      Wouldn't it be better to copyright protect your stuff before sending it?

    • @NileWaves
      @NileWaves  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@HOLLASOUNDS In US law, once you create something, it is copyrighted automatically without you having to do anything. Some people however want governmental records of their copyright so they will add their compositions to the library of congress.

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@NileWaves Same in the UK you own copyright for anything you creat however you still have to prove it and patetully pay significant legal fees fighitng someone if they for example post your music to Distrokid without you?

    • @archive160
      @archive160 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HOLLASOUNDS DistroKid wouldn't allow it; prior to publishing said project, Distrokid goes through each track and searches for instants of plagiarism. If what you're trying to publishing sounds similar to something already out there, you get copyrighted and prevented from publishing on certain platforms.

      This is a huge thing for creativity. Learning the techniques used to make songs you like is what producing is all about.

    • @RifleEyez
      @RifleEyez 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I keep telling myself I should try this. I wonder if trying to replicate songs from memory you like but haven't heard in a while, but without listening to them again may also help. Like basically biting the whole thing how you think it sounded, but because you're not actually actively listening to it as you try remake it, it'll end up a different beat entirely.
      I mean there's that quote about the secret to creativity is hiding your sources after all.

    One thing Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5) said on one of his live streams was that everybody thinks the only way to make money in music is to get signed, be a rocks star, etc. He said his parents told him to get a job because he wasn't making any money. He decided to get a job making flash video music for companies. Eventually that helped out and for fun he released the song faxing berlin, he was already djing at local clubs, but something about that song really pulled off, and then ghosts n stuff. I remember him starting out back in 2008. It took him almost 10 years until he got famous. His mouse head was basically a joke at pac man, and he thought it would be funny if he wore it live, and people thought it was great. I remember the contests, where whomever had the coolest mouse head got it personally signed or worn by him, or something like that. He was also into graphic design, and made a 3d model of his mouse head after finding out a dead mouse was actually in his computer. But the point of this story, is that this guy came from a fucking basement situation, and didn't limit himself. He also says, everybody tries to put out their stuff online, which is fine, but he said that your chances of success are much higher giving a physical copy of your work to the record company or producer, than just an email. Same thing with Billie Eilish's brother. Her ocean eyes video was just for her dance class, she actually wanted to be a dancer, but fucked her hip up, and a promoter from apple saw the video on youtube, and boom, it took 5 years later until her debut came out with her when we fall asleep album. You would be surprised. But its going to be a hobby when you first start out. You need multiple sources of income, and just have fun. Learn more about the music business, immerse your self in it as much as possible, become an expert. To be a master at anything, you have to adopt that identity as a world class musician or producer and do those actions that world class producers do. That goes with anything in life.

    When I first started making music (Only been at it for under a year)
    I didn't really think about all the elements. But as you begin to make your own stuff, you really start listening to all the aspects of a song instead of just the song as a whole.
    Like damn this snare, hi-hat, piano, etc. Sounds dope, this is really well connected!

    one amazing tip i can give is, i can't give out my secret but learn the academic side to it instead of what just sounds good to you, then combine the academic side and the personal opinion of what sounds good together, most learn the academic side from a good music college, but there is another way to learn academically outside of school. youtube is good but not the gold mine where you will find this academic information. Also another cheat code i can give it learn to play the piano, then use your piano playing skills to help create midi
