    I can imagine a valorous hunting cadre composed of all Guardinals being tasked to rid an area of Demon spawn and undead. Each with different class lvls in an almost choreographed dance of death as they massacre the forces of evil. It's the stuff Demon Lords have nightmares about.

    Played an Aasimar Druid shapeshifter who was the Son of a female Archdruid and the Paragon Lupinal in a 3.5 game that turned into a sprawling Planescape trek. Was fun as balls trying to follow his Dad hither and yon across the planes and catch up to him in order to get him to help defeat the BBG and save his Mom. Found him dying on the fields of Tartarus. Character sacrificed himself to cover the escape of Dad and the rest of the party into the portal. Ended up getting scooped up by the powers at the last second and reincarnated as the new paragon. Planewalked in on the final battle with the BBG at the very last second and saved the day by tearing his throat out with glowing fangs. Epic, legendary fricking win. Was fun as balls to play him afterwards in a Savage Species campaign we pivoted to after that.

    I noticed there were no aquatic, or lizard Guardinals. I'm picturing dolphin like Guardinals to fill in the oceanic spot with a fairly playful demeanor traveling in pods of 6 to 12 members. Lizard Guardinals could be like frilled lizards roving arid areas & often away on scouting missions trying to track the plots of evil on the various planes of the Multiverse, usually traveling alone, or at most in pairs they are quiet & studious individuals, more content to listen than speak.

      I know this is a fantasy world, but I suggest sharks instead.
      If my research on dolphins and sharks are true: Dolphins are rapists and kill for fun. While Sharks are more akin to true neutral but I have seen videos of sharks being pet and bellyrubbed like dogs, also if the entire "Lemon sharks get jealous" thing is correct. Yeah

      That's so very true. The guardinals are just based on very common english countryside animals, like plain yogourt. For Elysium, I want strawberry fruit yogourt... I expected peacocks, spotted dogs, giraffes, zebras, capybaras, quetzals, porpoises, manatees, sharks, whales, narwhals, crabs, and lots of lizards. Something you would expect to see in the garden of Eden or just animals you would see in a rich Arabian king's backyard.

      I quite like the equinals, they have festivals kind of like the highland games, but, non-equinals kind of get accidentally 'broken'. Also, when they set about getting a difficult task done, they won't stop until they finish it, even when leadership changes their orders, they carry right on, achieving the impossible as others stand by, watching and shaking their heads.

    God, So many cool aasimar concepts could come some these, WoTC really need to do something like a wild aasimar witch is basically an aasimar with animal traits. I've always wanted to do an aasimar bases off a celestial wolf or a creature like a Kirin. Although with the wolf aasimar I'd just flavor a fallen aasimar, Because the character I have in mind is a little bit inspire by Princess Mononoke and how the spirit gods turn necrotic when slain (???), So I imagine an aasimar born to a tribe, then the tribe is killed off expect the aasimar baby, leaving no one to remember the god leaving the aasimar child with the necrotic energy of a half dead god.

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    • @reifuTD
      @reifuTD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AJPickettI can't see how the aasimar would be dead, I just see that wolf that's their patron that their energy flows from turns dark and corrupted, corrupting them. I'd call the god half dead because the wolf was a local demi god, after people get wiped out the wolf only lives though few that's left that know it's story, Even among the few that story extends to "Once there was a wolf," and that's it. With those who know the full legend even fewer.

      @agentchaos9332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @MrOortCloud
      @MrOortCloud 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@agentchaos9332 Fair enough. They are at least capable of running on all fours though. Maybe a rule that they can use their action to double it for one round or something?

    • @levifowler7933
      @levifowler7933 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrOortCloud that works! Something to also keep in mind is that most fast animals don't have an easy time sustaining speed. Most of the data we have on the speed of bears comes from the 1930s, when such methods were not great in tracking speed or pace. That data suggests that bears may be able to keep up their high speeds for up to 2 mi, but we don't know how trustworthy or repeatable that data is

    I love these beings and thanks for this video AJ. The lion guys, the top one, reminded me of a feat I have as either a class ability or possible purchasable feat: Exotic Weapon Use.
    In that one, the player has a +1 per level in that the class he purchased it in to counteract any negative penalties... but only to counteract the penalties. Sound lame? It gets powerful. That also counteracts called shots, trick shots, etc. with that weapon. So, a level 20 assassin with that talent surprises you and does a headshot on you with his ridiculously cumbersome 3-part-rod-Kusari-Gama hybrid that has a base to-hit with a -4 and additional called shot penalties doubled. On top of the to-hit penalties, other penalties are canceled out... you are in danger... his theatric leap from the shadows probably did not penalize his surprise during the attack, and his STR bonus penalty is also removed in that weapon on top of others.
    That lion Guardinal with that cumbersome asinine staff-blade dual weapon reminded me of that... fantasy characters can specialize in overcoming asinine weapons' faults to make them work.

      In the current edition, Mythic Odysseys of Theros has a leonin race. If you want to play them/run them, I recommend having a discussion with your dm, as some dms will edit/phase out at lower levels particularly powerful racial abilities

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There have been playable Leonals in earlier editions, currently, in 5th edition, Leonals would be suitable for mid to high tier play, levels above 5 at least, they are very powerful beings that travel the planes and kick a lot of ass. One easy option is start off with a Leonin from Theros as a base character, add your chosen character class, give them an Outlander background, or perhaps Local Hero, then as they level up, you can opt to, instead of gaining a class level, unlock some of the celestial powers they have, such as one of their innate spell abilities, the more devastating powers, such as their roar and aura ability would unlock at the same time they gain character class levels where they could normally cast spells of that level anyway. This means you effectively take perhaps twice as long to level up as other characters, but, the Leonin don't die of old age, they have all the time in the world to grow into their true power.

    I have to admit the Guardinals are pretty intense the general armies of the Celestials and defenders of Elysium. I got some questions for you One is it alright if I include the Dragonals from Pathfinder into their ranks and if so how should I treat them? Two. Does Protection Against good and evil protect you from the negative effects of being on Elysium?

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Protection from evil and good only works against creatures, not environments. (there may be other spells for that, never shy away from inventing new spells as needed for your games). Dragonals, sounds like fun, go for it. I am not a pathfinder expert, in D&D the dragons are kind of scarce in the outer planes, all things considered, they are more common in the elemental planes, but, for the gem and metallic dragons, sure, Dragonals would make sense.

    I used savage species to play a half dragon centaur fighter, specializing in flying lance charges.
    I can’t remember his name now but he was an unusual fusion of a blue dragon and a horse man, purely because a mage wanted to achieve an artistic aesthetic for his creation.
    He lived a good life at the hands of this wizard surprisingly and even became an adept painter. But his true calling was war.

      Four legs and six arms of different sizes. The two biggest ones are used to move faster for dashes in a six-limb rush.
      Reading you reminded me of that wacky idea. I should draw it some time...
