I feel like one of the biggest if not the the biggest issue with this hobby is petco and petsmart. I have had my freshwater aquarium for about ten years and before setting up I read a few books which was great. However through the years as issues and questions have come up I have found 99% of the employees at these big box stores just aren’t knowledgeable. They sell fish without giving you any information about what you are buying etc. it’s too bad because so many issues could be avoided if only the people selling the fish and equipment were knowledgeable about what they were selling. Thanks for the great videos!

I'm surprised not to see clown knife fish. Beautiful majestic fish. I had a pair of 4 ft royal clowns in my 300 gallon years ago. Absolutely one of the best fresh water fish. Pictus Catfish should be on this list too.
The whole Flowerhorn thing reminds me of a similar phenomenon that happened in the 1800s when Victorians decided to breed dogs for exaggerated features: pugs, bulldogs, etc. Those breeds were distorted and ruined, they developed health issues, shortened lifespans, and congenital defects in the service of humans competing for the most "extreme" pet body styles and features. It's a terrible thing to do to mammals and I can't imagine it helps the fish either. Sorry about my mini rant, but I wish this would be discussed more.
My shark grew to 14 inches and eats tons also don't keep small fish in the tank when they get this big. They'll come up missing. I also have a pleco that's close to 2 feet long.
Great video! Shocked by Sharks and Flowerhorns (esp. @ #1 - although they may be the most current trendy/popular ). Thought the list would include Oscars, Gourami, or Corys instead. 👍🏼
My favourite is in the list - sharks. I have kept bala sharks. they are majestic. But I dont hv 6' tank so rehomed them and neve kept again. But I love and adore rainbow and Red-tails. Centrepiece in my 42g for last 20 years. Current one is 10 years old and going strong. They are hardy fish. Doesn't poop or eat a lot. Stay healthy. Minds own business. I keep them with gouramis to maintain the bioload low. What's not to love! 💕❤💗
My favorites are the Clown Loach, the Texan, and the Firemouth. The problem with Neon Tetras is they are so small that when one dissapears, its hard to find. Right now I have one missing, and I suspect my Texan ate it
my dad got a huge tank complete with lots of fish and a big pleco, they named him Habib, after their waiter for that night's dinner, he lived for multiple years and got big, however, he started to eat other fish he had lived for many years and it was time to go so we had to flush him down the toilet, but turns out he was not dead so he outswam the power of flush and so we ended up with a big fish in a toilet.
Why not glofish? I just got my first aquarium of 37 gallons to have 6 tetra, 3 long fin and 3 regular, 4 of the small 2inch ones that I don't remember the name of and haven't gotten yet, and 1 shark and 1 4 inch plecotomus. I've so far experienced the bad luck already but currently have 4 living tetras right now and waiting to get more to fill it up. Lost all but one of the fist bunch of fish. Just curious about why to get rid of them.
A while back I bought 10 baby feeder guppies because I couldn't stand the thought of babies being eaten alive. I didn't know how fast guppies have babies. I started out with a 10 gallon and I have them in a 32 gallon now. There are probably 50 now. I started calling the mamas pez dispensers and the babies are pez. They never stop having babies. I got my sister to set up a tank and I gave her some of them. She is taking all of the males so that the numbers will eventually stabilize. But I am happy that I saved their lives and nothing got to eat any of them.
My first was a arrowana but my brother put soap in her tank I was so sad but I never knew that she would get SO BIG I probably would have never been able to keep her when she got full-size though but I wish I could have and here soon I’m getting another one and now I actually know what I’m doing and I’m prepared to make a very large pond for her
Personally, gold fish skeeve me out, like big time. I just find them so super gross. LOL. My son had a couple at one point that were given to him when we moved because we couldn't take his guppy tank with us, but I wasn't sad when they eventually croaked.

I have a 125 with several of the fish on this list! 😂😂 I have 6-7 giant danios. Super active!!
Nice fish 😉👍🙋♀️
love my little neons, so under rater, i think the cheapness puts people off
For me, it's how expensive they are. Little Neon tetra costs me 2 dollars a fish. I need at least 6.
Have had my ryukan goldfish for 3 years
Flowerhorns... yuk! XD
@@alchemiejocson7210 Looks like a tumor
You should do a video about the best type of plecos for small aquariums and what they can go with.
I think koi fish is so popular too. Especially in Asia...
Nick Goodman Thats more of a pond fish
Great video! Shocked by Sharks and Flowerhorns (esp. @ #1 - although they may be the most current trendy/popular ). Thought the list would include Oscars, Gourami, or Corys instead. 👍🏼
This really helped a lot I love your videos
Right now I have one missing, and I suspect my Texan ate it
Great job KGTropicals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video
No oscars?! By far my favorite fish to keep. So much personality and plus the color options!
Loving these videos. They really thought me alot
my dad got a huge tank complete with lots of fish and a big pleco, they named him Habib, after their waiter for that night's dinner, he lived for multiple years and got big, however, he started to eat other fish he had lived for many years and it was time to go so we had to flush him down the toilet, but turns out he was not dead so he outswam the power of flush and so we ended up with a big fish in a toilet.
Honey gouramis (any gourami basically) are one of my favourite along with sharks. Not in list :(
Why not glofish? I just got my first aquarium of 37 gallons to have 6 tetra, 3 long fin and 3 regular, 4 of the small 2inch ones that I don't remember the name of and haven't gotten yet, and 1 shark and 1 4 inch plecotomus. I've so far experienced the bad luck already but currently have 4 living tetras right now and waiting to get more to fill it up. Lost all but one of the fist bunch of fish. Just curious about why to get rid of them.
beautiful! refreshing to see these cute lil creatures
Just got my first 20 gallon tank and ordered a flower horn I’m so hype this is gonna be awesome
Are you going to get a bigger tank because 20 gallons is way too small for a flowerhorn
Yeah my kili fish were really angry when i put the danios in with them. Kept nipping the danios fins and chasing them around.
Great video 👍
A while back I bought 10 baby feeder guppies because I couldn't stand the thought of babies being eaten alive. I didn't know how fast guppies have babies. I started out with a 10 gallon and I have them in a 32 gallon now. There are probably 50 now. I started calling the mamas pez dispensers and the babies are pez. They never stop having babies. I got my sister to set up a tank and I gave her some of them. She is taking all of the males so that the numbers will eventually stabilize. But I am happy that I saved their lives and nothing got to eat any of them.
4:50 I was not expecting that
I always love your top ten. And again this one looks spot on.
I have *NEVER* had a gold fish before
My first was a arrowana but my brother put soap in her tank I was so sad but I never knew that she would get SO BIG I probably would have never been able to keep her when she got full-size though but I wish I could have and here soon I’m getting another one and now I actually know what I’m doing and I’m prepared to make a very large pond for her
Personally, gold fish skeeve me out, like big time. I just find them so super gross. LOL. My son had a couple at one point that were given to him when we moved because we couldn't take his guppy tank with us, but I wasn't sad when they eventually croaked.
