    Awesome work! Walnut and maple is one of my favorite combinations. That Danish oil looks great on there, too.

    • @AdrianPreda
      @AdrianPreda  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Andy! Danish oil is a very easy and forgiving finish to apply. Instead needs a little patience of drying between coats. They say 4-8h, but best is 1-3 days :) And extra careful to wipe off all the excess.

      Also - maple walnut is a great ice cream flavour.

    Those came out beautifully, I especially like the contrast in the style vs the wood choice. I'm desperately waiting on a set of good chisels to come in so I can do more hand work!

    • @AdrianPreda
      @AdrianPreda  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yes the walnut and maple/cherry contrast is nice! The beech dowels are kinda compromise. When no or poor light you can barely distinguish them. The endgrain of the beech when oiled becomes like the walnut. Those are ready bought dowels very cheap from a hobby shop. In future I will try to make myself a dowel maker and do from whatever wood I want.

    • @TheEveryMaker
      @TheEveryMaker 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been thinking about a dowel maker as well. I have found myself doing more with dowels lately and the store bought dowels are never accurate in diameter!

    • @AdrianPreda
      @AdrianPreda  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I know what you mean. Shop dowels are crap, very small then the diameter rated. You can drill the perfect and clean hole for it, but if the dowel is loose will look ugly.

    I really enjoyed your video. There is something peaceful about your work, like watching the Ishitani Furniture videos. I have this mental picture of 10 toolboxes of diminishing size nested inside each other, like those Russian dolls. You open a very large toolbox and there is a smaller one inside.
    Have you considered using a Beall buffing system to make the wood smooth? It would probably not be authentic, but would make them feel great. Works well with Danish oil.

    Wonderful video! Nice work set up! Just a friendly tip if no-one else pointed it out. Flush cutting your pins with the grain (of the walnut in this case) will reduce the marks left by the saw. Thanks again for a nice video!

    • @AdrianPreda
      @AdrianPreda  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! That is a flush cutting saw, has zero set of the teeth on one side, so it will not scratch the pieces. The only way you can scratch is if you bend it below the line towards the handle and will damage the edge, that s why the handle must be raised a bit, and also the blade of this saw is very flexible to allow that

    • @AdrianPreda
      @AdrianPreda  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol Thanks :) They are japanese clamps, called "hatagane". Very adequate for small work where you don't need much pressure, and light weight, not to damage the workpiece.

    Amazing what a soft musical background allied to patience & careful hand work can achieve. To say that this creation is gorgeous is a slight understatement. Beautifully finished with oil to highlight it's grain; a piece of furniture in miniature. What joy it is to look at.. Very well done. Kind regards.

    Amazing work! Would you be so kind as mentioning which Danish Oil you use? I find that depending on the manufacturer the composition can vary widely, and I love the result you are getting.

      Hi, I have used in the last years Rustins and Bormawachs. Both are ok and give similar results, I haven't noticed any difference

    Yet another beautiful piece and amazing video! Thank you!
    But - and I said this last time as well, we need more! The things you make are stunning and the world needs more beauty in it!
    One question, how do you avoid plaining into your little work surface, when you plane on the side?

      Thanks! I try, my video list is huge, but takes a lot of time :) This video was a record instead, managed to work and edit in 16+8 hours :)) But because I've made 11 of this boxes before :) Not sure if I understand, you mean the shooting board or the planing board? The plane will bite a little from it at the beginning, but will eventually stop cause the blade is not all the way of the width of the plane. Then will rest in the side metal portion of the sole

      Adrian Preda - Thanks for answering so quickly. :)
      Yeah, I understand that it takes a lot of time, and I appreciate that you put your heart into it.
      Ah ok, you answered my question perfectly. I've never had the opportunity to do woodwork after I finished school, where we had a woodworking class for a couple of years when I was a kid. But with your setup, I will be able to set up a little workshop in my apartment at some point. :D
      Another question, have you considered maybe do voice overs on your videos instead of text? I think it would give you more reach and it would be a great way to attract more viewers and subscribers. :)

      Thanks! Possible in the future, or when I will move to a proper shop, possible very soon, so I can have space to show stuff etc. Also I have to make some R&D and shopping :) of audio gears, techniques etc Must do it good, otherwise I loose views and peps :))

    Superb, as usual. Couldn't help but notice how a piece of maple was slipping a bit through the jaws of the vise. How do you feel about using a bit of very fine sandpaper double-side-taped to the jaws to prevent slippage under lower squeezing pressure?

    • @AdrianPreda
      @AdrianPreda  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! There was under tightened, filmed that way, and then tightened more and continue chopping :) Was a very small materiel under the vise, like 6mm, didn't want to exceed to much force. Normally in a future big size workbench I want to make is to add thin leather sheets on the jaws, maybe also glued on a magnet sheet and attach whenever needed to the jaws. Also cork can work, but maybe is too soft or compress too much for small pieces.
