What a surprise! Didn’t think these would arrive for many months yet, or even next year. In this video Ill take a close look at the wood grain effect. Does it look like wood for the scale modelled? Does this latest version match the detail of those previously released? What about that lighting, is it worth it? Let’s open them up and take a look.

Shame about the derailments but they do look fantastic, glad you got them running in the end. Wish the teak effect on the dapol Gresley Teaks was as good as that, looks very realistic.
Yes it was certainly a relief to have them running, generally they only run around 30-40 mph so there really isn’t a lot of expectation there, lol.
I know what you mean about the dapple coaches. These are OO gauge though. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Hi Kev, yes I’ve got them running nicely now, had to remove one coupling hook per set as they started derailing on tight curves. Also got Merton the beige terrier sorted too, so the train is complete and running.
Phenomenal level of detail and finish, and they look even more realistic with the lights on showing the interiors. Shame about the running issues...
Thanks Keith, they do look amazing. Just had to remove one coupling hook also, per coach, running has improved again. May have been the couplings all along. Might put original wheels back as a test.
They look superb! When lit up it adds more realism to them. I have just bought the same 4 wheelers in GNR livery from hornby so looking forward to running them on the layout.

A mate had some in another livery and ran very well so I'm sure they will run well.
Great looking warm teak tones with varied graining on these coaches. The color of this teak wood is so much better than the "bleached out" teak renditions done by Hornby and/or Dapol.
Hi, respectfully I have to disagree Im afraid, examples of real teak coaches tend to get darker. Im currently detailing a set of really old, cheap hornby teaks. The were so pale in comparison to the real counterparts. I haven't seen any examples the colour / tone of the model regardless of its age. The super detail model is much closer.
Thanks for saving me hours of frustration. My six-wheelers also derailed, but 2mins to swap out the middle wheels and they run fine. Not my era or region, but they are beautiful models and I’ve been really enjoying running them, they really are something special and surprised I got a set - I thought they’d sold our on pre-order, but Hatton’s were showing stock on Sunday so snapped up a set. Thank you and you are very welcome. I knew it was the centre wheel from my old Hornby palethorpes wagon. I’ve also removed one coupling hook from each coach as they also caused derailments on my R2 curves.
There are absolutely beautiful, I love all the details they have put into them. To bad te wheels needed to be fixed but that's a simple thing to do and doesn't detect from the beauty of how nice they look 😀

nice set John . it is amazing that the manufactures cant the set the Backs to backs to the correct Standard .
Thanks Geoff, its an assembly issue, rather than a manufacturing fault I think. There is a tube holding the two parts of the wheel set together, they were just not pushed together enough. They do run much better, not perfect but not far off.

They are very nice coaches and look very good once you got them running but yet again the basic's have been forgotten that out of the boxes they should run so back to backs out ok maybe one or two out but everyone no way and the center wheels yes side to side ok but they needed some springing so they could allow for track bumps after all the locos have them in the back bogies which work if enough room to do it (Dapol Large 2-6-2 after work by us!!!!) And yes paying £100 so you can turn out the lights is nuts a decoder should be included after all they can get them a lot cheaper than we can but overall nice buy and hope you are NOW happy!!!!.

Lol, yes got them running around as I type. The couple of issues are quite basic, and its amazing they run so much better with 40-50 year old wheels on the centre axle. Gratefully it was an easy fix, along with b2bs also.
Hi John. Thanks for the review. I love my Genesis coaches, however.................. I also have trouble with my only six wheeler de railing all the time. I thought it was me and my track as usual! I will have to fix this issue as you have. I am waiting for launch three to buy some more but it will only be the four wheel version this time. Lesson learnt.
I know what you mean, I swapped mine for modern coach wheels and removed one coupling hook per coupling pair. I think the couplings were forcing coaches off the track on tight curves. Hope that helps
Very nice set of coaches there John I am currently buying the track I need for my n scale layout. I am building it specifically so I can run large American steam and railfan while I am at it. Once I have all the track I can setup the roadbed and then start scenery.

The wood effect does look nice on these I must admit.
Its funny you know I mention the design of the middle axle on the 6 wheelers, I remember relaying the same concern to Hatton's as there's is a slider and has no vertical movement unlike Hornby, for that I got blocked haha, so I was right, as these at tested on their billards table test track it doesn't show the issue.
Details good but when they don't run properly what's the point.
I am also seeing quite a few roof fittings looking poorly fitted on yours and others.
Visually Im really pleased with them, they do look stunning going around the layout, but like any stock with fixed wheels they find every bump and jolt in the track. The centre wheel just created a seesaw effect, it was ridiculous until I swapped the wheels, the replacements are barely 1mm smaller but such a difference.
They look beautiful John, The lights inside would be gas (no battery box), on this subject they look a bit bright but at least they give a yellow glow! I am suprised about the gaugeing of the wheel sets & you are lucky to to have a slightly smaller set of axles around (new modelers might not have them! Being more modern image (I havent looked on the Hattons web) NCB miners train hauled by a Peckett or Barclay would make a interesting train.
Now Ive dealt with the two issues they are running much better. I bought another 2-3 old hornby wagons from the 1970s and it was just a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul so to speak.
I have a nice lil rake of those chaldrens and do use a pecket. They look great, Ill try to include them on a future running session.
I spotted you had subscribed to my channel. I assume you watched my Genesis video not my going mad fire video.
I'd guess the 4 pack sleeve is open ended to allow a common sleeve but containing a different mix of 4 coaches as Hattons see fit, their own individual box ends then show which 4 coaches are contained.
Interesting about the back to back issues; I never thought to check that, but I have the necessary gauge/adjuster so I will now. However, the six wheeler I tested quite comprehensively over all sorts of points, behaved rather well. I will do another video with all 11 coaches running on that same layout, hopefully with my Sterling Single pulling them, however, its DCC so might not work.
I do like these coaches very much, especially the wood grain effect, very nicely done. It wasn’t difficult to get the running quality I need.
How do you remove the roof without damaging the paint work.
Hi, Ive had these coaches a fair few months now, so without digging out the boxes and paperwork (it's somewhere). I do show them in this video, think I used my fingernails to hook under. Dont remember it being that difficult. Im sure I saw a video where someone popped off a roof. I didnt damage the paintwork, just dont use metal is my suggestion.

Hi Piccadilly, I just removed the roof from one of my Genesis coaches without damage using a Nylon Plastic Spudger Stick for pry off the roof. Go carefully not to twist the tool flange using the flat edge of the tool. Then you can gently work off the clip attachments. Note, on another model, I was unable to get the roof off. This was a W&U tram car made by Rapido UK because the roof clips are not that flexible and too tightly secured to the body of the car. I damaged the paint finish on wall at the roof line sliding the prying tool along. Regarding the 6 wheel coaches and derailment issues with the Genesis coaches. This is caused by lack of sufficient vertical slot spring action of the center wheel axle to move up and down over uneven or arching track work.
Out of all the hattons genesis coach easy the best ones. Have 3 two brake and one full brake. But wish a did order 3 of the normal 4 wheel coaches wasn't brake to make a nice sets. At least there go great with LNER war time brown.
Thanks Ben, sometimes it is hard to choose something we can’t see. We go by manufacturer’s drawings or 3d renders, make our decisions accordingly. If only we could see into the future it would be easier to choose.

I checked all my coaches for back to back errors. All my 11 coaches were spot on, so I wonder why yours were up to 1mm out ?
Hi, no idea, could have been a Friday afternoon batch. Mine run soooooo much better. Because of my R2 curves I also removed one coupling hook. Could have been couplings all along?
