wheelchair and wears a dressing on hand. 5. The way she describes the sexual harrasment it looks unbelievable. What on earth would make police behave that way knowing she's a lawyer knowing her fiance is an army officer and they're not underprivileged vegabonds who will get un-noticed. The police didn’t follow the due process as per the BNSS and the Army Act. Illegal detention of the Army personnel and the woman by police as well as her bail rejection without any reason by the lower court are serious concerns as pointed out by the Odisha High Court. Non installation of cctv cameras in the PS is blatant violation of the Supreme Court guidelines. Though the other allegations are under investigation and subject to judicial inquiry but the series of events make it evident that police failed to perform its duty as mandated by law. Action is required against erring officials. Major reforms, including training and sensitisation, are needed in their functioning. They are after all the duty bearers for law enforcement.

Do not crucify the Orissa cops(specially the lady cops) on the testimony of one woman who is apparently very street smart under her veneer of sophistication. I have to give your video a thumbs down because you, who claim to be a fair independent journalist, did not bother to get the complete facts on the case, and only contributed to a media trial.
I am also a retired Naval officer, and any affront to our armed forces is deeply hurting; but more than anything is justice to all, the presentation of the actual facts. Having followed this news very closely from the beginning, along with all the videos that were released, I find that she hasn't committed any wrongdoing either morally or legally, barring the elevator incident, which I believe was unruly. The videos of the road scuffle and argument at the police station that were released show only a part of the truth. In an argument since one thing leads to another, a person's actions and words cannot be judged by just listening to a part of the argument.
In the 70s and 80s no policeman would have dared to behave in this fashion.
The army top brass need to be more explicit in their condemnation of this incident..

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way she was reasoning with the police-it's her civil right. It’s outrageous that there were no CCTV cameras in the police station. The police are meant to be civil servants, not disgraceful thugs. They must be held accountable for their actions. 1. 'enjoyed in the pub like anyone would do, nothing special '. Barkha didn't care to ask were you drunk too? It makes huge difference in the mind's cognitive and rational abilities after getting drunk which she was.
2. We tried to run away as quickly as we can. In the video it is clearly visible the major is trying to control her and other guys too are trying to control their own men. Moreover she kept on marching forward to take up a verbal argument. She wasn't polite too and intially only shouted madarchOd.
3. At the police station the way she's behaving for someone it can appear to be bold for someone straight impolite. Why isn't she releasing her version which she recorded in her phone ?
4. Hospital video - she is all fine within the premises but upon coming out hops on to a wheelchair and wears a dressing on hand.
5. The way she describes the sexual harrasment it looks unbelievable. What on earth would make police behave that way knowing she's a lawyer knowing her fiance is an army officer and they're not underprivileged vegabonds who will get un-noticed.

Absolute madness! If this can happen to a Lawyer and and Army Officer in Odisha, India you can imagine the utter lawlessness.
The police has not only failed to perform their basic duties but has also caused gross molestation of the victim. The dare to commit such offence by the police officers at the station is due to the culture of authoritativeness and dictatorship that is rampant in the police department itself. As rightly pointed out by Ankita's father in an interview, the police have duties and responsibilities first, while the authority is given to them only to discharge those duties.
From this statement we could guess that police personnels have taken steps to enjoy her and tried to keep her to be remained silent.
When one walked into a police station to report a crime, the last thing I expected was to be attacked and arrested by the very people who were supposed to stand for law and order.
This is a shocking, disgusting, and disappointing case of injustices right from the outset.
