I don’t agree with manufacturers making things that you have to pre-order or miss out. Some people don’t want to pre-order as they want to see the finished product before buying…

At the same time, if they release them without you realising, and you sit back and wait for someone to review them before buying, only to find they have already sold out before the review, you've still missed out. There was only a limited number going to be made of each type.

    • @DevilsEyeCT

@@CaseyJonesNumber1 I didn’t know there was only a limited run of each type so it’s understandable in this case.

@@DevilsEyeCT everything nowadays in the model world is produced on a limited run - there's nothing like a continuous production line of anything nowadays...factories are contracted to make x number for their customer, and that's it, they then start making something else...until they are contracted to make more of the same.

Some people have only just decided that their next layout is going to be early GWR and never stood a chance. It's so short-sighted - GWR coaches have been neglected forever and could have sold out several times over.

Maybe a bit generous, with some of the scores here? Hattons are to be 👏for their efforts, but they haven’t, by any means, got it all right.

Great review from Jenny as always. One thing I am very disappointed with is the anti flicker circuit in the Genesis coaches. When you lift the coach off the track the lights go out almost immediately. They should stay lit for a min of a couple of seconds. This seems to indicate that the capacitor used in the anti flicker circuit is too small to mask even momentary loss of contact with power. It is a 100 micro farad capacitor. In my own home built circuits I use a 470 micro farad capacitor with excellent results. I'm going to swap it out in one of my Genesis coaches. I'll report back on how I get on.

Re the BR generator van. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that the blue & grey on these coaches was very early, and not the same as the standard colours used on the full national rollout .

The coaches look amazing and I am interested in the NER, GNR etc. I do however have two reservations about them. 1. The brake rods rubbing on the axles, they cannot be as intended. 2. I haven't rechecked the video, but I thought there was a capacitor fitted in the lighting circuit?. I think Hattons are going to have a recall on these models. As for the problem when using DCC, I am not a DCC modeller. Great review thank you, Jenny. Martin (Thailand) I have just renewed my membership, but I could not scroll up the confirmation.

Lovely review Jenny. I have three of the SECR Genesis coaches on pre-order and am looking forward to getting them. I'm going to run them with my Dapol SECR Terrier.

I've got the blue and white generator coach with lights. I like it but I tink they are a bit expensive. I have MR and LMS sets on order. It wil be interesting to see the LMR coaches if they release them although they would be far from what I have seen used on the LMR.

Interesting how the coaches seem to flicker even with the small capacitors. Seeing as other coaches have the same issue when moving I wouldnt be surprised if it's a case of bad pickups. Maybe the amount of sideplay due to the long length of the coaches causes some trouble? Hopefully it can be fixed relatively easily, I'm not a fan of using poluting batteries for something like this.
For some of the technical experts here: Would it be possible to permanently couple multiple coaches and use one decoder to control them all? I suspect that soldering some cables from one master coach
with a decoder to control a couple of slave coaches might make for a cost effective option if youre going to use rakes, not unlike how the Bachmann Pullman uses decoders only in the power cars that send signals to the coaches.

Great review. I installed the Hattons decoder with no problem. Mine are the GWR coaches with oil lamps.. Not been able to dim the lights for some reason. The zimo decoder can dim and apparently replicate oil lamp flicker.. Not sure if the train o matic decoder can ... Will have to see.....Great review Jen as usual.

I wish you would stop moving and rotating the LMS coach so we can capture a STILL /SHARP "print screen" photo of the coach.

Lovely little cars with some variety. The locos fir this period are also quite colorful-- about time to match them up.
Nice job giving them exercise. They really are very charming.

Yes, but coached that pick up from the track always suffer from flickering, capacitor or not.
At least the Hornby version, running on watch batteries, is reliably lit.

Not at all happy with Hattons! Have heard that some chassis are bent. Hope mine turn up ok!
    Been waiting long time!

You haven't got yours yet, so how can you be unhappy with Hattons about someone else's coaches? I've got fifteen of the GWR coaches, 4 and 6 wheel versions - and not a bent chassis among them...

I can see many Irish modellers with fibre pens and other gear, changing crests. These are just superb.

    • @CaseyJonesNumber1
      @CaseyJonesNumber1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think I read somewhere that Hattons have already been approached about doing some Irish versions. Unfortunately they'll most likely have to wait a while until all the already-announced versions have been produced.

Hi Jenny. I think that the generator coach was a much later creation and was probably painted using the blue paint that was found to be unsuitable for use on the locomotives as it didn't last well but on the generator van wouldn't have been subjected to so much muck and was probably protected from the elements by being stored under cover with the rest of the film equipment. Bye from Ian.

Great review and interesting comparison with the Hornby coaches. I agree that a decoder in every coach seems excessive and would be very expensive when fitted to a whole rake. I wonder if some kind of stay-alive super capacitor might stop the light flicker??

So, the decoder didn't work in two different coaches, could it just possibly be a duff decoder!
