  • The fighting concept of Muay Boran has always been the same from its development centuries ago: to take the fight where it needs to go. Ironically, this timeless concept is as applicable today as it was back then.
In many ways, any traditional Martial Arts system can loose it original intent. But if we practice the lessons in a practical manner while integrating it with modern standards, then Muay Boran can, not only work, but thrive in today's fighting environment.

Honest Question: I have no Muay Thai or even a Kickboxing or boxing gym nearby for a good few hours over, I have had people tell me to simply train at home, but after viewing this video, I am understanding that I may not be able to train in a combative way, is this correct?

for combative training, it's always optimum to go to a school and train with experienced partners

Aside from elbows and knees, Muay Boran includes grabbing, rolling, takedowns as well as more striking variations than modern Muay Thai

ground skills are essential to becoming an even better striker. for even the very best fighters can end up on the ground at any given moment

It's pointless to discuss about muay boran unless you speak of a specific lineage. More or better known muay boran styles are Muay Korat, Muaythai Lopburi, Muay TaSao, Muay Chaiya and Muay of Department of Physical Education, which is the modern sport muaythai. Each style is distinctly different from each other. You cannot conglomerate or bundle these styles. Incidentally, Boran is Ancient = Obsolete.

We can and we will. What’s pointless is thinking that fighting is linear, when in fact, fighting is dynamic. In ancient days, the term Muay Boran did not exist and fighting skills were simply called “Muay”. Muay Boran is a generic term that encompasses all the ancient fighting systems. And the mindset of fighting in general, be it back then or in today’s environment is to use what works. Imagine telling fighters of any style that they cannot add or discuss spinning back elbows because it’s only for Muay Boran stylists. It’s absurd to think that any one style will be enough to handle all fighting scenarios. In the real world, you can’t argue your way out of a fight. You can only use skills you are confident in regardless of which style it is. Muay Boran is alive and well for those who constantly train and test it, not for those who simply research and theorize all day. What’s obsolete is your argument. Fighters and dedicated martial artists know exactly what I’m talking about because “Game recognize Game”.
