I’ve had placements with Trippie Redd, Kehlani, Machine Gun Kelly and many more and I think this is one of the greatest videos. there are so many reasons to overthink now as a producer, especially with all the tutorials, producer info, keyword search help … all this content creates the illusion that you were actually doing something for yourself by watching it… but the bottom line is if you don’t make music as much as possible, you will never create the quality you need to obtain a career! JUST PRODUCE. Love it. My entire career has blossomed just by DOING IT. Not by watching tutorials, or getting sucked into “doing the right thing”, it’s by taking chances and dropping beats every single day
This is a great philosophy not only in music production but in life as well. Challenge your limiting beliefs, let go of judgement of yourself and others, and live every day as a perpetual novice, constantly learning and growing. You really tapped into some good stuff here.
Interesting thing is, many times the songs you think are not your best (the ones you spent less time producing and mixing) seem to be the ones that your listeners like the most. Just get quality stuff done as fast as you can and publish, end of overthinking. It's a mindset. Also, very true that our music isn't that precious. Awesome video!
I paused the video when you listed -limiting beliefs -perfectionism -overthinking so I could see how these three things affected me. Personally, I realized I strive so hard to sound perfect that it became dreadful and i ended up telling myself its not possible which caused me to only think about that when it came to making music.
Great vid! This reminds me of Nic D's story: He was super hype about a song he made, so he wanted to prepare a ton of promotional content for it and stuff like that. While preparing for its' release he wanted to quickly release something "in between". He made a song in 2 afternoons and released it without paying too much though to it. The song he made "in between" ended up being his most viral hit. The one he was actually hype about - flopped.
5:03 this right here is actually one of the best pieces of advice ive heard on this. just gotta let go of your music sometimes. not every song is going to be perfect and you will make better ones in the future!
Thank you for this, man. Lately, I almost stopped producing because I felt my music was going nowhere, that I was not improving, that it wasn't this good after all ... But after watching your video, I thought that maybe I should try keeping up, I went back to some of my numerous abandonned projects, I tried not to be as judgemental as before and to stop overthinking about the process, the lack of techniques that I could hear in some aspects of the track, and the result is, even if it doesn't sound perfect, but at least I eventually managed to enjoy doing music again, and I finished some projects that I was struggling with. Thank you for this, Akayo. I'll do my best to keep in mind your advices.
I watch this video on repeat everytime I overthink while making music and I overthink a lot. I feel behind and I am not as skilled as I want to be. This video showed me what I really have to work on. Patience and acceptance. This video helped a lot
This is just the video I needed 😅 Real talk, I'd probably get a lot more done if I wasn't obsessing over "does the kick hit right" (as an example). Drum production and general mixing are my Achilles Heel, and I overthink that stuff to such an insane degree that I actually wind up making a good track worse than if I'd just let it go. Great video, man.
I was making music in my early twenties. I was making so many beats and enjoyed my own beats even if someone didn’t like them. But then overthinking really got me. And i stopped altogether. Now im 32 and feel so bad for not continuing producing music. I’m starting again with a new mindset. Thank you for the encouragement brother.
Sincere thanks... you showed me why i keep closing my projects and not completing tracks. I realised when I started producing , it was for fun. Thanks buddy 👑
thanks for making this, i struggle a ton with thinking what i should do or not especially when finishing up a song - i make the majority of the song in the first hour or so and then spend way more time on the fine details that don't really matter as much
Thank you for this. I do this often with my music and it makes me take long breaks which aren't helpful. Been back on it the past month and am having fun just creating and not overthinking.
Yo dope stuff, You should make a video like "fixing my subscribers beats" or "fixing my old beats" would love to see you go in depth about stuff like that to help us mix better
Never thought that someone who is way younger than me (only by the looks lol) would have that type of vast expressiveness and best advices for me. I wan't to digest everything that you have, because the way you have this perception to a daily producer obstacles is priceless. Akayo, don't stop. Real G.
I almost didn’t watch the video simply because your channel didn’t have a ton of subs yet (stupid reason I know) but I’m so happy i did. You hit like every nail on the head with my mentality right now it’s crazy. If you keep up content like this you’ll grow fast. Earned a sub from me
wanna keep producing and pushing my music. I'm trying to mix doing all that with the current training program I'm going through. I keep thinking a lot, and I end up not finishing my projects, though I eventually get to them, but after a long while
I have always been very critical and demanding with my own music, and this means that only 10 or 20% of my projects are released. Sometimes, when I listen to the music of another artist within my same genre, I think: if I had created that track, I would surely not be satisfied with it and would throw it away. This makes me think that you are most likely right.
by overthinking, you could make a bad song, by not overthinking and make multiple little beat until you get a good one, finishing it, and by listening, it the best way to make you go up (:
Just recently I decided I'm not going to overthink or be a perfectionist anymore about creating and releasing music. No judgement is just what I needed to hear.
The things that really spoke to me were about -perfectionism Because I’m working on a track right now and yesterday i was really having fun producing it but then I started overthinking and stopped for the day Now here I am today trying to work on the same track, but it isn’t as fun today, because it feels forced This video just popped up on my feed, and I’ve never heard of your channel before, but it was the perfect video for me right now.
perfectionism, limiting beliefs, and overthinking stem from one thing that’s deeper Conflicting goals, If you are trying to produce music because of X Where x is To make money To get fans To prove how good you are Then you are not producing to make music. Simply changing your goal to instead be the process of production, but more importantly the enjoyment of the process is the fastest way to overcome perfectionism, overthinking, and limiting beliefs. Hopefully this helps someone :)
It's true though, overthinking kills your creativity. Whenever i overthink it's like new ideas stops coming and i am stuck in that same thing. But if I don't overthink new ideas are popping like crazy. But also overthinking is not in my control, it's just natural to me.
Ive never made or released a song that I didn't like myself, I make all my music for ME first, and overthinking is one thing i learned first not to do. I have 50 songs on youtube, put a new one out every week,.. I can't overthink. 😆
I definitely overthink, but I know I can just sit down and make something, but I have an issue with the way my beats sound that makes that even harder to. I don’t really know how to explain it, but I feel that it’s either my mixing or my sound selection but again idk. The quality just don’t come out like other beats I hear on TH-cam
IDK, man... I think your advice is good, but I personally have a different kind of problem... A lot of times I have an almost completed track - the last part is to add the synths everywhere, but the problem is that I don't really know what I want and what will or won't sound good. Ok, that doesn't stop and I try a bunch of random stuff, then go like "Ok, I'm onto something". After that I start doing sound design (which takes a lot of time, because I'm pretty sluggish in general (in regard to everything IRL)) and make some patches that sound like shit. And then I spend hours to "decrapify" them. That's my problem and I don't know what to do about that.
Stop thinking idiot - That caught me hard, you were talking about me 🤣😂 The perfectionist bug can hinder your progress. This applies in many situations not just music.
The making of more music is the fun killer. You have to make less music for it to be fun. Why do you need to make more music? Even the best artists (or producers), with decades of experience, actually have no more than 20-30 good tracks. And they are usually at the beginning of their musical journey. Maybe couple of years from the initial point of starting of producing. Not at the 20th year of their careers. Only the composers (film) are actually making better “tracks” with experience and age…
Hell Ya!
Been following ya for years keep it up
"You get the best results whenever you have the courage to take imperfect actions."
Damn, that's a bomb of philosophical wisdom. Thank you, brother.
My motto as an engineer was "make music now, they can tell us why it sucks later."
I love being 42 and being inspired by someone half my age. Love your channel man.
44 here!
That again inspires me to never stop learning! Thank you guys 🙏📿

16 here btw
2026 years old here!

"There's this phenomenon where your least favourite tracks are the ones that other people like the most" ... FACTS
I paused the video when you listed

so I could see how these three things affected me. Personally, I realized I strive so hard to sound perfect that it became dreadful and i ended up telling myself its not possible which caused me to only think about that when it came to making music.
This has held me back so much and kept me from just making music and going with the flow

"You're awesome", thank you so much man
Overthinking, or being a perfectionist also yields amazing product. But only when you are at a capable skill level.
I watch this video on repeat everytime I overthink while making music and I overthink a lot. I feel behind and I am not as skilled as I want to be. This video showed me what I really have to work on. Patience and acceptance. This video helped a lot

I've wrote three songs this week. Two of them have at least two takes and the third I have the first verse and chorus done 😊
I was making music in my early twenties. I was making so many beats and enjoyed my own beats even if someone didn’t like them. But then overthinking really got me. And i stopped altogether. Overthinking has been my biggest enemy. You’ve helped me and im sure many others. Thank you 🙏
thank you so much! I could't finish the track for the life of me and I saw your video and it gave me motivation! love your videos🙏
Yo dope stuff, You should make a video like "fixing my subscribers beats" or "fixing my old beats" would love to see you go in depth about stuff like that to help us mix better
I’ve subscribed! I appreciate you taking take out of your life to help others. This is key in my journey

I wan't to digest everything that you have, because the way you have this perception to a daily producer obstacles is priceless.
Akayo, don't stop. Real G.
What I like about your videos are that they have nothing to do with actually producing. Goes way deeper towards life. Keep it up, super unique.
Very nice video man. U literally opened my eyes. Keep it up G

Such wisdom from such a young man. Keep doing what you do and success will follow.

ty for this video my adhd be killing me when i make beats. Then sending the beat to my friends and my anxiety takes over.
Your advice is surprisingly mature for your age man. Keep it up. ❤
Thank you bro I needed this
Hey, love your videos! Wondering if you'd make a video walking us through your FL Studio template soon!
It's true though, overthinking kills your creativity.

The second I read what the thumbnail said I fully understood.
This young lad got it spot on.
I’m curious, excited to redoing sounds we've already made. Now with new skills, and experience.
I am a perfectionist which has a positive and a negative Outcome when it comes to my beats.
Agreed.
Kick ass bro, good shit. keep it up!!!!
Just seeing the thumbnail managed to fix my writers block
I change the beat everyday for 3 weeks... Yeah, this is real
Thank you 😊
Thank you you are very wise for your age 💯
Nice content,so underrated channel
such good advice! thank you
this is amazing thank you so much
Completely unrelated question - but what light/lamp is behind you for your facecam shots? Looks so good.
That's literally me! ~ an Idea I have for you is to make a vid on mics... Or smth. Just wondering, what do you use? You make awesome real vids. Thanks
I use a Blue Snowball I got 4 years ago lol. It's all about how you process the voice which maybe Ill make a video about. And thanks for the comment!
Great work ive always struggled here
i'll try to apply this to design, ty
Thanks man!
I’m 49 and this is great stuff.

Thx brother
Oh man, I need a whip, my overthinking keeps going for years already... I really need to produce something again for my own sanity ..
Needed this
I definitely overthink, but I know I can just sit down and make something, but I have an issue with the way my beats sound that makes that even harder to. great video😊
you just need to apply what you know

👍
